I may be born an Inner but the future of mankind is in the Periphery. Although not as wealthy and quote/unquote 'advanced' as the successor states, they also didn't nuke humanity back into the medieval period with their short-sightedness and lust for power. Plus, the Taurian Concordat is the closest thing I have found to a true, functioning democracy anywhere in human colonised space, followed closely by the Aurigan Coalition and followed up by the personal freedoms and liberties granted by the Magistracy's mandate. In short, everyone move to the periphery. The weather's nice and we've got plenty of room... If you don't mind a few pirates knocking about that is...

Wasn't a Periphery state almost solely responsible for one of the largest times humans nuked themselves into the medieval period with their short-sightedness and lust for power?

The Aurigan Reach is very explicitly an aristocratic monarchy. It had a fascistic takeover, which we fought and restored the monarchy in the 2018 Battletech game. The source book that came out later confirmed all of this. There is no significant democratic faction in the Reach. It happens that Queen Kamea gives a shit after witnessing everything that her uncle did, but the power is singularly hers. The Magistracy is more democratic, because they elect their leaders for life rather than assign them by birth.

People call the Periphery many things. A frontier, an opportunity, a backwater, whatever. But for me, it is home.

Source books!!! Love the cover art on this one! The periphery is the only place where there is even the remotest potential for true liberty in the human universe and yet have a viable chance of a meaningful standard of living. Yes vice, piracy and slavery occur here regularly. The inersphere sphere uses the border worlds as proxy war locations, the GDL was fitness on trell I just for such a reason. But there is a chance to live a life of your own if short and often violent. You can, if you are good and lucky, totally escape governmentally shacking controls. There is allot of places out there that may not realize the starleague is gone, or even formed. This is where free people run away to like Americans heading west after the civil war. The fauna is as likely to eat your brains out here or your jump ship decompresses as you are too die to humans. You are also likely to find mothballed jumpships that don't need solar sails and other tech so lost it's not even known in existing records! Once again great job brother keep them coming!!!

    Hello Grim.
The Periphery is a good place to retreat to should your Merc Company run afoul of one of the major players of the Inner Sphere.
I have mentioned before how one of my own Merc Companies was back stabbed by house Liao and what they did about it. Ending up colonizing an unknown system in the deep Periphery with elaborate methods to keep anyone from finding them.
They eventually returned to the Sphere during the later phases of the Clan Wars, and even faced off against Word of Blake units from time to time.
Due to the past history of the Unit, no contracts were Ever signed with House Liao, or Liao affiliated groups. Also, the Unit would actively seek and destroy Any Liao unit or Mech they encountered upon any world that their forces landed upon. In some cases this was seen as a heaven sent boon by the planet's population and resulted in better trade terms with the planet in question and it's populace.
The Star Lions, using data gleaned from a copy of the Helm Memory Core, would usually pick a planet and land. Then take over control of some former Star League facility or Star Port. They would proceed to make improvements to the area under their control, actively seeking out and hiring local citizens to aid in their tasks.
The influx of cash to the local economy, and the massive numbers of jobs available to the citizens, usually resulted in the planetary government forgiving the seizure of assets for a nominal payment to the planetary treasury. In most cases the Star Lions were seen as too powerful to challenge, and yet so beneficial that local groups welcomed the 'invasion'.
The Star Lions would also install items to aid the planetary population... such as new schools, manufacturing plants, water purification, planetary mining, asteroid mining, libraries, community works like parks and recreational facilities, hospitals, and care centers, Power plants, and many other such 'basics' that a planet needs to become more wealthy, secure, and happy.
The fact that this made the planet more viable as a trading partner to the Star Lions was overlooked in most cases, since the locals were far too happy to get access to all the above, and more, to want to argue about giving 'most favored' trading status to the Star Lions.
About the time the Group stopped meeting and running various RPG elements as background for it's weekly battles on the gaming tables, a small group met to project how all the events of the preceding 15+ years of weekly playing would affect the future history of the Sphere.
I am happy to say that only myself and two others worked upon a sufficiently 'grand' scale to end up with our own Minor States status at the conclusion of the meeting over a long dinner engagement. If our game play had been added to the 'official' history of the Battletech universe, there would be a strong multi-star miniature empire between the Magistracy of Canopus and the Aurano Restoration.
Keep on doing videos on the various factions in the universe. All are entertaining, and some even point out facts that had escaped my notice in the decades since I played at the Emperor's Headquarters.
    spoken Frank-ly

They started out as a betrayed Merc Company, well, almost battalion sized unit, reduced to a reinforced Company size. They got their dependents back and raided their former employer to 'balance things a bit', then left the Sphere to hide from assassins and kill teams. Eventually, they built up a hidden colony on a frozen moon of a gas giant in an unlisted and uninhabited system. It took them nearly 50 years to return to the Sphere as the Ghost Lions Mercenary Legion. During that 50 year period, they swept up the 'unwanted' and 'useless'. The defeated, and near destroyed. And built a colony that can stand on it's own for most of it's needs, and it's major 'export' is Mercenaries.
One thing I failed to describe was that the fact that the Lions built their own Battle Armor and field NO 'standard' infantry. Instead, fielding large units of Battle Armor in their place. But even though such units require more technical support than a Mech unit, they feel it is warranted by the kinds of contracts they can take that would be 'over kill' sending a Mech unit to do.

My two favorite factions are Com Star and the Magistracy of Canopus. I like how their societies are so different than the clans and even the inner sphere. With less emphasis on war in the Magistracy and a very progressive outlook on life. Com Star sounds like it would be a nightmare to live in, but neutrality has its perks and its also really cool. "Immunity because everyone needs you" vs "Freedome and a good life but literally everyone else thinks your weird. Also a sexist government."
