    After taking the deep dive into 40k lore,I'm not used to so much of old Earth culture remaining intact in a far future setting.

    • @connorturpin5696
      @connorturpin5696 5 лет назад +13

      True, but this isn't _that_ far into the future. We're only talking about just under 1,000 years to reach the 3025 era from literally today. Yes, technology has regressed due to the Succession Wars, but it's literally 1/40th the time span between our world and WH40K's world. I'd see the weirdness of 40K as being a lot more plausible that far out. Only a thousand years?
      Well, think about how much has - really - changed since AD 1000 as compared to now. Dunno.

    The non-hereditary succession of the Archon isn't right. Robert Marsden was succeeded by his brother Alistair and Katherine Steiner was Alistair's wife, who took over in place of her son by Alistair, who eventually inherited as Alistair Steiner. The original expectation was hereditary Marsden succession but Katherine more or less hijacked it.

    • @GrimDarkNarrator

      They are indeed probably the most "western civilization" likes of all the major factions.

    • @magni5648
      @magni5648 Год назад +1

      They're fighting because they're next to each other. Though funnily enough, the Steiner-Marik border tends to be the quietest border overall between two Successor States historically. You can actually see it in the 3025 map even - it's almost a straight line while every other border in the IS has curves and salients from the constantly changing control over border worlds.
      Marik is most of the time busy with internal bickering or kicking the Capellans, and Steiner towards the end of the 3rd Succession War really isn't into waging offensive wars anymore outside of the odd case of a noble or generla getting a bee in his bonnet.

      @keianna5106 5 лет назад +11

      lyrans are fiancialy well off in general.. 40k is far less dystopian for the rich. But in general battltech problems are less about the hostily of the universe against man, but more about mans hostility in the universe. There is not super powered engine of war that is the imperium with countless numbers. War in the BT universe is told on a more personal level where the exploits of normal ppl can have large effects on thier universe while 40k sheer size limits the effetivness of all but the most powerful religating more people helpless in the legendarium as a whole. keep in mind i enjoy both settings but they aren't really comparable save for some
      concepts.

    • @GrimDarkNarrator
      @GrimDarkNarrator  5 лет назад +8

      Battletech is pretty much our present society in a futuristic landscape. The politics, societies and overall humans are far less over the top than in 40k. It does lend it more realism though, as its mostly about more realistic governments and political factions duking it out across an interstellar arena. The only thing more futuristic/different is the military where everybody and their cats have battlemechs.

    • @juancholo7502
      @juancholo7502 5 лет назад +9

      It kinda depends where & when you are in the Battletech universe. In "3025" aka "3rd-4th Succession War" era, the Periphery regions were Mad Max with Battlemechs. The Innersphere planets had varying levels of tech from 3rd world to a little ahead of current day with a small number of surviving factories with "black box" tech pumping out a slowly decreasing amount of Battlemechs, parts & other high tech wonders of the past. Battlemechs were passed down the family & made you a kind of low nobility.
      The later eras have a much different feel.
      In "3050" aka "Clan Invasion" era, an old Star League memory core was found & suddenly in 10-20 years tech is everywhere & Battlemechs are being manufactured at a high rate. Oh & the missing Star League Defense Force came back & invaded as the space mongols.

    Typical Steiner tactic: Drown enemies in mechs, or throw money at mercs to do the job.
    Also, yes what a wedding present. Starting another war and sticking it to the Capellen's. They probably deserved it.
    There is a lot to learn here, but your videos are a good starting point for this universe. Yes I'm late compared to when you first posted this, but its still appreciated all the same.

    Thanks for the Lore vids. I've loved BT for decades. First learned of it back watching the old virtual world championships with the old BT sim pods. Picked up MW2 PC game. Covers the war between Clans Wolf and Jade Falcon. Had detailed codex in game pulled from the novels that got me hooked on the Lore then I bought up all the BT books by Mike Stackpole and a few others, though never got into the later Mechwarrior books post Word of Blake Jihad.
