Skillet Album
Skillet is the self-titled debut release from the Christian rock band Skillet. Released in 1996 as an enhanced CD and audio cassette from Forefront Records and Ardent Records, it showcases powerful Christian lyrics with a grunge rock sound. Skillet was, at the time, a three-piece band composed of John Cooper on vocals, bass and piano, Trey McClurkin on drums and back-up vocals and Ken Steorts on guitar, back-up vocals and the guitar synth. This song really shows John's skills on the bass
Cannot believe Skillet has been around 20 years, I have had this cd since '96 when I first got into Christian music. Look at all the kids skanking in this video todays kids will never know what that is.
I’m old enough that I shouldn’t know what this is. It’s great.
One thing thats been consistent with Skillet, is their uncompromising love for Jesus!!
The old Skillet is better than the new, this will always be one of my favorite albums!
slingingtrees agreed to me it's their best album
Who would've thought that this singer would now have a badass beard and tattoos and change their sound over the years. Started from the bottom, now they're here.
I gotta be honest, with all these alt Christian bands that were coming out with reconds in the mid-90s I DID NOT think Skillet would be so successful. Good for them!

I'm speechless. John has changed so much in the past 16 years
this is the real skillet
How is this the "real" skillet? They've pretty much changed their sound on every album. Rarely repeating themselves until recently with their last 2-3 albums, about 2009? 2010?, being what one would consider "mainstream" rock. I still think their best album is Comatose. Collide was pretty good too. Not really digging the new stuff as much. I just don't like Jen's voice. Horrible reason but I just can't stand it. Wish they'd let Korey handle the female vocal parts like she used to before Jen joined.
Jason Newkid no doubt bro
I need to continue this 7 year conversation.
Skillet has always been experimental with their signature sound. Gasoline was more classic rock. Hey you, I love your soul is a mis-match between classic rock and hard rock. Invincible was a lot of “electro-industrial rock” as John liked to say it. Alien youth went full in on the “Alien” part, and it sounded like an alien wrote the extra noises. Collide is gritty, hard rock. Comatose is pretty much all piano and violin. Awake is when Jen Ledger joined, and had a lot of guy/girl harmonies on there. Rise was more modern pop/rock with some comatose and awake thrown in there. Unleashed went with triumphant tracks, that get you pumped like “stars” and “Back From the Dead”.
Victorious, I haven’t listened to much. “Back to Life” “save me” and “You Ain’t Ready” are amazing. I’m so excited for Dominion. “Surviving the Game” is one of the best skillet songs I’ve heard out of the past couple records.
All of you Lord and none of me
I like thier versions then and now. Something about the old school though...something...
The old school Skillet from '96
One of my favorites of all there songs
So 90s I love it. Why wasn't this a hit???
Oh wow!!! I can't believe this is one of Skillet's earliest songs and videos.~
I like new and old but nothing beats Skillet from the 90s
soak my heartttt in gasolineeee
I love old and new style for what they are. :)
Nirvana got spiritual
I don't care which of their music it is, I like all of it. I like their old stuff for the lyrics. (you can't beat Saturn at all. Love that song!)
I also like their new stuff, because I'm more into harder rock stuff like that. Collide is an awesome album, and comatose is great too. Just bought and listened to awake yesterday, and that was enjoyable :)
Rock on, Skillet!
I think current Skillet and old Skillet are both pretty good, just saying.
Yeah My 2 Favorite Albums My Them Are Skillet And Rise. Trust me I love New Skillet Jusf as much as Old Skillet But I still think it would be cool to see them do more Stuff like this more Grunge and heavy
My favorite is probably Collide.
My 3 favorite SKILLET album is skillet, alien youth and collide
OMG shaggy haired, brunette John Cooper-and the video was recorded the year I was born!
great song . one of my favorites.
Wow cool I like it
I was up against the stage back when they played at the Oasis Church in Princeton, Indiana back in like 2000-2001 when I was still in high school...Been too long ago to remember considering I'm 37 now. lol...It was awesome because afterwards, we got to meet them in the church lobby and get their autographs...I'm still a huge fan to this very day!!!
I saw them at South County Baptist Church in St. Louis in June 1999. It was the first concert of my own choosing I went to. I was 15. Been a fan since before then. Time has flown by.
I was in middle school in the early 90s. I stole this CD from my church youth groups “music library”. Yeah never gave it back and have followed ever since.
Thank you for re-upload.
Indeed the style changed... and so many seem to love the change...
This is definitely one of my favorite oldies (:
YES!!
The old Skillet
soak my heart in gasoline. light a match and consume me. soak my pride in gasoline. all of you and none of mee
wow. noticed how the drummer was providing vocals? now almost 20 years later... skillet's drummer still providing vocals....
different drummer. Also, plenty of drummers provide backing vocals (but lead vocals is something special.)
Original drummer was Trey McClurkin. Then it was Lori Peters.
I've been listening to this band from the beginning in 1996 found them by accident the searching through CD store and found the CD and out of all their CDs over the years this song is still my all-time favorite don't know why I just
i remember buying this cd in the 90s with the frying pan on the cover because i had seen this video. skillet has always had a place in my musical heart! for me their peak was collide and comatose ! im not saying the new stuff is bad but its just not for me ! but im glad they are still rocking on for sure !!
reminds me a lot of early audio adrenaline.
+Braheem Hazeem Agreed
Well, bands have to start somewhere:D
I love young Doggy😍💘🔥🤘

Soak my heart in gasoline
this is the type of music tht the present day skillet should sing
like this comment if you agree
Slingingtrees, I agree with you
I'm somewhere in this music video. I miss those days at The Chi and 304b. Take me back
704b*
@@metalboy5150 dang, I meant 704b haha N highland.
@@Wayngsta Absolutely right. I knew you knew what you were talking about. I miss those days, myself. Me and a bud went to 704 a few times, first time I'd ever heard of Skillet. "What the heck? Skillet?!" Saw them and thought they were awesome. Bought the album, love it to this day.
The main thing I loved about 704, was that they didn’t judge kids or just being who they were. Like, they had a place where we could go smoke and stuff like that if I remember correctly. They weren’t trying to judge us based on what they thought we should be, they just wanted to get kids in there to hear the message. And I thought that was great then, and I still do now.
@metalboy5150 yeah, it was a different world. I met John, Ken, and Trey often. I went to every show around Memphis. Last time I saw John was when him and Korey went to Malco Stage Cinema to watch a movie. I was working there at the time.
@@Wayngsta That’s cool. That must have been a good while ago…I worked at the Wolfchase Malco in 99-2000. My senior year of high school, lol. Seems like a different life.
So today. John looks like a casual bloke. In this he looks like Jesus.
Cool
I like the music, but what is going on in the video?
If you have to think about the meaning without being able to distinguish it from hearing the song alone... the lyrics are watered down. It isn't always a bad thing, the lyrics just contain more of a subtlety that can be best explained by either symbolism or to keep the lyrics interesting.
Bom D+++++++
nice
The best
Hero
Rebirthing
Monster
Breaking Free
Energy
My obsession
Victorious
Legendary
Anchor
Has anyone else noticed that Ken is wearing American flag shorts?
lol
I agree with you 100%... the sound has become repetitious and predictable as well. Songs from the very first album are what got me into Skillet in the first place.
He stills sound the same
@NewTomorrow777 Look at the upload date, it says August 11, 2010. The user converted it to HD.
Now he sings better and the style changed
I agree @Katerina Mitika new ones are totally better some older ones are good but most suck
i agree with you jason newkid
Jackie Florence-Gormley I made this comment 2 years ago I was on my moms account good to see it’s still here
His voice now certainly does sound like that! Cooper captured the essence of grunge vocals with his own personal touch in this album. With just a touch of a raspy style to accommodate the muddy sound of grunge music, he provided a perfect balance with this album. Now, the vocal sound is overdone to the point where it just sounds terrible, complete with over driven guitars playing repetitive chord progressions.
Take my pride JESUS
He says ALREADY DONE.
i think its got something to do with the bass
creo ahora canta mucho mejor que en esos años
ikr?
@thebrando82 the lyrics are not watered down! they are symbolic! because Skillet doesn't want to sound Christian not because they're ashamed but because non Christians think that if it's Christian music that they can't listen to it so look at the lyrics on google and think about it symbollically, hero talks about how we need Jesus because we are just human, and monster talks about the bad in us and our sin, so before you say they're are watered down try to think of the meaning! thumbs^ if u like
hello
Hello
I don't think HD means what you think it means.
Sounds like Jimmy page riff
What the 😶
+Abby Morehead Yes, Skillet has been around since the mid-nineties.
Why so few views come on people what's wrong with you
remember when skillet was good? What happened
clickity clack Was? LMAO
Skillet still good!
I honestly like their new songs more
It's better...
what with the beard...? *facepalm* oh gosh...
Nyhratak and 3-4 years after this comment was posted, John has grown a big bushy beard and as of 2 years ago has his own line a beard products lol
Gasoline should not be played with
Glad Skillet at least got to their comatose faze because this is kinda trash haha. I'd say everything since Alien Youth is good
awful take there. You're part of the reason why skillet completely went down hill since comatose.
Eww
This song is so bad. I am so glad there new stuff is way better than this.
Just because they have a heavier guitar tone, raspier vocals, more predictable chord progressions, repetitive song structures and better studio quality, they somehow improved?! It isn't even so much of an opinion related matter as it is simply in a musical standpoint... Skillet has declined...
Nathaniel Byers No. They improved only in their passion for Christ and experience.
lmao
Are you serious? His voice has gotten progressively worse. He sounds like he gargled with gravel lol
this sucks the new ones are MUCH better!!!
Everybody whining about the "new" stuff .....
THIS shit sucks too.
This gasoline song is absolutely terrible.
I came here to check out, i did, it blows.
AVOLITE Nobody asked you
