Oh how the English press just feel free to shorten the names of the Japanese skaters and call them however they like. Like with Takahashi they just call him Dai. Now it's just Yuzu. XD I wonder if they were shocked the first time some one addressed them in such a casual manner. It's such a contrast to their home country where they are properly addressed with last name and -senshu.

I think them calling Yuzuru Yuzu might have to do a bit with the fact that Javier always refers to him as Yuzu when speaking about him, the same way that Yuzuru always calls Javier Javi. So interviewers like this must just think they have the okay to call him that since his friends do, though that's not really a proper mindset. But I think they'd also prefer using the abbreviated version of his name to mispronouncing his name, which they do all the time.

It's a nick name, nothing wrong with that. I think Brian also calls him Yuzu for the most part. In Japan, many skaters and fans also address Takahashi as Dai-san

Yuzuru's said his dad also calls him Yuzu.

anamiasismudge Of course close friends and family have the right to call him by his nickname. But if one is a complete stranger or just a colleague like this interviewer here, then one should know better to keep it professional. Even in western culture you don't just casually call someone by their nickname as if you know them like that.

akiheavenly6 that's true, but then again, the english media always acts very casual with whomever they are talking to. it's not just the Japanese (although that's bothered me) but everyone. I'm glad to see that i'm not the only one who felt a bit annoyed by it.

Uh... I was really nervous because of the performance because yesterday I worked first but that's only show program. Croissant( ? ), triple lux for me? But I am really happy today. Um... I didn't think that they would love the performance, I was surprised... That means, everyone was loud for me and I am very happy.

*short program, quad sal, triple lutz
I know they were loud for Javi because of the 6 (min) warm up but I was so surprised everyone was loud for me
      :D

uffff. Must be really weird for him to be called yuzu. Japanese people are quite "strict" and careful about how to call others and they would only use something like "yuzu" being super close friends. Never mind though.

Yuzuru, You made an interview in English. Well done you! However you have a very strong american accent though... Why don't you try Queens English sometimes for me please if you don't mind, honey? It would be more easier to me listening to.
Anyway we talk our love in Japanese in the end. Should be fine.

Erika Sono Erika, I agree with you. As far as Yuzuru in Toronto, he has to listen to American accent. Yuzuru! Come with me!

Ach, was meinen Sie denn!

    • @cocococotube
      @cocococotube 9 лет назад

Erika Sono I am very used to "Queens English" now. And also I prefer it personally. Yuzuru's second career? That is very interesting, isn't it? I hope Yuzuru and I can marry in the future and work together for Japan. That is one option though. I will ask him anyway.

Wollen Sie Yuzuru heiraten?!
