      Hi, thanks for reaching out to me. You should teach syllables to children when they are done with simple word reading. Mostly we start giving syllables to kids in grade 1. Start with the oral practice and then go for some worksheets. You will find some of the syllables worksheets on my website too.
      Start with words that can be broken into two parts from the middle then proceed forward according to the age and pace of children.
      For a complete guide, please watch my videos on syllabication. Below are the links to the videos.

      By reading it both ways and going with the correct pronunciation:
      cu/pid or cup/id?
      If the word is new to them, the teacher will help with pronunciation, or they may need to search the dictionary.

    Ma’am what about tt in cotton, why do we split them?

    • @HomeschoolingwithHira
      @HomeschoolingwithHira  2 года назад

      Good question! This is an English spelling rule that if there is only 1 consonant between two vowels, we double the consonant while writing the spelling. So now when we divide the word into syllables we break it in a way that every vowel gets one consonant. But when we say the word we don't stress the word like, cot+ ton, rather we say it simply, cot+un.
      Hope it will help. If still have any confusion, I'll be glad to rephrase my words to make them more simple.

    • @chethanayadav928
      @chethanayadav928 2 года назад

      @@HomeschoolingwithHira Thank you for the detailed explanation ma'am. i got the doubt because in "filling - fill ing" it is mentioned not to split the letters that make same sound, but for cotton it is "cot ton" why not "cott on"

      @HomeschoolingwithHira  2 года назад

      In fill+ing, double 'll' is the part of the root word and 'ing' is a suffix. We cannot break the root word in syllabication. Like, if the word is FARMER, it cannot be FAR/MER. It would be FARM/ER.

    hi teacher,i cant divide the word '' chaotic'' into syllables. please help me

    • @HomeschoolingwithHira
      @HomeschoolingwithHira  2 года назад

      Hi, thanks for reaching out to me.
      Chaotic = /kay-ot-ik/
      The letter "a" in chaotic is at the open syllable position that's why it's saying its name. The other syllables are closed.

    • @huonghuong-et1fk
      @huonghuong-et1fk 2 года назад

      @@HomeschoolingwithHira thank you so much , but I wonder there is no consonant between a and o ,so how come you divide key-ot. and why you know ''ch'' say ''k'' sound.

    • @HomeschoolingwithHira
      @HomeschoolingwithHira  2 года назад +1

      ch has 3 sounds. It says /k/ in words of Greek origin, /sh/ in words of French origin and /ch/ in pure English words.
      The word "chaotic" seems to have a Greek origin that's why ch is saying /k/.
      Secondly, we cannot divide the vowel teams only if they are working as a single sound. In "chaotic", a and o are not a team. They are parts of two different syllables. Moreover, "oa" is a right vowel team as in the word boat, but AO doesn't even exist as a vowel team. So, it's not possible that in chaotic A and O are together.
      Hope you got the point.

      Tel-e-vi-sion, vic-to-ry, fam-i-ly
      In multisyllabic words, we have the schwa sound of vowels which makes it a little complicated to break the words at the right place. But with practice, children learn this skill.

      I watched both of my videos to understand what was confusing you, but there isn't anything contradicting in either video. Only the wording is changed.
      In the other video, I said, 'mark the vowels first, and see if you have two consonants between them, break the word.'
      In this video, I didn't mention the vowel, but you can see that we are breaking between two consonants and next to each consonant is a vowel.
      What's the problem?

    They write the word 'city' is /ˈsɪt̬·i/, but i hear many native American speakers say /ˈsɪ.t̬i/
    /ˈmen.ju/ and /ˈme.nju/, which is correct? Is there any different when speaking these two syllable types.

      Hi there,
      The English language has many dialects. The pronunciation that is written in the Cambridge dictionary is the standard English pronunciation of words but natives of different areas do speak those words differently. If you are a non-native speaker, it's better to use the standard pronunciation of words.
      Hope this helps.
