    WD-40 isn't a good lubricant. Use silicone, safe on rubber seals.

      You beat me to it. Wd evaporates you'll be doing it every year. Silicone every time. have yet to go back to one I freed up. Will agree don't pull the pin unless you want a In door fountain

    Oil based products will eventually eat through the rubber seal in the valve causing it to leak out from the pin

    • @FixitwithFowler
      @FixitwithFowler  9 месяцев назад +1

      It can't reach the rubber seat of the valve. It was only to lubricate the pin to prevent it sticking!

    • @101blueflame101
      @101blueflame101 9 месяцев назад +6

      @@FixitwithFowler I don’t mean the seat of the valve. The pin goes through a rubber o ring. The o ring stops the water from leaking at the pin. Non oil based products are safer where rubber or plastics are involved

      I made that mistake with a diverter valve. In the end the rubber swelled so much it stuck and then broke the motor gearbox. Silicone is what I use now lol

    A good tip I found, rather than push or pull the pin, give it slight twist left and right and watch that bad boy spring back up

    That would probably work ... except that in our bathroom the spring had broken ... so the solution was the pull the pin out and replace the trv with a screw down cap ... not screwed down. I have now replaced the trv when replacing three other radiators.

    • @FixitwithFowler
      @FixitwithFowler  8 месяцев назад

      It works for most radiators. However, sometimes, i suppose the only answer is to replace the TRV. I do have more plumbing videos on my channel that may help!

    Sorry voor deze opmerking 😊 maar een thermostaat kraan mag niet boven de warmte bron zitten, hij moet haaks naar rechts voor de beste werking 😅.....
    Voor de rest, volgens mij weet iedereen wel hoe hij iets moet smeren...

    • @leexgx
      @leexgx 6 месяцев назад +1

      They are all wrong unfortunately but it's how most are installed because they don't understand that the radiator going to heat up the trv so house owner more likely just to set them 5 (witch is 25c or higher if let's you go past 5, 3 is 21c) and leave them on all the time
      but surprisingly most do work vertically (ones like this one usually do work due to the vents at the top seems to be enough to get enough room temperature to work correctly)
      most smart thermostats don't work correctly when vertical because the digital temperature sensor is inside at the top the smart trv and no vents so they get heated up by the rad and causes them to turn off and on (my aqara trvs allow use of a remote sensor that I have installed in each room)
      at some point I rotate them all horizontal so they don't need to room sensors
      Also don't use wd40 as others have posted it will eat the rubber rings eventually (silicone only)
