    One of the greatest bands of any era, and this is my favourite song by them from an original Magazine fan from the 1970's.
    Great to see a young person appreciating them.

    Thank you for taking me back in time in such a beautiful way. One of the great bass lines of all time. My son has a copy of Kafka's masterpiece and I played the song for him. Then I found you. Such awesome picking and playing - you really got it. I met Barry Adamson once, briefly in Melbourne, 1981 or so. I'm gonna learn this song now.

      @@lucyplaysbass6898 I was terrified of playing by ear and in fact I did a recording the other day where I mistakenly played a major 2nd where I should have used a minor 2nd... but I practice at it every day thanks to you mentioning playing by ear before. I do look up the chords which helps, and to be honest anything where there are 16th notes can be impossible for me. Just saying - I appreciate your videos as I can learn the pieces that I could not possibly pick up on my own at this time! :)

      @@blaineca I remember the first time I tried playing by ear, it was very intimidating! I have minimal knowledge on theory which I need to work on haha but with lots of ear training I can pick up most songs very quickly. I'm glad that my videos can help you pick up songs! I may have mentioned before but if there are any songs in a similar vein to what I've been posting I'll be happy to check em out :)

      @@lucyplaysbass6898 Can I offer a kind word of advice? You say you are working on your theory which is always a good thing but please don't stop playing by ear and instinct and let theory take over. There is always a place for instinct and natural ability in music and you clearly have lots of both. Try to find a balance between theory and just feeling the music.

    • @MrNefryl
      @MrNefryl 2 года назад +2

      @@lucyplaysbass6898 Sure, but I'm certainly no Barry Adamson! Here's what I think:
      1. If you have the possibility, use flanger instead of chorus. And get a bit "fatter" tone
      2. Try playing it with your fingers instead of a pick (I think Barry did it with his thumb, at least during some live gigs)
      3. "Loosen up", I know recording cover video is stressful
      You might check a cover I made a long time ago - it's far from being perfect and has horrible sound quality, but it might suggest you what I mean (except point 3).
