    Hi from Texas. I Ride a 2006 R1200GS and Love it. I have never had a problem and have 42,000 Miles on it. It still Runs and Drives like new. They are so easy to work on, that I do all my own Maintenance. It still looks almost Brand New also. I have been Riding Motorcycles for 50 years now. I owned everything from Kawasaki to Hondas, Suzukis, and Harleys and Yamahas. The GS is the Best Bike I have ever had. I have 8 Fusions in my Neck and lower Back. The GS is the only one I can Ride and not hurt. It will probably be my last Bike, so I’m really happy the GS is it. Thanks for the Video, New Subscriber.😁👍👍

    I have made my license just this week and did a test drive of a 1200 GS just yesterday. I'm 36 years, so quite young, but it was always my dream of owning a GS, and i have to say, i was hooked by the motor sound, and the fact that such a behemoth when standing still is so easy and elegant to ride when in motion. 2007 GS 1200 70K trouble free miles.
    40 year MX racer, thought these bikes were for the Starbucks crowd.
    Boy was I wrong.
    Unparalleled as a long distance touring bike, incredibly capable off- road with proper tires , skills, and discretion.
    Also, due to current used bike market, one of the best bargains for serious riders.
    No silly electronics ( ABS only. ABS is mandatory on this type of machine).
    Tons of torque. Smooth , refined , and sophisticated.
    The chassis is a dynamic masterpiece of stability and handling, especially in gnarly conditions.
    Front end vague off- road and low end lean bog makes it clunky at slow speeds in difficult terrain.
    But ADV is always about compromise.

In Germany K25 = 9000 Eur below 50k, K50 11.000€ for around 20K and 16.000€ for the 1250. And... buy the bike with full luggage = value 750 €. Just that: two overhead camshafts (not crankshafts) since 2010 bringing power from 105 to 110hp. Important is the potential abs brake issue until 2007. Normally from 2008 it should be a machine without brakeenhancer.

      @@DODinsaneCHANNELI guess people want the last edition 2010-2012. Not sure about the brake issue being resolved. The more you drive, the less issues. If you have the 2008 without brake enhancer and you are happy...not to worry. Enjoy the ride!!

    • @dzikibonk
      @dzikibonk 2 дня назад +2

      Yep! It's just two camshafts instead one, and few details in MCU-algorithms and timings times, that makes your ride on twincam a bit smoother in oposite to previous version. If you sell your old one and buy a twincam, you won't notice it. But if you have two bikes at the same time, you'll feel it only after a few times of switching from one to the other. Other thing is exhaust throttle after 2010, that may be connected with environmental restrictions. BMW claims it is just for better sound. In my opinion twincam is much lauder that previous.
      Second matter is the service. It became complicated in twincam - to adjust the valve clearances you are required to buy new hemispheres, so you are addicted to the new parts. For this reason, mechanics demand more money because the vehicle takes up space while waiting for new parts. In the previous version it was enough to adjust it with the screws. Maybe there is a magic-fellow who can reduce hemispheres height, but I don't know any.
      Both versions are great and the time of trouble-free use will depend solely on the condition in which you buy the bike.
      The ABS was changed in 2008, so it's doesn't matter. If your bike was made after September 2007, there is no issue with ABS brakes.

    Thanks for sharing tis video. Nice shots. I agree with most of wht you say but I just couldn't get along with the JERKY throttle response at slow speeds: recent models have vastly improved this and I know lots of riders get past that jerky response but having to pull in the clutch (ever so slightly) every time I wanted to put back some throttle out of a curve or a round about is not for me. I sold it with a lot of sadness because apart from that, it was THE best ike I've ever had......

      @secondhandbiker  9 месяцев назад +1

      Yes this is normal this is the modulator.. Good maintenance, regular use, the more you drive, the better. Here from Wikipedia: From 2004, the BMW R 1200 GS was available with the optional extra Integral ABS from FTE automotive with brake booster (BKV). Design weaknesses led to a change of model and manufacturer.[4] From mid-August 2006, the BMW R 1200 GS was available with the optional extra Integral ABS from Continental Teves. As problems also became apparent with this ABS brake system, BMW initiated a recall in April 2008, officially described as a "technical conversion campaign", in which the brake lines on the ABS pressure modulator were to be replaced.[5] On May 5, 2010, the Federal Motor Transport Authority published information under the KBA reference number 2895 that this campaign would have to be repeated "with identical circumstances" from model year 2006-2009.[6]

While I am at it, the fuel pump issues still not fixed after all the years, high pressure leak, not dangerous they said...and cigarettes do not cause cancer too???? @@secondhandbiker Thx a lot, love the looks of the (normal, non Adventure sport) AT 1100. Maybe give it a try indeed. Unfortunately no room for two bikes. The 1250 ticks all the boxes, but as I mentioned I don't like the BMW community over here (dentists driving from Starbucks to Starbucks in their Rukka suits) and the dealers only have eye for you when your bike is less then two years old (or when you drive a police RT).

      Sorry to hear, ABS can be an issue until 2009 models. Gearbox is a major issue. Keep the faith!! 👍✌️
