An interesting side effect of the fight against self abuse is that, if you maintain sobriety for a couple months, you tend to go through an angry phase, because most likely the self abuse is covering up deeper issues you don't know how to deal with. Some of these guys may be achieving a bit of victory over self abuse, but then channel the resulting anger into "saving the church", or "saving America tm" because they don't know how to give the pain and anger they now feel over to Christ.
Thank you Fr. Turbo for speaking truths people need to hear. No, we don't need to concern ourselves with culture war stuff, making it our focus. I was guilty of consuming alot of YT content in this. No, we don't need to look at Christ and Orthodoxy as a philosophy. So true! Like Andrew said, we should be focusing on our Phronema... the correct Phronema. What you said about priests needing to worry more about shepherding our souls for the Judgement vs. Grass fed beef...wow. All of these things within the culture war and politics... I became more and more disenchanted and disconnected with it and there was always the understanding that I needed to focus on my soul and relationship to God and repentance. I let it distract me from what matters. We all need to hear this. More than ever. Thank you, gentlemen, for this episode. So many great nuggets of conversation and things I will be thinking about for a while to come. God bless you all!!
We saw tanks doing weird stuff along our highways in 2020. I was saying, "here come the gulags. Next Fema will arrive with their guillotine." Glad I was wrong.
21:10 The priest in our local parish had just been ordained in 2019 not long before things took a bad turn with the lockdowns and church closures. In the thick of it all, there were people who left the church because the Bishop and by extension our priest did too much i.e masking, social distancing etc. Then there were people who left because he didn’t do enough. I can only imagine how difficult it was to be a local parish priest during that time.
Fr. Turbo being an “old man” was what this teenage adult needed to hear. This really helped me out. All glory to Jesus Christ! I am going to think twice about calling God my Father until I truly start treating Jesus as Lord, and though I have only looked at it in brief, seeing St. Metropolitan Philaret’s stance on Ecumenism… it is something we cannot tolerate-in that Ecumenism is the mother of all heresies. And truly, bridges are only as useful as much as they get you from one place to another. Keep it up fellas! God bless!
Let's build the bridge. And talk about the bridge. Invite people to the bridge. Just keep talking about the bridge. Fr. Turbo, that concept has bugged me the last few years and you nailed it.
I admit I am definitely the guy Fr Turbo is describing when he talks about the person saying "nuh uh, I don't want to be crucified". It's hard to accept death willingly.
Some of the most kindhearted and hospitable people I ever met were some western right orthodox monks at a hermitage in Colorado. Very good people overall.
51:48 This happened to me. I was out of God’s grace of the Orthodox Church for the last 20 years and out of belief in God entirely for the last 10 years. I asked God to help my unbelief a few months ago, and He has! I had never believed and wanted to be with God like I do now. Being without Him and now with Him is the lesson I needed. Thank you, Lord.
1:28:00 - what books are recommended for the 'little church" at home? Would love to read what you recommend here, Cyprian -- been my focus all year and I certainly have so, so much room to grow.
I came through the peterson-pageau pipeline like 2 years ago I think. But I quickly dropped both peterson and pageau once I came to the church. I think it's a bridge, but you have to cross it and not stay on it.

1:17:41 I haven’t finished yet and I’m outing myself by saying so, but JBP showed up on kill tony recently in that blasphemous coat bearing the Theotokos. It was surreal. And it got worse as the show went on. As the “highlight” 🤮 of the show, the other guest (jordan was one of two), a “comedian,” put on the jacket and a hat to do an impression of jbp, but chose to impersonate him with the most unnecessarily vulgar premises that even from a secularist comedic perspective were completely unfunny, boorish, and banal. The most charitable thing you could say is that he wore it as one might wear a cross into a spiritually or physically dangerous situation, and I’m absolutely nobody to judge, but it came across more as a humiliation ritual directed toward the Theotokos more than it did as a Fool for Christ type of action. If we’re not judging as an antichrist, but merely inspecting fruit, that fruit appears to be truly-and I had to thesaurus a word worse than rotten for this-truly mephitic. God forgive me.
The worst part is that Jordan gave up the jacket to the other comedian, and it was obviously something pre planned. Doesn't help that this was so close to the feast of the dormition.

We need the spirituality of the humble mason who's building a Cathedral brick by brick, who sees the Empire for what it defends: the Church he's helping build with sweat and blood and tears. When our prayers are true we will have that spirituality and the obnoxious pagan worship of power masquerading as Orthodoxy will fade. We will see power is necessary, but it's not for its own sake. But in our despair we hold on to the world when we should ask God for mercy and repent.

As someone interested in the Western Rite, I want to hear both sides of the argument. Father forgive me, but there have been saints who supported the WR. St John Maximovitch, St Raphael of Brooklyn, and St Tikhon of Zadonsk for example. There is a picture of St John celebrating the WR Liturgy. I understand what you mean by wanting your own flavor of Orthodoxy because of shallow externals but would you say the WR is no good period?
I wouldn’t say that…in fact the blessing of St. John etc is the saving grace in my mind, but I have a good friend who is a former western rite priest (now eastern rite) and he shared with me his humble thoughts, that essentially St. John etc didn’t for see how far twisted the current west was and heading to….its like old skins new wine but inverted..…its an interesting thought…
