    Hey, got a 2017 Imac Pro, and planning to get a samsung CRG9, i'm pretty sure it supports 5120x1440p, this should work, even on Mojave right ?

    • @jrichard
      @jrichard  Год назад

      Your iMac can support the resolution so that’s good. When I had the Mojave OS, I couldn’t get my Mac to display 5120 x 1440 on the monitor. I probably read every forum about the issue but when I did an OS update to Big Sur that did the trick and it finally worked! So if you want to get that resolution scale you may have to do an OS update.

    I have the Samsung Odysee G9 Neo Ultrawide running from a MacBook Pro 13" M1 through the CalDigit TS4. I want to split the screen but the MacBook won't allow this. I've heard that the Dell D6000 will allow the split on separate monitors but not heard about any Ultrawide splits. Have you had any experience of this? I have really expensive cables but my MacBook won't even show 5129 x 1440. The highest resolution is 2560 x 1440 at either 60 or 120 Hz. Would be really grateful for your thoughts on this 🙏

      If you are running Big Sur on your MBA and you have a Hi-Res USB-C to DP1.4 cable (see description for recommendations) then you should be able to achieve the full 5120 x 1440 resolution. I heard there were issues getting this output with the new OS Monterey. Hope this helps.

    Thank you Jahmal! I've got an 8K DisplayPort-Thunderbolt cable coming for my 2019 16" MacBook Pro via Amazon Prime overnight. It's a work-issued machine, but since I work from home 4 days a week, and only one in the office, I wanted a nice monitor (our in-office monitors are curved Dell 38-inchers). I also have a Windows gaming desktop that had no issue connecting @ 5120x1440. However, the gear I had for the MacBook was all HDMI and the best I can get is 3840x1080 and everything is really big. Even when I go into display prefs, and select Scaled, I only get to change from Larger Text to More Space; I cannot select a specific resolution. I'm looking forward to hooking up proper 8K gear and getting to 5120!

      I have a usb-c to DisplayPort cable and when the laptop is closed ( clamshell mode) the monitor displays perfectly. Your setup with the adapter should work as well, if the resolution isn’t the best, I recommend getting a straight USB-C to DP 1.4 cable one that pushes up to 8k resolution. Hope this helps.

    Hi Jamal, what kind of work do you do on your system and how did you choose your graphics card because ultimately screen resolution size is determined by the graphics card and the workload? I’m into film and VFX editing, so I need a good solid graphics card and which means having to switch my Nvidia GTX770, because it doesn’t support that screen resolution which means downgrading the graphics card down to an AMD newer nvidia card, or an Intel like yours, so you had to have made a compromise somewhere?

    • @jrichard
      @jrichard  2 года назад +1

      Hi Shaz I currently have MacBook Pro i5/16GB with Intel Iris Plus Graphics 645 1536 MB nothing fancy. The only compromise I had to really make was keeping the machine on the Big Sur OS to keep the 5120x1440 resolution, newer OS versions seem to have a dispaly driver issue which makes the text looks blurry or not scale to the full resolution other than that everything is working fine.

    • @jrichard
      @jrichard  2 года назад +1

      The cables such as HDMI and DisplayPort that comes with monitor works fine for windows. If your pc can output 5120 x 1440 then it will work perfectly. On Mac machines, the HDMI port on it won’t be able to push that resolution. Regular USB to DP/HDMI didn’t really achieve any difference either. I had to purchase an 8k USB-C to DP to push 5120 x 1440 resolution (which is crisp via Big Sur ) on the Mac. I was highly disappointed when it didn’t work right out the box but I had to do tons of research to see what others had to say about the issue and this was one of the ways to get around it for now. Hope this helped.

      @@jrichard hey man, could you clarify this for me? I have a USB C to DP cable, currently plugged in from a 16in MacBook Pro (2019) to the same Samsung 49in and the text looks fuzzy, pixelated and horrible at 5120x1440. Like a really noticeable step down from a MacBook display, or even my old LG 27in 4K display I've always used. Can you confirm how good/sharp your text looks? Is it comparable to the MacBook display at all? Thanks!

    can you you run at full resolution and still make things bigger ?

    • @jrichard
      @jrichard  3 года назад

      From what I've saw...If you choose 'Default for display oppose to 'Scaled' in the Displays > Resolution Option, it keeps the 5120 x 1440 resolution but it looks really zoomed in...picture still sharp but very it's very scaled in (like 3-4 times). Hope this helped.

    Can you run two of these monitors at the same time with this setup?

    • @jrichard
      @jrichard  3 года назад +1

      Hey Bryan, based on most Mac technical specs, you can only support one external monitor at 5120 x 1440. The new M1 Mac mini for example can support 6K on one monitor via Thunderbolt 3 and another at 4096 x 2160 via HDMI.Hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions.

    Can I get 240 Hz at 5120x1440, or only 120 Hz? (on g9 that supports 240Hz)

      Good question but unfortunately Apple states that they only supports 60Hz at that resolution :(

      I use "SwitchResX" application to support my AGON AOC 49 inch ultrawide at 5120 X 1440 @ 120Hz. I am running Catalina but it works fine on the previous MacOS as well.

      Oh man I know what that's like. Ok so without knowing your setup, here is what i recommend:
      1 Make sure you are on the latest version of Big Sur 11.2.3 (that's what i'm using currently)
      2) Make sure you are using one of the thunderbolt/usb-c to DisplayPort cable that was recommend in the description. Be sure to plug it directly in the laptop no adapters.
      3) If you are using the Samsung CRG9 Monitor be sure to go into the menu options > System > Display Ver > Choose 1.4 version
      I hope these tips help you out. If not please feel free to share your setup so I provide better insights.

      @jrichard  2 года назад

      I also have a 16 inch i7 32 ram MacBook Pro and that gets hot as well when outputting that high resolution.... I guess the processor and gpu work harder when outputting that resolution, HDMI is going to use less pixels so your machine doesn't have to stress too much which is one reason it doesn't get too hot.
