  • Juvenile Beluga whales spotted near Ingonish Nova Scotia
Belugas, which are among the smallest species of whale, are mostly found in the Arctic Ocean. They like cold water so it is very uncommon to see them in Nova Scotia as it’s well outside of what’s considered to be their normal range.
Beluga whales are a protected species. Boats are not to approach them. Beluga whales are very intelligent and curious animals. Sitting near them, they will eventually become comfortable and approach with curiosity. Touching them is prohibited.
In this video, you can see a tour boat almost run them down. The guests on the boat could clearly see the whales and even move to the other side of the boat to see them when the boat passes over. While flying overhead with a drone, it looked like a horrible collision occurred however they seemed fine. They may not be so lucky next time. Hope people can not be so reckless and respect their space.
