I have learned the the basics of dendrochronology, but at what cost... I had a math test to study for 😭😭😭

LOL! If you failed to study for a math test because of this 10-1/2 minute video, I'll go out on a limb (see what I did there?) and say you probably have other issues to work out in math.

Great stuff, Professor Dave. My grandfather always said to treat trees with reverence; they almost always have a story to tell as long as you're willing to listen.

It must be true. The famous British comedian and part of the trinity of great jokers - The Goons. Used the song I talked to the trees by Robert Goulet. However, Milligan changed it to "I talk to the trees, that's why they put me away."

The look on the face of the guy at 7:39
“Dave, what are you doing out in the forest?”
    “I am dating trees!”
    “Uh huh...”

Very interesting. The idea of trees keeping a record of past events is so amazing. They’re like living books filled to the brim of history. The idea of how environmental conditions can effect the grown rate of trees is amazing.
Was wondering how far back dendrochronologist could date trees using these methods. Is there any limit on how old or far back they could date trees using these methods?
Can’t wait for the next video!

Finally got a chance to watch part 2....great work Dave. One point about autocorrelation and standardization or proper autocorrelation. Unfortunately, sometimes you will investigate a stand a of trees that will not hold up to standardization. Happened to me in the Blow Me Down Mountains of western Newfoundland. The eastern white pine unfortunately did not adhere to the last two concepts, as the environmental factors in the area (serpentine rock strata, katabatic winds and major forest fires) would not allow a proper explanation of the extant EWP trees in the area. However, coring those beauties and experiencing the Blow Me Downs was well worth the effort! I would like to say that most of the time, those two key points work well enough, but sometimes you will encounter an elusive forest ;).

The intro is intended for a learning audience, a vast majority of his learning audience is younger.
This is because older people should be mature enough when in a learning environment to simply ignore intros, intros are intended to grab the attention of new viewers, not for people who look for information in specific, or viewers whom are already common viewers.
