hey dude, is power supply enough to provide necessary power at higher oc situations? (such as +135ish) also which drivers are you using, is it possible to overclock gpu on new drivers such as 355-360? asking as a potational buyer, would be nice if you answer.
+Selami Akdogan Heya, stock vbios allows you to OC the GPU by +135Mhz on Core max, no matter which drivers you have. Only one specific older driver blocked overclocking completely, but newer drivers are fine. I am using 359.06 at the moment, and +72/+150Mhz OC on daily basis, +135Mhz/+250Mhz profile rarely, when the game needs it. Power supply will be enough to max out the overclocking with default vbios (+135Mhz/+500Mhz) without any issues. I have talked with people who are overclocking up to 1400 - 1450Mhz on core with custom vbios and they told that the stock power supply is enough even for that but I am not quite sure about that, however I haven't flash custom vbios myself yet, so I don't know.
+No1BoXiS thanks dude, much appreciated for answer, i guess in a laptop thermal room there won't be need for an oc such as 1400ish numbers, 980m is already powerful enough, and with %10-15 extra juice from oc it's gona last long imo
Any tips for me.. I have same laptop and I have LAG in novigrad. It feels like CPu is bottleneck for me.. Its only like 10% used when idle. and when I play witcher 3 it's going to 90 and 100%...
Hello my friend, i have a Asus G751JY aswell and im ... kind of a noob with Gaming Notebooks/PCs so i wanted to ask you, how i can overclock my Intel i7 4720HQ processor if there is any way on this Notebook. And if it is possible to enter the RoG UEFI BIOS on the notebook to change more settings.
+Rivayne Heya. Overclocking settings are locked in Bios so it is not possible from there. However, you can download Intel XTU program and raise the multiplier when 1-4 cores are active by 100-200Mhz (depends on how much you can raise the bar, I can set +200Mhz on my cpu but yours may vary). As for GPU you can easily overclock it in MSI Afterburner program. Just move 2 sliders there (GPU Clock/GPU memory clock). Cheers.
Hello, what are your temps with vsync on? also what grapich settnings are you using. I have the same laptop, ive overclocked the same as you, my gpu is at 70-80c and cpu 85-95. how about you :)
+kickidii Heya, it depends on the game and GPU/CPU utilization really. In Witcher 3 I am mostly at 76-79°C on GPU and 75-90°C on CPU depending on location ingame, though if I am walking in Novigrad for a hour or so then it can go to 93-95°C. It's okay as long as it doesn't reach 100°C. However, will try to apply for this G-Sync upgrade program which is running now. They should change motherboard so will see, if I get cooler CPU or no.
+BoXiS I also have a G751JY and read that re-pasting it for many users decreased CPU/GPU up to -20°C in some cases... CPU in particular on this laptop is VERY BADLY pasted.
+Luca L I have sent it for repaste as well but seen no improvements. Anyway, going to send the laptop in again tomorrow but for upgrading the motherboard for G-Sync one, so they will repaste the new one again. I hope I will get CPU with better temps this time :)
Does overclocking make the laptop loud? I have the same laptop and I can tell you that at the moment even when playing graphics-intensive games like 'Ryse', the sound is almost the same as normal.
+Kiano Uy (Moop Stark) It does not make it any louder. The fan speed depends on your CPU/GPU actual temp. Overclocking GPU will increase its temp by like 2-3°C but that will not make a difference in the speed of GPU fan. You can check your how loud your laptop can be by using prime95 small fft stress test combined with furmark, but it's not needed. Regards.
Huseyn Mammedov Hey. I believe you can overclock the CPU by 100mhz using Intel XTU program, however I don't think it's needed. Overclocking your Gpu provides you with more performance boost.
+Giovanni Betti Hello. There is more ways to do so, but the easiest one is probably just downloading a program called MSI Afterburner. After you open it you should be able to see few options like - Core Voltage, Power Limit, Core Clock, Memory Clock and Fan Speed. With stock vbios you will be able to move just two of the sliders - Core Clock/Memory Clock. Adjust these two settings as you prefer (I am using +74 Core clock +150 Memory Clock on daily basis, maximum which you can get with stock vbios is +135 on Core and around +450/500 on memory, you can use these settings, if your temps are good). After adjusting the slider click on apply and you are good to go. Be sure that you have checked "Apply overclocking at system startup" and you don't need to open the program anymore, just if you want to adjust the overlock. You can also make more profiles with different clocks and save them as profile 1-5. Then, if you click on the particular profile it will auto-load the overclock for you, but this is not needed. Regards
Heya, you can see the settings at the start of the video. Even though they are in czech language you can see where the bar is placed. Anyway, my current settings from the game are written in the description of ruclips.net/video/JTYWeNzLv6g/видео.html this video. Cheers
na koni jak do školy :D

Do it yourself and temps will fall down -10°C ;) I have to upgrade to g-sync as well in Italy
+BoXiS did you get The g sync? upgraded The motherboard last week, temps didnt change but its so much smoother

Awesome!!! I'll try. Cheers
i have same laptop -.-" with not so good CPU 4710hq -.-"
+Patrick serious Your CPU is good as well and reaching lower temps on top of that. So enjoy it ! :)
+BoXiS okay thx
What preset do you have the game on?

better than a 1060?
Nope, 1060 is a bit faster.
You need custom vbios 980m to beat or match 1060
