I suspect I am not alone in worrying about the many aspects of our society that have begun to break down. I take great comfort in the belief that Tom's aesthetic, work ethic, focus on re-use and restoration, etc. will all become much more widely appreciated in the years to come. Not only his many projects but his encyclopedic knowledge will be with us for generations. What an immense treasure.
Absolutely. Maybe someday future humans can look at Tom's films and see what a truly honest man looks like. Compared with the politically bombastic " leaders " oftodayx, Tom is a beacon to see 😮😮
Hey Thomas, I was just going to watch a movie on Netflix (it's about 10 pm) and saw your new episode so I decided to watch. Much more entertaining than a Netflix movie.
Thanks Ella, for keeping an eye on our Tom! And thanks Tom, for that ‘tools I used’ shot at the end. Nice addition.👍 (Of course, wonderful job as usual.)
Lars was obviously a talented recreational wood-worker. Judging from his life dates and its style, I'd guess that this piece is from the Art Deco period of the 1920s/30s. I can imagine him rummaging through his lumber scraps for these many colours and grains of wood; especially in the tabletop. I'm sure that, if you and he were from the same times, you'd have enjoyed each others' company. Your video proves that a wood-worker can never have too many clamps! Congratulations on this restoration. Happy New Year to all the followers of Thomas Johnson Antiques Furniture Restoration.
In a world gone absotootly mad, I find great comfort and assurance with your videos. Your practiced calm demeanor and the "let's see if this works..." attitude are consistent and productive! Your skills and patience are pretty good, too--but you have to know that old black dog just steals the whole show! Thank you for your great contribution to my sanity.
Lovely to see a new video for the new year! And I'm wondering how many viewers guess the enormous amount of work going into producing this type of video. We've grown up with movies, tv etc., and forget that these projects generally take a lot of money and many people to produce. Most RUclipsrs have themselves and a couple of helpers if they're lucky. Not to mention the stress of deciding when and how much to post and deciding which has priority. We're so blessed to have such masters leaving us an incomparable history of fine craft work. Thank you Thomas, and your helpers, especially the doggie ones!
You're welcome Kay! And thanks - you are correct - it's a job making these videos, and a group effort. I say group, it's just me and my editor/channel manager
You can find thousands of videos on U Tube. But these take the biscuit. (That's an English term, Thomas. Like Marmite. Sorry, I mention Marmite too often.)
What an amazing little table. So much love, talent and work went into making that. You have brought it back to life for the next 100 years. Your supervisor clearly approves 😊
You can rest assured Lars is smiling down happy with the care and attention to detail you gave this piece. You can tell Lars made this with love. It is just stunning and a wonderful family heirloom the family can be very proud of. Emma is such a great supervisor!
The original glue looks like it might have been one of the casein glues popular in the 1940's, such as Weldwood and Caseinite. Very nice work on your part!
@@petergregory5286 Then there was Aerolite, a two-part glue that was embraced by homebuilt aircraft builders, especially in the UK, maybe it's still available…
These tables are gorgeous and well worth the restoration. I absolutely agree with your philosophy on rescuing and restoring antiques. Keep up the good work
Imagine how astonished the maker of this lovely table would be if he could see this film and realise that his work was being admired by viewers all over the world.
What a lovely piece, amazing colours to be brought out. Speaking of colour once again I'm entranced by your colour matching. You really did justice to its creator... and so did dear pup posing next to it. 🤗 Another absorbing watch, your close-ups really are so much appreciated, thank you for taking such trouble with your filming Master Johnson
Thomas: Lars would more than approve. He would be ecstatic that you did such a superb job of restoration. What a beautiful table. Carol from California
It amazes me that you just dive into restoring these family heirlooms. I guess you have proved to yourself that there is nothing you can't restore. You have proved that to me for sure. Wonderful work. Ella is such a fabulous friend. I hope you had a nice visit with Em.
Beautifully restored to show the skill involved when made, yet not removing traces of time. Your attention to detail in keeping it original is impressive. Well done! Thank you.
Happy to find a new offering from TJAFR. I have seen a number of videos by craftsmen with excellent skills and serious commitment to their craft. But you, Tom, are in a class by yourself. There is no one else like you personally or professionally. You stand alone.
Oh I think Lars would be very pleased indeed Tom. You totally revived that piece so respectfully. Your admiration for the builder was evident throughout. Beautiful table. I couldn't believe how thick the veneer was. I'm a total sucker for parquet and that was just beautiful. Love watching the difference the oil makes to the wood. I'd be thirsty too if I'd been standing around for that many years. Beautiful job Tom. Thanks for sharing. I'm off to watch it again before bedtime. What an honorable feat! Nothing less than fantastic work again, with such care paid to the original piece and craftsman. I am now writing notes as I watch your videos, in the hopes that some of it will sink in. Thank you for all you do, Cat from Owling Dog.
I enjoy watching, the care that goes into these repairs are amazing, respectful, and honors the art, the history. In our hurry up, throw away, and disposable world, I appreciate the attention being brought to these items. The effort and skill that goes into color matching is no small thing. Talking to the viewer as if we are in the room being taught is appreciated as well. There is so much skill, that needs to be documented, for that day when these things will be needed again. Thx for your efforts. Thanks for sharing.
What a beautiful piece of work you did on this table. Amazing color match not to mention the patience you have in making it look just right. I really love to see you work Mr. Johnson. Thank you for sharing.

Good morning from Italy Thomas. Your dog is always with you! Great dog.
Yes she is! Never far from my thoughts. We miss Italy! I was there last in 2019
Come back to Italy, but don't stop in Rome😄😄😄@@johnsonrestoration
Amazing work. I marvel at the detail and care. A true artist practicing his craft. I'd love to see more of that old dog, who could be a RUclips star on his own.
Thanks! She could be!
What an honorable feat! Nothing less than fantastic work again, with such care paid to the original piece and craftsman. I am now writing notes as I watch your videos, in the hopes that some of it will sink in. Thank you for all you do, Cat from Owling Dog.
You're welcome Cat!
So satisfying that such a beautifully crafted piece of art should find its way into Tom's workshop to be given a new life.
Thanks!
You're welcome! Well said! I appreciate it
Wonderful job Mr Johnson as always, you’re the man🤜🤛
Thanks!
What a beautiful piece of work you did on this table. Amazing color match not to mention the patience you have in making it look just right. I really love to see you work Mr. Johnson. Thank you for sharing.
You're welcome!

Nice that you mention the appreciation for that beautiful table. precious that you restore beauty!
Thank you very much!
What a beautiful little table, all the more precious because of the owner's family connection with the maker. You've been more than worthy of this, Tom, and in fact I think you've excelled yourself with this one!
Thank you! I appreciate it!
Looks great! I save your videos to watch when I want to treat myself to the calming, steady rhythm of your voice and work. Medicine for my heart!

Thomas, you are a genius when it comes to colour matching. Years of experience obviously but it's like alchemy watching decide on multiple oils, stains and finishes to get the best colour. Wow.
Thanks! It is definitely experience
The work is fantastic as always but really love seeing the dog.
