Agreed!! but not 1984 style).....in London UK the cams they use are well over 4k..some are 50 megapixel most are 12meg...but the average person is recorded 70 time per day throughout London and surrounding vicinity....almost 1million of them throughout the UK.....i imagine that cities and towns here will soon implement the same....it is a great idea and one whose time i think has come.... especially with the way things seem to be going....You are point on Sir!!! and chose a very relevant topic that should be regarded as paramount in our daily lives. Thanks again Officer Randall!!

Like everything, you have the good and the bad. I agree, it is good to have information when a crime is committed, but the thought of being watched all the time creeps me out. Specially when we don't know who is watching and what they can or will do with all that data. Reminds me of the series "Person of Interest".

Hi Randy many Thanks for this.
Being a hardcore True Crime Junkie I have watched all of this Technology solve Complex Violent Crimes that one might think would take months to arrest the Perpetrators of these Heinous Crimes take a very short time say maybe two weeks before arrests are affected. It is absolutely mind blowing. Even Retired LE I listen to are absolutely amazed at how these Complex Cases come together. Casinos and most ppl probably do not realize have been using Facial Recognition forever. I love the technology We have. This is just My opinion but initially I thought with all this technology it would deter Offenders from doing the Crime. I personally do not think this stops Offenders from doing Crimes but rather is instrumental in identifying those involved after the fact and bringing them to Justice. I would like to hear Your thoughts on if You believed Camera Surveillance would do more as a Preventative Solution than in My opinion. I have watched all forms of Crimes caught on Camera with the Offenders not caring less they are on camera.. I hope this makes sense what I am saying here. Many Thanks💙

I don’t have a problem with surveillance as long as I’m not thinking about it :) as it is eerie. But if it helps keep people safe-especially when it comes to missing persons-then it is to be expected as part of living in society. Happy to hear the video surveillance is better these days. It’s the other kind of more intrusive monitoring ie how people use social media, websites they visit, etc that feels like a privacy issue.

Consider the unsettling scenario of using your cell phone's front camera, multitasking in the washroom while watching your favorite show, only to realize that others could be observing you as well. It's a chilling thought. Reflecting on the film "The Truman Show," it prompts deeper questions about the extent of surveillance in our world.

A big one we have in NZ is the LPRC licence plate recognition cameras that are literally everywhere. Carparks, malls, even the Councils have them. Incredibly detailed and good. Can track a vehicle up and down the country just by using those cameras

When I worked in the UK there were video cameras all along the streets so the police could track everyone, following wherever they went: daily or weekends.

    • @OfficerArsenault

I would think for the average police service they wouldn’t have the employee resources to track people too much, but of course you never know. I’d be lying if I said that cops have never used equipment for nefarious reasons.

I agree that surveillance is a good thing. We have several cameras at our home. There has been increasing crime in our neighborhood as well as in our town. We decided it was mandatory to get them after my so sons truck was broken into and our cars as well. We have had items stolen right in front of the cameras. I also had one brave sole go through our backyard from the business behind us broke our fence climbing out. It’s sad what our society has become.

Nowadays everyone turns on their camera on their phone to record incidents. I live right downtown and there’s always something going on. Last week, police blocked off part of the street. I went over and asked what was going on. A woman was going to jump off a multi level parking garage by Dundas and University. The parking is about 6-7 stories high. I found out more information of what really happened. We sometimes only see the end results of what really happened. Many people already had their opinions. My neighbour contacted me and had a recording of the woman and her 2 children being assaulted by her boyfriend on the street. He assaulted all of them. I seen the video and he shoved her to the ground. She tried walking away and he followed her and continued to assault her. She must have decided that she had enough and decided to go to the top of the parkade. The police had to take her down and an ambulance took her away. My neighbor did contact the police with the video. I hope they get the help they need. ❤️❤️

This is ideal for crime is out of control and also needed to solve cases and also give people piece of mind for all citizens. This could be a pro and con. It's well explained and I'm all for it. The people opposed to this whole thing are the older people and also the "woke" people if not people with psychiatric conditions with paranoia in their diagnosis. We need to be safe and this is the best, if not one of many, ways to have a high level security to be used in court as well as evidence during a crime.

As well they don't do Anything to the drivers who Almost hit you when they're driving erratically!!! But Whoever does Bad to another person, comes back on to them regardless of their job description!!! The law Applies to Everyone!!!

Indeed.. I know you have a lot of experience with individuals who are naive to the fact that *not only do you self monitor in healthy ways but that you record events as a team & a unit so that when individuals/suspects enter an obliviously delusional mind set that 'they are alone with you & no one is watching' & that 'they know you better than you know your self just for the hell of it' that it is either because they need serious psychiatric help
    or,
they are really just naive (Dunning Kruger) as to how all forms of surveillance (I know you know & use ideally healthy ones with self awareness & ones that help us have fewer mental illnesses than we already have not more, I know you know how that works that surveillance can also work like a clock through internet, financial, phone, etc activity.. which is often the most accurate & safest surveillance to make & document) works.....
& so being a great documentarian & using surveillance but using it hygienically & to protect your peers exposes both of these traps & more traps which then as you already know sets off a domino effect of evidence that hopefully you carry all the way back to the first domino
    like a sting operation
& many of those missing dominoes you are able to guess against your own accurate surveillance & then the guess has a location & the evidence is located & contrasted with your surveillance & then a prosecution is made
& then world is a safer place thanks to you!!!
    yes
:)* Have a great Sunday officer Arsenault!!

@@OfficerArsenault one more thing I love how there’s always been police working sort of internationally and that’s one of my most favorite things about policing is how they reach out to each other all across the globe usually for cases, but I love that about police.
