Hello modern rouge
Definition of modern rogue. Beautiful content my friends
Well, commercial fire extinguishers were terrible, and borderline dangerous. Might as well test some less standard options. Like just tossing in a can of Barbasol shaving cream. Or perhaps a can of expanding foam insulation. Frankly, I think you could make a better fire extinguisher with junk yard materials
.
I feel it is a good time to mention once again that Brian is LITERALLY a professional when it comes to fire
At playing with fire, not putting fire out

It is also funny how you use a firepit to contain fires, but the set out a line of flammable gas outside of the pit
apparently it used to be a pool
they mention it as a nudist colonies pool in the end card
Ikr there was no need for that
And said line of gas relit the fire the extinguisher ball put out, or at least would have likely put out, they're not meant for open air, windy places

Dear modern rouge. I have had a chimney fire. It's really bad in old houses as it can light the rafters which can smoldering for days. Our house is 200 years old. The fire brigade slowly trickled water down the chimney for about an hour and a half before checking the whole house and loft with a thermal camera.
We were lucky they didnt just fload the living room. They ofcourse got tea and biscuits. Firefighters are awesome.
3 ways to tell this comment came from someone watching this in the UK... 1) we don't have "fire brigades" in the US 2) their house is nearly as old as our entire country (let that sink in for a sec, all you fellow Americans out there) 3)they had tea and biscuits after, like it wasn't that big of a deal
@@spencerbrotherson9061 to be fair, the UK treats most shit like a regular ass Tuesday, save for, you know, deaths of royals

"We'll use the same amount of gas" Progressively adds more and more gas. Leads it out of the pit. Very modern rogue
Those "fireballs" were pretty common in the wood fired stove days. In fact I used to see them in antique stores and estate sales from time to time. They were a blown glass ball held up with a wax mount, so if the room got too hot, it would drop, shatter and hopefully snuff the fire. If I understand it correctly though, the liquid in the old ones was horrifically toxic.
Yeah I remember going to an old whaling museum or something, and they had an area on naval firefighting. They used to have containers (i believe glasses wrapped in something else) with a chemical that was probably the same thing youre describing. They were supposed to get alongside the burning ship and hurl these things onto the deck. The guide mentioned they were very effective at stopping fires on ships in the pre-fire extinguisher times but unfortunately were also very effective at killing people so they were discontinued
This is one of those episodes that I just subconsciously thought already existed. Because, you know - it sorta should.
King of Random has done something similar in the past.
Should be noted: most of the extinguishers they’ve tested thus far (in this and the previous video) are actually meant to be used inside, ya know where there’s generally not a strong wind both dispersing the extinguisher’s stuff and feeding the fire more oxygen and reigniting it
and, for the fire ball, they LITERALLY had an external fire that relit it.

Next Time! On “The Modern Rouge”; Fire Extinguishers, Part 3. Brian and Jason question where Cory got a sub kilo ton tactical nuclear device to put out a raging oil well fire. Tune in for the exciting conclusion!
No they wouldn't, they would never question such a thing. O.o Cory has both "Sources" and "Pockets" o.o
They use a nuclear device to set out the Gateway to Hell. That endless pit of burning gas in the, Middle east I think it was.
“How do you extinguish a flame? Set off an explosion right beside it”
- Cpt. Price
I mean Mythbusters proved it CAN work
"you don' need to be close to the fire" I almost chocked on my caesar salad!
You guys should definitely do a series on mor prison tech. It's fascinating to see how people use their ingenuity to figure out ways to do things and make things like flat grills in prison with limited supplies.
So my guess for the last one is they simply put the trail of gas outside the explosion radius and that's why it didn't work.
Good look for anyone reading before they saw context.
Jason: "So what is this?"
Corey: "This, is a fire extinguisher."
Jason: "Thanks Corey."
Brian: *absolutely loses it
This is why I love The Modern Rogue, they are so cultured, star wars, atla, probably lots of others i dont know. They're stupidly funny, dumb humor, and tons of references.
The grenade one works well in enclosed spaces, had to use one on a BBQ that got out of hand q couple years ago.
So on our rigs, we actually carry straight up road flares to throw into chimneys to suffocate the fire when we get a call like that. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t but it’s an easy start.
Oh, I’m a firefighter.
"I really kinda want to try and bowl with these things at some point" ... I'd watch that.
Well in regards to the first one...if you have to use it, I suppose you won't have to worry about having nothing to start it...
That's the exact reason it's designed that way. The fire itself starts it
We used to have these glass fire grenade things in our lab. they looked like a sealed lightbulb glass filled with liquid. Apparently a professor made them decades earlier to throw on fires in the lab. The contents would react and extinguish pretty much any fire they'd encounter.
Not gonna lie: the turrets and bowling with the dumpster-fire balls totally needs to be a thing.
I havent watched yet, but i remember a mcguyver episode where he had to put out an oil rig fire with dynamite.
That's absolutely a thing too - they did it in Iraq after the war. A big enough explosion will expel all the heat and oxygen for a moment and then you're left with just spraying oil.
And then Stephen Segall ripped that off too :P
the Russians used a nuclear bomb to put out a gas well fire once. Its on youtube somewhere.
I personally feel the second one is equally as effective as just enclosing the fireplace to begin with. The whole idea is to smoother the flame. So if you have a mostly air tight fire place to begin with as would be needed to make use of that extinguisher you could just use the fire itself to create the smoke needed to smother it.
Mostly airtight still will draw in fresh air as it creates a vacuum or low pressure and keep it burning. By adding a controlled burn at the bottom near the fresh air, it steals the oxygen before it can make its way up to the fuel you want to stop burning. If you've got a whole log still burning in there, might be a bit different, might not, idk.
I can absolutely imagine it working where you have an insert or firebox that can close and nearly seal (that's how it slows down a roaring fire anyway), but I'm not confident it would do much if you had a traditional open fireplace. The majority of the action comes from shutting off the source of air...and this burn would help use up the last of it. If you can't shut off the air, this wouldn't do much.
@@straphyr looks to me like it probably has an oxidiser inside of some kind, the idea is to create a lot of "empty volume" of gas that cannot be ignited and is not oxygen. I am probably very wrong but it seems to me it is supposed to keep burning even if there is no oxygen, otherwise you'd have the same problem and just be adding fuel to the fire.
also it DID put out the fire, it just relit because they LITERALLY HAD AN ACTIVE FUSE GOING TO IT. They were literally actively relighting the fire and are surpised that the fire relit
This is, by far, my favorite channel of all. They never fail to entertain me. Great job, guys!
Guys, upstart is a predatory lending company, their loans have like 25% APR.
that's actually a bit lower than most major credit cards given to people building credit. If you can pay the bill on time or sooner you shouldn't have to worry about high APR

Cool related fact: Modern Marvels did a really neat episode about oil well firefighting, and if I remember it right explosives have been the go-to method of extinguishing flaming oil wells since the 1920s. All ignition sources are removed beforehand, then the shockwave from the explosives puts out the fire, and then they have to cap the well before something reignites it.
Hold up..... throw that ball at RUclips...... that’s a dumpster fire, careening down a hill 😂😂
I feel like all of these would work waaayyyy better in enclosed spaces like houses
Love it! I hope there will be another part of fire extinguishers

The fire ball was exactly what I wanted to see! Thanks this is awesome
I was about to buy those Element ones but trying to start it seems too hard in an emergency
thats wild I just watched a mythbusters episode on a similar topic.
Damn, I remember this on Cow Chop. The explosion seemed so deafening lmao
Well this title/topic got me hooked in a split second
I remember one of the first McGyver Episodes was him exploding a burning oil rig that was on fire to extinguish it ^.^
homeboy cracking up after the party ball had me rolling.
I hope to ever see a fire truck bringing a turret full of those ball extinguishers to a fire like Jason suggested. That would be a blast for sure.
The third one I feel like had the problem of "someone trailed the gas out of the potential range because of this damn wall"
Time to look up that first extinguisher 🤯
The actual video is more interesting than the title. Explosives sounded like I've seen that before, but instead we get to see testing of crazy devices designed to put out fires.
I don't usually acknowledge sponsors, but I have used upstart (am still using actually) and they're pretty good! Easy to use and they sent me my money within a week! I messed up the first payment because I added the wrong account, and since I payed them the next day they didn't report a late payment. Though they give you up to thirty days before they report it as late!
The explosion the ball made was really cool, too bad it didn’t actually work though! Great video guys!
This was great. Yeah all three of those were meant for pretty tightly confined spaces like in a closet or a trash can, dumpster etc. The ball shaped one would be particularly effective in a dumpster or trashcan. In a real explosive, the explosion sucks the oxygen pit of the immediate area which helps put put a fire out. In that case. The powder just smothers it. They used to use explosives to put out oil well fires.
😆😆😆Brian's reaction at 2:28 is priceless!!!🤣🤣🤣
I was wondering if you were going to test a fire globe. I saw a video out of South Korea where a company makes artistic versions of the fire globe intended to be placed around like a piece of table art until its needed and thrown at a fire.
Love you guys.
This is exactly the idiocy I signed up for, many thanks haha
So, how you typically fight a fire. You "take ground" one step at a time, so push the fire back, and don't allow it to come back. So with the first "flare" start at one spot, and push the fire back until you reach the other side. Don't wave it around, that's why it can spread back to the previous points. They should've had a fireman/ instructor present to explain it.
You wanna put out an oil fire, sir, you set off a bigger explosion right next to it.
sucks away the oxygen. snuffs the flame.
- Cpt. John Price
That second one was the epitome of “you either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.”
I really love ur content
This reminds me of that MacGiver episode when they use nitroglycerin to put out a gas field fire.
Fun fact: In 2018 firefighters in Sweden had problems with a forest-fire reaching an old firing range where there was likely still ammunition laying around. Due to the danger of the fire detonating the old ammunition they could not send people close to the range to extinguish it. How did they solve this? They asked the military for help who sent bomb-planes to bomb it! It worked really well, and after that "test" they approved it as a method of stopping forest-fires.
Not just likely to be UXO there -they could hear stuff going off in the fire...
I agree that pit still has germs from the nudist colony , even though this is the 10th or so fire based activity in there.
I'm glad you did this. Idk if you saw my comment mentioning it on that vid (they did)
it's amazing how long this channel has been on youtube.
The Swedish airforce actually tried using fighter jets with 500lbs bombs to extiguish forest fires in hard to reach areas ion 2018. It worked fairly well. The shockwave of the bomb extionguished the fire quite effectively. In that case the fire was in a bomb testing range with lots of unexploded ordnance so the fire fighters were reluctant to go there by foot. xD Theres video footage of it on youtube.
A cool thing would be for the Slayer type fire extinguisher would be if there was a little burst of water at the end to just soak everything
"They already know how to spell the other one" Indeed I can spell Rogue correctly every time, because I can hear Brian say "ARR OH JEE YOO EEH!" in my head, LOL
It would be interesting to try the "fire ball" test again on a shed fire and see what happens. I think it is pretty clear why fire departments do not think highly at all about them as they do more damage than help. But hey, big boom is always exciting!
1:38 Joker, is that you laughing in disguise?
You should try to use those fire extinguisher balls as a booby trap or a ninja Escape device I've seen people hold them and let them go up in their hand so they're reasonably safe
Crazy dances nice marry poppins reference 👌🏼👍🏼
Cory: Grenade?

I'd love to see you guys build a small radio telescope! I plan to build one myself!
I had an idea that you could pack the first fire putter outer in a survival kit so that if you were lost you could draw attention without causing a forest fire but id like to know if the smoke or whatever it was would thin out too fast
for the chimney one you should have tried stacking more of those bricks if you had one, dumped the gasoline in there, and then dropped in the fire extinguisher thing
Fire? Explosions?
Brian: better put on my flip flops.
There's a 1968 John Wayne film called 'Hellfighters' where they use explosives to extinguish oil well fires. The explosions push all the oxygen away from the fire, suffocating it. Check it ou!
this seems safe. these guys are professionals so I have no worries non at all. this is safe. there are 5 lights and I think this is a good Idea.
Since the first aerosol has a long release time, can you not use the pressure to divide et impera the puddles while putting them out ?
Perfect fire.
11:35 the fire is shooting at us!
Poor Jason...that fire ball scared the bejesus out of him!
The first one seems quite nice, it takes very little effort to deploy, is lightweight and requires fire to start its job, which is probably available when you need to use that.

If you do this again in the future, you should use flammable materials instead of accelerates. It might make things a little more realistic in regards to the unconventional fire extinguishers.
I have a feeling stunt scientist Steve Wolf got chills up his spine during the recording of this episode
I got that "darkest hour" reference!

1:38 petition to cast Brian as the next Joker
12:00 Ah yes, the exact thing you want, bombs going off when a shopping mall is on fire. It's not like that could add to the panic.
Once again we can't really make any comparisons because the gas was poured very differently for each test, BRIAN. Fun anyway though.

Can you try using Sulfur Hexaflouride (in its not pressurized form) to put out a fire that big? I know it's not meant to be used as a fire extinguisher bit it would probably look cool.
