I literally watched the first part of this episode yesterday after some adulting B's to decompress, and when his bike turned into a pig and he hit that tree I felt so bad. I had to cover my mouth and consciously not laugh. The shock of not remembering that happened... Smh lmao
I almost find it nice how well Gaz remembers the details of what happened to Dib and shows no annoyance reminding him of them when he asks. As nonchalant as she is about it, her brother’s misfortunes do stick with her.
She actually sounds genuinely empathetic towards him when the subject is brought up. The fact that she shows no annoyance in reminding him about them when he asked her shows that she really does care about her disabled brother. And maybe that’s another indication that the alteration of the timeline of him becoming severely disabled made her more genuinely concerned for her brother’s safety and thus is not mean to him like she is in the original timeline.
It was also foreshadowing for both "Tak the Hideous New Girl" and the movie "Enter the Florpus" that Gaz was gonna start normalizing the idea of being on adventures with her brother despite hating his obsessive behavior.
This episode as a kid stuck with me way more than dark harvest. I thought this episode was cool af, but crazy dark. I mean, Dib doesn’t just die. He deteriorates away slowly, suffering with even his literal lungs being punctured, as his memories and thoughts are completely consumed by trauma. Until he dies. Even then, when brought back, he’s still haunted, and basically a decayed corpse. It’s genuinely one of my favorite episodes in the entire series LMAOO for all the wrong reasons. It’s a badass episode
This is the same guy who harvested organs from children and replaced a kids eyeballs with fake ones painfully cause he was annoying him Zim cares about no one but himself
Dib was actually going to be permanently killed off at the end of the episode and replaced with another character, but Nick said no to that. Yet they allowed the torture leading up to it to conspire anyway
This is a great lesson in not being greedy in a cartoon. Zim had already won by the time dib was at his doorstep, he was fully neutralized from the timeline, but he had to get greedy for an extra chuckle and give him super hero origin story.
Fun fact, when Jhonen Vasquez worked on the DVD commentary for Invader Zim, this Ep right here was when he was seriously considering permanently writing Dib out of the show in favor of Keef. Jhonen believed that if Dib were written out of the show, Keef would still be an acceptable replacement for Dib because Dib's obsession with Zim is wanting to personally destroy him but Keef's obsession with Zim is he's desperate for friendship so either way there would be some kind of human foil getting in Zim's way. Now thank god someone told Jhonen to not do any of this because Dib became a very popular character and I dunno how certain events would have taken place in this show without Dib playing the only person who is sane and being the sole reason the earth doesnt explode. Gir's speech on the Butterfly effect before his head exploded was like a personal anecdote from Jhonen himself where if there were ever one instance he wouldnt just hit the reset button on something it was this.
To those upset at Zim for being supposedly mean to GIR, well GIR is his SIR unit that's supposed to serve him, so GIR ought to do as Zim says, no matter how stupid the plan sounds. Plus, Zim did cave and allow GIR time to play with the piggies. As well, Zim himself likes piggies, pizza, and waffles too lest we forget. For those who are upset at Dib's condition, just be glad that JV didn't get his way in this case, because JV wanted Zim to WIN & wanted Dib to DIE, but Nick wouldn't allow it.
O my god.. I'm so late but yea, And Zim is nice to Gir too. For example: In Tak: the hideous new girl, He say's "The earth is mines to destory! And I already promised the moon to Gir🙂" and in episode 1 he Yells "A genuis" To Gir.
Wanna know the irony of this whole thing? Dib spent his entire life trying to prove that there’s paranormal entities, and aliens out there and it ruined his life. Zim by Changing those moments to pigs also ruined his life. Dib was just doomed from the Getgo cause he just couldn’t let it go to prove he wasn’t crazy.
I really feel bad for him. He just wanted to "save the earth" and prove to his father that he was more than "that crazy kid". But he was also greedy at times (just look to his power fantasy on episode 19).
I love how Zim defies expectations of the "he's gonna keep Dib alive because secretly he feels like his life is meaningless without him" and straight-up kills him, like Zim doesn't think that far ahead and I'm glad they avoided that cliche
