""Super Mario Bros." is the worst telling of a great story ever told.
Every story element is meticulously worked out.
The different production teams that came in and left redirected the movie's vision so starkly while the production design maintains the look and feel that it looks like a single continuous well-directed workaround of a high vision presented on a low budget.
@@darknessviking It's part of his character. If you didn't see him you wouldn't have a vision of what you hope to never look like.
The car were electric because there was no fossil fuels. Holy crap, you blew my mind open.
ooohhh shit!!!!! I never even thought of that until now.....
Makes no sense. This would change the whole world dynamics.
Instead of MANhattan it's DINOhattan
never picked up on that. wow.
The same number of dinosaurs would eventually have died, if not way more. Without a mass extinction, all the same dinosaurs alive at that time would eventually die in their normal life span. It makes ZERO sense to think there would be no fossils..
Doesn't matter if dinosaurs extinct or not, fossil fuels are from trees.
Edit: I learned today that actually 90% of the oil comes from algae.
It’s my theory that this movie is where the Daisy and Luigi pairing came from
Actually, it was NES Open Tournament Golf, my friend!
No actually it came from Deviantart, like most shippings.
_Name? - Mario. - Last name? - Mario. - And you? - Luigi. - Luigi Luigi? - No, Luigi Mario._
Christ above.
Django Fett There’s three. There’s Mario Mario and Luigi Mario
Well they are the "Mario" brothers...
Weirdly enough, that's actually canon (as much as Mario canon is a thing)
@@porkcracklins630 actual Mario's original name is jumpman..
I recognize the numerous flaws, but I can't help loving this movie. As sloppy and uneven as it may be, it's one-of-a-kind and holds tons of childhood nostalgia for me.
The best part is that Bob, John, and Dennis had a contest between themselves to see who could do their scenes hammered the best.
Yea, the original movie that was pitched to all three of them was not what ended up being made, the movie was rewritten on the spot, day by day, shot by shot.
Brandin Bertucci I think it’s good that despite all of the bs going on with the writing, and directing, the actors themselves did their best to carry the film as much as they could. In retrospect, most of the actors look back with fondness for the movie, and love hearing that there are a group of people that enjoyed the project. Even Bob Hoskins hated the whole damn thing, and he still gave a good performance (despite being hammered most of the time).
Was it whiskey or rum one of the two I believe
@@tylersmith7906 Wasn't it both at one point?
Regulus Theron maybe I'm not exactly sure that's why I asked
I love this movie haha
Hey, when are you making a lost bits video on super Mario 3. That would be great.
I won't lie, as a kid I was excited for the sequel that was teased at the end.
I thought maybe in a part 2, they would have started to resemble the game.
yea me too.
I still rewatch it at times. I only wanted toadstool to be represented better, as well as goombas. And even if they weren't mushroom people, they didn't have to be THAT dumb..but then again, as much as we just kill them so easily in games, that works also
Fun fact: In one of the earlier drafts, Bruce Willis was intended to make a cameo as John McClane up in the vents of Koopa Tower.
Dude, is that true? Big if true.
@@Jason-on4hg It's true, also Arnold Schwarzenegger turned down the role of King Koopa.
@@aggelos0225 As did Michael Keaton. Also, Tom Hanks was initially approached to play Mario.
Would easily have been the best part of the film, haha
Hanks was considered for the role of Luigi, not Mario.
There's also the Mario 3 reference many people overlook that the King has been transformed and they have to change him back hence that line "I'm back" that the King says.
My favorite story concerning this movie is Dennis Hopper telling about how his son asked him why he did this movie, and Hopper saying "So you could always have shoes." His son then remarks, "Dad, I don't need shoes that badly."
The rapist one? I feel bad for Hopper that that freak is his legacy.
Dennis Hooper did say that he had that conversation with his son
Bob Hoskins never had that conversation with his son, it was Dennis Hooper
Bob Hoskins did say that doing the Super Mario Bros movie was a nightmare and it was the worst movie that he did
@@bigmetroidfan1263
It's funny, his exact words are a heck of a lot funnier especially when you hear them in your head with that cockney accent of his.
"The worst thing I ever did? Super Mario Brothers. It was a f***in' nightmare. The whole experience was a nightmare. It had a husband-and-wife team directing, whose arrogance had been mistaken for talent. After so many weeks their own agent told them to get off the set! F***in' nightmare. F***in' idiots."
This movie has aged quite well, and really is a showcase of these late 80s/early 90s campy style. Especially with that soundtrack. But holy crap I didn’t realize the attention to detail they gave that world, like the electric cars.
Things that carried over to the games from the movie: Luigi is paired off with Daisy in most things now
Well, that actually originated in NES Open Tournament Golf, which came out a few years before this movie did.
funny how daisy appears as a playable character in as many video games as waluigi :) except daisy isn't even a smash assist trophy...
@@greenheroes Because she's an actual character now.
@@KaiserGX and I forgot she was a character... as usual I forget the essential :D
...So, nothing carried over then 😂
This is my favorite horror movie of all time!

It's almost like they didn't want to let him talk.

John LuigiMario is my favorite actor.
This movie is a guilty pleasure for me.
Same here I'm bout to watch it on dvd right now I haven't seen it in a few years
I mean, I have it. And I love it. So there's that
Loved this movie as a kid, still kind of do now.
I legitimately enjoy this film not just as a guilty pleasure. I find it to be a good film.
I still love this movie also😀😀 it gets to much hate
I’ve always said the movie was good if it wasn’t a Mario title
I love that for Barney, you chose the footage of him being gun down at a parade
I gotta say being a massive fan of iron giant, I am in love with your profile name and pic
A classic. I have this on DVD. It was very interesting to see this one as a kid. I don’t think I was disappointed because it would have been hard to make a realistic Bowser back then and it was such a unique movie it didn’t matter. Those things with the tiny lizard heads were enough to make the movie worth seeing.
So glad they had somebody on that thinks Dennis Hopper is a really good actor.
When you all started talking about how the de-evolved fungus king is spreading throughout the land, I was surprised that nobody brought up that Koopa actually called it the Mushroom Kingdom when he taunts the king during one scene.
To the best of my recollection, he says something like "You can choke this little 'mushroom kingdom' all you want..."
Just another fun little reference to the games.
Did anyone see the twin towers scene at the end
also the king being transformed into something nonhuman is a reference to smb3 where each king has been turned into some sort of animal and recovering the scepter restores them
When do we get to see the movies for mom and dad?
I want to see their “Deep Goat” review. It’s the most popular adult film in Afghanistan.
Mom and Dad save the world??? 🤔
good question
Have Jenna Jamenson as a special guest.
Can you imagine reviews of old 70s and 80s mom and dad movies lmao !
I consider this one a weird dystopian sci fi movie, and it's actually pretty good.
it would've been amazing if they had just not called it Super Mario Bros, for many a watcher that kills it right there.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@UltimateGamerCC I disagree. It went over a lot of people's heads since it didn't directly resemble the game, so casual viewers didn't appreciate the style, the numerous references and the themes presented. Simply put, it was ahead of its time.
Tragically still a better video game movie then Doom: Annihilation

Eh, snifits are shy guys who are into borderlands.
@@an3582 Shyguys are already Shyguys who are into Borderlands.
@@an3582 I love this reply so much. 🤣🤣🤣
@@HKgaming86 well...Technically Snifits originated in 1987 for the Famicom disk system game called Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic, which due to the Japanese version of Super Mario 2 being too similar to it's previous title in graphics, level design/gameplay and/or too difficult for Western audiences Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic was destined to essentially become the basis for Super Mario 2 for everyone in the west and thus the Snifits have been around a few years before super Mario rpg was released. 💗
I liked the bizarre translations of Mario iconography into this movie’s world, because they were so off the mark and yet it was neat to suddenly recognize them in this cyberpunk movie. I felt like the “Goombas” with rounded heads were actually Goombas, while the dinosaur headed ones were Koopa Troopas and there was one with goggles that I interpreted as Lakitu. Iggy and Spike are basically Koopalings or the Bowser Jr to some extent too.
I love the design of the Koopa troopers. Those smiles on their faces crack me up every time I see them on screen
Koopas or the Goombas?
@@ljpal18 Goombas

@@ljpal18What I think is that Goombas are the ones with the round small heads, and the ones with the more reptile-like heads are Koopa Troopas.

Agreed
was wario as a character even a thing when the movie came out? i dont remember.
@@kasuraga Going by information available online, yes, he debuted the year before this film released. But I would guess the film was already in production before his creation, so couldn't have been included in the original film.

Toadstool's changeover to Peach for us was in the opening letter in Super Mario 64.

@@VoidReplicant Unfortunately, for some, they don't consider it as canon. I remember her originally being Princess Toadstool, just as Toad was originally Toadstool I think. Mario 64 was the only reference that I remember that used both Princess Toadstool and "Peach" (her nickname, both being used in the opening letter).
Her name could just be Peach Toadstool.
@@rob.d.1740 The only thing that would convince me otherwise is the quotations around Peach at the end of the letter. Usually that refers to a nickname, like buttercup for example.
Isn't Toad's name Kinopio in Japan?
I was always in love with the princess and wondered when she was coming back for a sequel as a kid.

I don't blame Bob Hoskins for hating this film

The dinosaur show ended its series with the meteor hitting the earth. That always scared me as a kid.
They're talking about the 90s Hensen Studios sitcom with puppets. The final episode was dark though. The dino WESAYSO corporation caused an ice age by causing a species of beetle to go extinct and the domino effect was going to lead to mass extinction of all the main characters.

If I can speak in comparison. Mario the movie didn't have so much success because of Jurassic park. Jurassic park captured the imagination, and became a phenomenon. It wasn't that Mario was a terrible movie. It was just beaten out by something entirely different.
Now for the comparison and you won't like it much.
