I've tried many over the years but this is the one I always go back to. This is a quick overview/comparison to a "typical" climber you'll find in most every outdoor store. Different people have different aspects that are important to them in looking for a stand. Other than safety I want a lot of comfort for long sits. I have other options if I need to be more mobile. Once I dial in where I need to be I'd prefer to sit in this if I'm putting in a lot of hours.

Have used my dad's old buckshot 4 15 years and recently switched to the Lone Wolf. Love that you took the time to review this stand. My Lone Wolf is primarily an archery stand and I will say for gun that thing looks cozy as all get
I took a nap with one ear open. Heard a buck below the tree. picked the gun out of the holders shot the buck and went back to sleep. Love the stand!!
I've had one of these (I actually have two) since 1996. One of the first modifications I did was drill holes in the tubes on the lower part of the stand where the bolt ends of the top part touch the lower part when it is packed up, so the bolt doesn't slide back and forth. Not long after I bought the first one, I replaced the black carry straps with A.L.I.C.E. Pack straps. They permit you to cinch the stand tight to your back and makes carrying it in and out of the woods a LOT nicer!!
I'd need this stand to send an electrical jolt to me every so often - I'd be up there napping with the birds while the game walked back and forth underneath me. ;)
Very well done! Going to order one today and get up in those trees on my property in West VA to start scoping out the best spot for this season.
You did a great job with this video. My Father in Law just gave me his Gunslinger stand last night. It is a lot heavier than my Warren Sweat but a whole lot nicer too. Thank you for taking the time to show me how it works and the features. I appreciate you.

I just wanted to say. After seeing your video I order one of these this last season. And it is the most comfortable stable stand iv ever been in. This has to be the most valuable video on the internet. And now this has become my primary hunting method given the right weather

Bought one of these a few years ago. I had to make a few adjustments on it but it is by far the most comfortable tree stands I've ever sat in. I've used several other brands but this one is number one.

I love these stands! By far the most comfortable stand on the market.. They make a combo stand for Bow hunting. But the Gunslinger model like you have is my choice. No trouble to get in and out of and you don't feel like your gonna fall out of it like you do trying to turn around with your knee in the seat of a tree lounge. Check out the extra pad that the company sells for these. It helps keep you a little warmer in those colder all day sits.

Have used a gunslinger for a while on and off. Love it for the comfort!!! Usually put it on a tree and it'll stay there for most of the season where i hunt. Own a viper as well. They both have their pro's & con's. Nicknamed my gunslinger "transformer" after a friend saw how it unfolds into a stand lol. Great video, you earned another sub!!
I am 6’7” tall and I own 2 of these stands. I have hunted them for 20 years and love them. They are without a doubt the most comfortable stands on the market. If at 6’7” I can hunt it comfortably-anyone can!
The Gunslinger is my personal favorite by far.

I’ve had this stand for a very long time. Bought it at a expo show it was called Mike’s tree stand back then it is very comfortable however it’s bulky and heavy to pack in and out. I still have it and would be good for a pre set.
I have one from JRH, mine is 20+ year old, it’s a heavy duty model, it is heavy, but is my favorite climber by far !
I've been using a tree lounge since '95. I've got a Summit Viper too. I used the tree lounge about 70% of the time when I need to climb. When I get in the tree lounge, if need be I can stay in it from dawn to dusk, no problem. Whatever works best for you use it. Go put some deer in the freezer!
I have used several different Climbers not the one you are talking about . But I do have a Summit Goliath , Tree Lounger with the bow platform this Lounger I love it have fell asleep a many of times in it . It is a bit heavy but for comfort I can out up with it . I also like my Summit . As far as the Summit goes tighten your shoulder straps better than you had them I have carried mine a many of miles through the woods without that problem . Like I said I have never owned the gunslinger but everyone each his own .
I have a gunslinger also, your right about the comfort, I have to keep the head rest where it keeps my head forward or I fall asleep lol.
I live about 4 miles from jrh sports. He built a extra heavy duty gunslinger for my 275# son in law. It's the only climber that I'll use. I've been using them for 25 years.
You compared it to an old rusted steel summit... they make aluminum ones that are coated with a rubber material now to make them more silent than ever. Love my summit stands!
The point wasn't so much about a comparison to a Summit, new or old. I just used it for a frame of reference because I had one handy and they are more widely known. The new Summits still sit with back to the tree and have floppy seats with straps which are 2 things that differ from the Gunslinger. Those 2 things contribute to why I think the Gunslinger is so much more comfortable. Comfort was my main point. Aluminum would definitely be an upgrade and if my main point was weight it would definitely be valid.
I have both. -The aluminum Summit Viper was nice and light but snapped a weld on the lower while climbing and will never trust another Summit. After many years the Gunslinger (believe they were called Gun Turret back then) never failed, and I am more than happy to continue to carry it.

Great video . Just bought one last week . Haven’t had a chance to use it yet . Any chance on doing a video showing how you should properly use the strap to secure stand to tree once you have climbed to desired height ?
I have one from the first year they were released!. I own several of these. No stand comes close to these in comfort. They pack well even though they are a little heavy but not unpackable as they ride well on your back.

Good video! I have a gunslinger and an aluminum summit viper. While I like the GS, I most often use my summit… ease of use and easier to pack in and out. Also, the seat cushion doesn’t bother me.

Great stand. I had one about 20 years ago that was stolen. I bought another one from Doug and Marty’s treestands about 15 years ago and still have it. The most comfortable stand I’ve ever had.
I think the one from Doug and Marty is a little different it’s called the lounge,not the the tree lounge but just the lounge. They used to be made in NC and they are awesome, and I have two of them one is a bow hunting version with a larger platform. The one with the smaller bottom platform only weighs 17 lbs. They are extremely light but a little bulks. Again awesome stands for all day sitting though.
@@bennyclowney7506 You could be right. I bought the Doug and Marty stand a long time ago. The one I have now might now be a different brand but it's is exactly like the one in the video.

I would say the viper is probably the most comfortable even tho he should have done a comparison with it ive fell asleep more times in my viper than I wanna admit but when your sitting on air with a foot rest is kinda easy to do
One thing I would always add if it doesn't come with it is a strap from the climber to the sitting part. The last thing you want is to be sitting there and have the climbing slid far enough down the tree you cannot reach it. Don't ask how I know

That treestand is a direct reversal of the treelounge treestand designed by Bob Hice. It carries the same way. But with the treelounge you can adjust whether you sit up against the tree or lay it down and go to sleep. It even has a platform to stand up on to shoot your bow. 9:34 I have videos of them picking up 2,000 lbs of concrete blocks with it. You should look up Treelounge LLC. So you can recognize them if you see one just laying around some where. When I worked nights in the early 90's and the kids were out of school for the summer. I would take mine out to my hunting area and get some sleep. 😊
I have an old comfort zone from Dicks. Its steel and heavy but much less squirrelly than my Summit viper. The steel teeth bite into smooth or rough bark. Its just dang heavy. Either one is not difficult to ascend or descend with

Only thing I wonder about is how to keep your hook up to the tree for a safety harness out of your way.
I’ve not had any issues with my summit viper that you speak of ,and your clearly making video for the gunslinger stand ,while making the viper sound bad ,I do agree ,the gunslinger looks comfortable,but so isn’t the viper,I don’t want to sleep,I want to hunt .
They look comfy . When I was younger My favorite was the tomcat ll , however I did cushion the treefacing seat. If I got sleepy I good go to sleep lol like sitting in a school deck and not fall out. Wake up and take the shot.Gret climber for bow or gun hunting

David Mingues I have both to me the tree lounge is more comfortable but it’s harder to get out from the climbing position to the hunting position since I’m older and have bad knees so I don’t use it as much anymore.
@@JG-vo7zq I mounted mine on trees and use them as a hang on and use a ladder to access them. I use a Hunter safety system line and the system works great. Easy access but this setup is not so good for public land. I have one at 30 ft and one at 40. Really nice,,,

What happens when the chair rips and you fall out to the ground backwards.
I don’t see a connecting rope between the seat and climbing section. I was in a climbing stand about 30 years ago and the climbing section slipped and went all the way to the ground. It left me sitting there with my feet dangling. I was able to slide down the tree and retrieve it but I learned a hard lesson, always connect the sections of any climbing stand.
That same thing happened to me about 20 yrs ago except my rope came un tied on the way up and got up it fell all the way down.
I'm going to try to do a follow up video later this year about some of the things I got a lot of comments on here. I didn't show it but once you reach climbing height this stand comes with a strap to lock it down so you don't have to worry about it moving. I'll try to get into the finer details on video #2.
What are your feet locked in to on the foot rest, mine has a strap, but unless someone has size 3 kids shoes on it wont fit. My size 14 boot cant even come close to going in straps. Also what is that behind your ankles really locking you in/thanks
I haven't had problems fitting my boots in the loops except for a pair of 2000 gram insulated rubber boots. I just put a bungee cord behind my feet and seems to work well. I suppose you could DIY a new boot loop fairly easily if yours don't fit. Have a good one.
100% worth the money. I use it of blowfish and works great.
Don't like the idea that you cant wear a safety harness without a long teather.. Not for me but I am glad you like it!

I like a tree between me an the deer. If the deer catches movement it's not the human form. Deer seem to stand longer like seeing a squirrel on side of tree. I do love my 5 Tree Lounge stands once on the tree. They sleep so comfortable. Then I can roll the deer out on the Tree Lounge.
Definitely something to be said for getting up a tree and taking a nap. Those naps just a little better than others.
I tried the gun slinger and the tree lounge but I like the tree walker better.

Thanks. I don't have much doubt that you'll like it. I'd smile if I ever made a $ off RUclips or a commission on a product but thankfully I'm not counting on it. More interested sharing some of the things I've come to learn over the years and finding others on RUclips I can pick up a few pointers from. There isn't much professional or quality about my videos. All you really get is my honest opinion.
HEY Guy, That's the old summit steal treestand, It's heavy as Hell and loud too. I've owned almost every summit on the market, the same viper tree stand that's in aluminum is 20 Lbs ,and and has the sound deaf tech, and you can adjust the backpack straps a lot tighter too, and that summit treestand viper is a sit n stand up climber, But I'm getting the Gun Slinger because the seat and I also like staying behind the tree for cover. hey i got 1 question for you! why does the gunslinger only have 2 videos? one with you demo, and the other unboxing it.
It isn't marketed heavily like a lot of other brands. Even so it still surprises me that there is no content. Everyone I have let try it like it.
Facing the tree, good for rifle but what about archery? Can this be used for archery hunting?
I have killed several deer out of the this stand with archery tackle. I have taken a tree saddle to Ohio the last 2 years archery hunting. Its a much lighter setup but the concept is the same. You have a bigger platform with this climber than the saddle so you don't need to swing out wide like you would in a saddle. The one shot I almost couldn't make was straight down. When I drew my bow limbs wanted to hit the arm rests. I had to stand on tip toes to have enough room to draw. Other than shots inside 5 yards I've been able to make it work.

I used to hunt with a Tree Lounge. It really was the best and most comfortable stand I had ever used. And I tried several. I used to climb REALLY high in my Tree Lounge cause I was hunting in a ravine, and I needed to get above the hilltop near where my stand was located. I had a 70 foot rope to pull up my gear. I would climb until the rope came tight, then I'd lock it down and pull up my gear. The only downside to the Tree Lounge was the weight. Just a plain stand with no addons was 28 lbs.
I don't think I would be comfortable in anything 70 feet high. My "cheeks" would be pinched together too tight for comfort.
@@gohuntn.c.3711 On one hunt I climbed 70" and took my sleeping bag. I got inside while up on the Tree Lounge and fell fast asleep. That was before sunrise. I slept till 10am. Woke up and saw several deer. Didn't care, I went back to sleep. Woke up a few hours later and went home. Was a great day hunting. :)

@@randyjohnson6845 With bow adapter?... I'd say you're gonna come in at about 35 lbs or so. The Tree Lounge is amazing, but it is heavy as heck. :)
@@Rico11b its the biggest one they make and its 32 with bow adapter. No cushion no cable nothing. This is a model they made for a few years and then back to it.its not a D frame and it's not the original. I got an orginal big stand but it's in the woods right now. This is a model that I can only describe as a soft rounded edged aluminum. The original is definitely heavier and very squared off edges.i would guess if I weighed the big one in the woods it would go at least 37 to 39 pounds. Theres such a difference in the two that the heavy one goes either shorter distance or stays in an area the entire season and never comes home and the one I just weighed it goes farther and everywhere else.long distance or I take it home or it's just a all around stand.both are extended size for taller guys both have exactly the same dimensions but the one I got at home is a little more high tech with stronger air craft type aluminum. 20 years ago I bought it the day after hunting season was over in Georgia and Florida and it had a 50 dollar discount. It was 245 retail and discounted to 195 with no tax in 2000.it was the best 195 buck I ever spent
Wished I'd known about this stand a long time ago. Most "face away from the tree" stands are like sitting in a church pew and kill my back!!!
If I want to carry my washing on my back to go hunting , I’ll use the tree lounge!
Is there a need for a safety harness on this stand? If you do wear one, how do you get around having the strap on your back and dangling in your face when sitting toward the tree?
I would always encourage a safety harness/belt. I wear a traditional safety belt when I hunt from this stand that goes around my waist and also around the tree. I don't wear my hunter safety system and tether in from my back when I use this stand.
Go Hunt N.C. Any recommendations for waist harnesses? Everything these days seems to be full body that attaches at the back. Something around the waist that has a front attachment seems the way to go
If you are going to compare with a Summit Treestand. You should the SD verging of the treestand not the steel one. Because the Summit Viper SD is very quiet.
Thanks for showing this, but I like a full body harness and one I have connects out of your back. Not see how that could work in the Gunslinger, but I know of few who use harnesses with any treestand have been hunting for years; just lucky I guess.
Your full body harness probably has lineman's loops. Tie off using those vs. the tether between your shoulder blades. Same concept as hunting from a tree saddle.

I am from Wilkes. Outside of watching RUclips I'm not on social media a lot. Most of my videos are really just for my own personal memories but I feel like I've figured out a thing or two worth sharing from time to time.
I believe I would be more sleeping than hunting in that thing lol
Love the Gunslinger! I just received my order for the Gunslinger H.D. 350 I have had several of the Gunslinger 250 models and yes it is heavy but the comfort level is worth the extra weight. IMO Much better than a Treelounge. I had a new model of the Treelounge and it broke with me when I was about 10' in the air. If i wasn't wearing my safety harness I probably would not be making this comment!
Yikes ! I have a tree lounge as well . Where did it break and what do you weigh if you dont mind me asking ? Im about 6'3" 250 and never had any problems . Now I'm a little nervous .
@@robbosuave6165 This happened about 10 years ago. The tree lounge was the new model that they came out with when the company was sold. I live about 40 minutes away from the Tree Lounge factory. What happened is the bolts pulled thru the part that attaches to the top of the stand, they said I had the piece apparently install incorrectly. They replaced the broken piece but didn't offer any apologies. I told them that they could have been dealing with a lot bigger issue had I been hurt or killed they blew it off of course. Since then the company was bought back by the original owner's wife. Stands that are produced now are exactly like the original and I would trust it more that the one I had. I weighed probably 230 at that time. I don't think it was a weight issue but more of a design flaw! Good Luck hunting !!

they came out in the 80s they use to have tv commercials about it and in the hunting magazines
If had a chain attachment to tree and lighter would be the ticket. Reminds me a lot of the old tree lounge…
You just have to flip the summit the other way..just watch what is above you. Love the summit have a summit razor. Can sit all day and it is STURDY!

Have a Tree Lounge have the bow adapter for it also and have wheels that you can attach to it I make a car out of it to carry deer out best and ever had I have had it now for 20 years the video that i saw was the woman hanging off of it backwards up in the tree mine you can face tree if you choose you can also face away from the tree

Traditional safety belt or run a tether to your lineman's loops on the full body harness.

FYI, that summit is the old steel version. I know this video is a few years old, but you should retire that for safety. The steel tubes won’t show you any signs of internal rust until it’s too late.
