  • Say hello to Project PrincesS-Type. The Austin Princess is going turbocharged with a full engine and drive train swap from the Jaguar S-Type.
    In this episode we fabricate the strut tops and get them temporarily mounted using jigs made off of the S-Type.
    This project is about creating a fun, fast road car. Using the full engine, gearbox and running gear from the 3.0 V6 AJ30 Jaguar S-Type, engine as used in the Noble M12 & M400.
    We plan to turbocharge it with either twin Garrett GBC turbos, or one large Borg Warner SX300. We'll be documenting the full fabrication process, from suspension geometry to intercooler and exhaust fabrication, along with building the engine with forged pistons & con-rods.
    We plan to use as many of the original Princess parts as possible, along with keeping the exterior of the body shell looking the same too.
    Thanks for watching!

    Those wheels are perfect, exactly the right wheel for a hot late 70's design car.

    Really like the look of those wheels, and it will enhance the overall appearance of the car.

      That’s the plan! Should look a lot meaner on these wheels than the steels 😈

    nice choice, and for good reasons. Currently battling some of the same issues with selecting some after market wheels for a 70s RWD car, but made worse by a 5x127 pattern....

    Those wheels really change the attitude of the car, the proportions of them at the back especially so. I'm hoping when you get the engine and gearbox in we get just a hint of rake, this car would certainly be able to pull that off.

      @FabCoUK  2 года назад +1

      Yes I’m really looking forward to seeing it on the ground so I can get an idea of how it will sit, I think a little rake may be on the cards!😃

    Those wheels looks proper decent and don't really give away what lies underneath! I'd be surprised if you ran into trouble with the calipers. They obviously have a massive safety factor + probably vary +/- 1mm as fresh castings. They've also a lot less work to do compared to the S Type!

    • @FabCoUK
      @FabCoUK  2 года назад +2

      Thanks! That’s what I’m hoping, but I’d rather scrap a calliper just to be sure, they really don’t need much ‘massaging’, so hopefully I can get away with it!

    What a difference a set of wheels makes, good choice in wheels. The Calliper will be fine with a but ground off. Just a thought since they are jaguar front brakes, have you tried a mondo or focus calliper, I know discs and pads are the same but you never know the calliper might be slightly different. Keep up the good videos.

    Hi - loving your videos and the Princess concept - some brilliant practical engineering going on too! Just wanted to point out that your tyre sizes are quite close to the excellent ZZR and ZZS tyres Avon make for Caterhams. Eg. The Caterham 'CSR 260' has a 9J x 15 wheel and a 245x40 R15 tyre. This would give ~15mm less profile than your 235x50 R15 tyres (which may not suit the Princess quite so well), but would be wider. Likewise for the front, many Caterhams run a 6.5J x 15 wheel and 195x50 R15 tyre. Anyway, hope this gives additional options to consider if Toyo do stop making your preferred size.

    Please stop using "J" as a measurement! It is not a measurement it's the shape of the bead, it's got absolutely nothing to do with measurement, the width is in inches not alphabet
