- Today’s menu is Chinese style shrimp toast.
Sand the shrimp meatball with bread and deep fry on low heat. So, It’s crispy outside and bouncy inside!
I made it for the first time. I always had it in Chinese restaurants. It’s really nice freshly fried.
Shrimp toast is nice but, it’s so greasy you’ll get sick of it after a third one.

Ingredients (serves 15)
28 shrimp(600g frozen shrimp), 2Tbs potato starch, a little lemon juice
1 egg white, some salt&pepper, 1/2tsp chicken stock powder
8 sliced bread
I used chef lee yeon-bok’s recipe.
Recipe
1. Slice the edge of the bread and quarter.
When you slice the bread, slice like you are sawing, don’t press.
2. Peel and devein shrimp after thawing.
3. Finely chop the shrimp 80% of the way using a knife.
I chop the shrimp using the flat side of a Chinese knife like chef Lee, but it was too hard. So, I just chopped it. Haha
4. In a mixing bowl, add chopped shrimp, starch, egg white, lemon juice, chicken stock powder, salt and pepper and mix well until glutinous.
Chef Lee added lard, but I didn’t.
5. Make a meatball shape using your hand and put it on sliced bread. And then, sand with bread.
Try to make the meatball not stick out of the bread.
6. Fry in preheat oil at 130℃ until both sides are golden brown. And then, fry again at 180℃ for 2min. Done!
Chef Lee made a ketchup dip, but I used my honey mayo sauce. Enjoy with beer!

@@FluffyIronGolems yum cha is a dim sum place, or a restaurant that serves dim sum (usually chinese). Waiters push a food cart full of food (steamed/fried) and goes around tables where customers choose what they want from the cart. Its a fun experience and food is delicious, google places near you
I tried it and its really good. At first I was like why is she putting so much shrimp but then after making it I realised if there isn't enough shrimp you'll not really get its flavour

Tip:
“Egg Wash” it with oil then air fry it for 10 minute at 170 degrees.
It won’t be as greasy
Do i need to cover it with foil in the air fry cooker?
Why does the egg wash help with the greasiness btw?
N_H you don’t have to cover it.
N_H you just lightly cover it with oil and then airfry it. It won’t be as greasy since you didn’t deep fry it with oil

Boa-Noah shrimp? Bland? Shrimp is one of the only meats that secretes a strong flavor in my opinion. A little salt and paper bring it out nicely.
Depends on the temp of the oil. If it is too cold its gonna be super greasy.

One of my favorite things is shrimp toast! I didn’t realize how simple the recipe is. Though I have to agree that they are quite greasy. I usually squish mine between paper towel to get some of the oil out before I eat it.

I went to a Thai restaurant the other day and they served this shirmp toast with sweet&chili sauce to reduce the greasiness. And to be honest, it was absolutely amazing. Great video as always!

I can see this going so well with a crab dip
I made this recipe today and it was amazing, so crunchy and the filling was really good , i added a teaspoon of soy sauce and the white part of a scallion to the filling. Also i dipped the sides of the sandwich into toasted sesame seeds , oh it was outrageous. Thanks a lot for sharing this recipe

I make a different version of this. I use a whole shrimp per toast square. Marinate same as you, but with whole shrimp. Put the shrimp on a square of toast (I also like to add a tiny cube of ham) and pan fry with a little oil till bottom of toast is golden. Flip and pan fry the other side till the shrimp is cooked. The ham might fall off but that’s ok. Replace when you take the toast off the pan. After all of the toast squares are done sprinkle a little chopped green onion on top. Haven’t made this in a long time.

you should try this with sweet chili sauce. It goes so well and a little kick of chili will help you get sick slower 😉

Prawn toast is one of my favorite dishes to get with takeout, but im actually not a huge fan of chinese takeout so i dont get it often :’) might just have to try this at home!
