  • This is the BRAND NEW release from Bushmills, their 14 year old single malt!
Huge thanks to Bushmills for sending me this bottle to mark the launch of the new whiskey. They didn't ask me to do a review, but I figure, in order to be as transparent as possible, I just want to tell you I didn't pay for this bottle.
This is a new permanent addition to the Bushmills lineup, and it's meant to be a little bit different, as after being aged for 14 years in 1st and 2nd fill bourbon casks, it was finished for up to 12 months in Malaga wine casks.
It comes in at 40% ABV, and is likely chill filtered with colour added. Interestingly, the casks had previously been used to age wine for about 5 years, but were sent to Bushmills only 3 days after being emptied, so they should have given plenty of flavour to the whiskey.
Bushmills 14 Year Old Single Malt Tasting Notes:
    Nose:
Quite fruity and sweet, lots of orange peel, balanced with earthy spice, vanilla frosting and a touch of mango.
    Palate:
The mouthfeel is almost honeyed, with all of the notes from the nose, just turned up to 11. Definitely some bright tropical fruit notes, with ginger, cinnamon, and some darker oak spice, reminding me of cocoa powder. On the second sip I also got some caramelised brown sugar and apple.
    Finish:
The finish is long for a whiskey at 40%, with the orange peel from the nose making a reappearance, along with more of the earthy spices and a touch of freshly cut leather.
Overall, I think I quite like this whiskey. Do I wish it was up at around 46%, like we're seeing from a lot of brands? Of course I do, but that doesn't mean the whiskey isn't a nice little sipper! If you're a fan of Bushmills, you'll find a lot to like here, and even if you're not, this is definitely going to be a crowd pleaser.

Sounds like a great dessert! Orange, vanilla frosting, ginger, mango, brown sugar, cinnamon: intriguing! I'm still finishing off my last few bottles of their Malt of the Millennium barrel I bought ages ago. Slainte!

Oh wow, that's a bit of an early release, but the price is amazing! Might have to plan a trip to Hungary, but bring an empty suitcase!

My favourite whiskey so far is Black Bush even over the more expensive Irish whiskeys I've tried. I've also tried Bushmills American Oak cask finish. It's good, but I don't find it as good as Black Bush. I plan to try some more Bushmills for sure. Today Jameson Crested should be coming in which I chose based on your review :)

Cheers! And yeah, I prefer the black bush over the American oak finish.
Here's hoping you like the Crested just as much!

Can't wait to try this i'm a big Bushmills fan, one thing I don't like are the new squarish bottles and the red label on this one in particular is quite cheap looking to me.
By the way there's also a 12 year old available from the distillery or Bushmills site.

A lot of brands are going for unique or different designs to the classics (like Tullamore, irishman etc.)
I've not tried the 12, but I might be able to snag a glass at Whiskey Live this weekend!

Matt, How does this compare to the 16? I picked up a bottle of 16 in Dublin for 90 Euros and thought it was a good buy. 70 Euros seems to be a fair price. I agree, bring the ABV up to 46+. My favorite BM is the dandy darling BM21.

    • @TheWhiskeyNerd
      @TheWhiskeyNerd  16 дней назад +1

Between the two, I'd give the edge to the 16, as I really enjoy port finishes, but at the regular retail price, I think this has more bang for the buck.

Teeling small batch or single grain, roe and co blended, even to non whiskey drinkers they find them easy to drink

Well now you’ll have to get the yellow label 15YO and do a side by side - same style (no Sherry cask maturation) except done in Cognac Casks. Also, weirdly, cheaper than the 14YO 🫠
Once you’ve done that, a Supersize Bushmills review (10, 14, 15, 16 & 21 definitely, only do the 25 and/or 30 if you’ve won the lottery! And if you’re lucky enough to get a complimentary 25/30 YO then I call first dibs on a sample!)
