Cheif Dan George’s line delivery is one of the highlights in this movie. The sarcasm and deadpan delivery is gold and gives the film just the right amount of humor.
"Do you really think you can shoot all those men down before they shoot you? No, no, Mr. Josey Wales; there is such a thing in this country called justice!" "Well, Mr. Carpetbagger. We got somethin' in this territory called the Missouri Boat Ride." Fun Fact: This movie received high praise among Indian viewers for its non-stereotypical portrayal of Indians. DGA Hacks Fact: Philip Kaufman started to direct this movie, but was replaced by Clint Eastwood, which was a controversial move that prompted the Directors' Guild of America (D.G.A.) to institute a ban on any current cast or crew member replacing the director on a movie. A rule which has been called the "Eastwood Rule" ever since. Legendary Director Fact: Because of Chief Dan George's age, he would have trouble remembering his lines, so during takes, Clint Eastwood would begin to mouth his lines without realizing it and had to be told to stop because it would ruin the take. In a featurette on the DVD about making this movie, Eastwood says he'd have people drill Dan George on his lines, but when it came time to shoot the scene and since Chief George was a natural storyteller, he'd say: "Chief, just forget about the lines, tell me the story about the man who rode over the hill." Gun Enthusiast Fact: The Gatling guns shown during the massacre of the surrendering confederates are not Civil War-period versions of that weapon. The Model 1861 Gatling was a .58 caliber weapon firing from individually-loaded brass or steel chambers, which were fed into the receiver via a hopper or chute attached to the side of the gun's housing. As a result, the gun's rate of fire was significantly slower than is shown in the film. The guns shown in the movie were models of 1867 or later, which were chambered for fixed ammunition, usually 45/70 and fed through a stick magazine on the top of the weapon's receiver.

I felt the same when I first saw it, and never get tired of seeing it...Saw it in a really cool old Deco style movie theater built in the 30s when it was first released.

I love how Clint puts alot of the same character actors in his movies, Another Classic! Saw at the drive in , back in my small north Texas town that had one theater and two drive in theaters, thanks Sammy!
I love this movie. It's a tossup between this one and Gran Torino for me as Eastwood's best. There's another film sort of along the same lines called Death Hunt starring Lee Marvin and Charles Bronson. You should definitely check it out as well.
Of the CE movies you mentioned, HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER is probably my least favorite. It was pretty good, but to me it seemed like a retelling of SHANE with a preacher instead of a gun fighter. Favorite Josey Wales line. Paraphrasing, but its basically dyings easy, livin's the hard part. If you've never seen SHANE, give it a watch.
I apologize if someone already mentioned this, but it looks like a shrunken gunslinger is menacing you with a pistol in his right hand, while plucking one of your beard hairs with his left hand. It's been a while since a thumbnail caused me to laugh so hard.
"The Union is probably in cahoots." ...Yes. They're red legs, Jayhawkers. They're pro-union guerillas. That's what a red leg is. (well, pro-US Army guerillas. Strictly speaking they weren't for the UNION as they were frequently themselves free-staters, but they fought on the union side)
Your perception is way out of whack. You seem to have no appreciation of the pre- and post-Civil War context of the bloodshed in and around Missouri. Similarly, the bounty hunters; it wasn’t greed. They had no other way to make a living in a severely damaged post-war economy.

Clint Eastwood has a rule named after him ... how can this guy get any less "COOL!"
I know, right? That is why he comes with his own "Legendary Director" Fact.
Go in Peace and Walk with God. 😎 👍
Clint really knew how to make a film very early on. He's one of the most underrated American directors of all time.
Agreed! I'm curious about his non-western pictures too, any recommendations? 😀

This is my favorite western, followed by unforgiven then the shootist
Have yet to check out "The Shootist"
Outlaw Josey Wales is a blast.
Agree!
Saw this on the big screen back in 1976 and knew it was going to be a classic within the first 15 minutes. That's how good this movie is!!
WOW! That must have been an epic screening 😆 Thanks for sharing!

My favorite by Clint by far
Really Great Revenge film before kill bill and john wick
Was Clint Eastwood ever in a bad movie?
😅 Not to my knowledge ... every picture seen thus far has been great!
Revenge of the Creature, a horror movie from the Fifties. He’s in one scene as a lab assistant. A “funny” scene that really isn’t. Lol
What I like about this movie is that many of the characters were real people. We in Missouri still don't like those people in Kansas😉😉
So true!
What’s great about all of Clint’s shootings in any of his movies is how methodical he is, doesn’t rush or is super fast just really accurate
Agreed! All the action is very clearly discernible
He's faster than 'lasses in wintertime!

You got to respect that snake oil salesman. He actually got that spit stain out with that stuff he’s selling!!
Then you cut the second about buzzards & worms. I am done. 👎

WOAH! This would have been epic to see at a drive-in!
Hello Sammy
I love the 'Godzilla 2000' poster! I went to a DRIVE-IN to see it when it came out!!
No way! That's possibly the best way to see any epic film! Have yet to see it though 😅

This movie has some of the most iconic lines in cinema history, and you cut the first one. smh

I'm sorry, movie I meant was PALE RIDER, not HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER. Sorry for the confusion.

Love any movie with Clint Eastwood in it even if it is not 1 of his best. Legend in Cinema !!! Thanks Sammy !
