I'm Canadian and I was there when Will benched 885 pounds. It was ordered by the Prime Minister of Canada that every Canadian attend the lift. There were over 30 million people in attendance that can verify that lift.
I’m from Nova Scotia, I remember exactly where we were when we received the notice to attend “the lift”. A cold day but the cheers of the crowd warmed me from the inside. I’ll never forget the day Will Sasso benched 885 pounds.

I went to high school with Sasso, hes telling the truth. He had so much weight on the bar that we had to duct tape extra plates on just to get to 885. If we had a bigger bar laying around he easily could have done 900

Even more remarkable is the fact that when Sasso did 885, they didn’t have the smaller size plates to make the weight even, so he did the lift with 440 on one side and 445 on the other.
Legendary.

I’m American and I remember the stories my dad would tell, they’ve been passed down for generations. But to make it quick, the stories were about silent wars between the American government and Canadian government at the borders in the early 1700’s. And one by one, they slaughtered each American in hand to hand combat, no one knows just how many brothers there were. Some think there is a man in the Sasso lineage that has the power of each brother combined. But to this day, so few American ancestors speak on these battles because of the inherent fear we have.
