Bacon, you caught me off guard when you removed that Aurora using certain terraforming mod, haha. Also when you reached to the point when terraformer stopped working properly, that means you have reached at the edge of bottom void. It does not work very well when applied to edge of map like those.

So, while it isn't exactly the "Hell Hole" of old, I have a suspicion that the idea of it eventually wound up becoming the Mountains Corridor of the Lost River, especially since it's one of two areas to contain an entrance to the ILZ. Plus, while not as hellish, the drop from the Bulb Zone/Mountains into the Lost River definitely reminds me of the old hole. The kicker is that is is only a bit north of the Aurora, on the border of the Mountains and Bulb Zone, so it's location also roughly matches up too.
I reached the "backrooms" even without any glitches, on the latest patch. I thought there'd be some kind of secret or easter egg down the vertical cliff of the crater, and I went down to almost the max depth of the cyclops, stopping a couple of times to repair reaper damage. Then I realized the collision of the cliff had ended, and it was so dark I needed sonar pings to see anything. I could go under the map, and all of those rectangular shapes were there, with collision. It was actually tricky to navigate back because the sonar pings have a limited range so it's kind of fumbling in the dark for a while and without any landmarks. Its strange that ive never seen footage quite like it.
I know you said the Hell Hole is busted. But My head-canon says it's only busted because the Aurora made the actual hole collapse and not just simply cover it. True or false, it's just something I keep in the back of my head for lore sake.
I was sad when unknown worlds removed the terraformer as I thought it was a super unique tool... and then I watch this video and completely understand why they did it...
you can reach that backrooms I think.... if you go into a certain corner over at the sea emp, the walls unload and I think speedy glitched into something like that when messing with it. or maybe I just confused it with your old trips.
I remember the hell hole! I used to take my seamoth down the hole and into the inactive lava zone but the devs removed the hole before the final release of Subnautica. The first I discovered it, I freaked out.
