Hey everyone! I've updated the video description with the downloads. Please take note of the instructions in the video. There's obviously a lot of unfinished stuff in the demo, but I think everyone can still have some fun playing it. I made some last minute changes this morning without testing, but hopefully it'll be fine! I'll be back in a few days where I'll talk about the demo and you'll get a chance to offer your feedback. Merry Christmas!!!
Haha, ikr! That is an AI's vision of Alucard and Richter (or was it Dracula, I can't remember) giving Christmas gifts. It's always the fingers it has trouble with...
@@PigsysRetroGameDevTutorials To be fair, a lot of artists have trouble drawing hands too, imo, aside from the face, hands are the hardest part of the human body to draw. Especially if you're going for a realistic style. They're also the most expressive part of the body aside from the face.
Damn, I knew I should have packed my Sega Nomad on my bad when I left. Now I'll have to wait until I get home to try this. Anyway, Merry Christmas and thank you for the demo!!! Have a great one.
Thank you very much for this Christmas gift, Pigsy man. And merry Christmas! Muito obrigado por esse presente de Natal, Pigsy meu chapa. E feliz Natal para você e sua família! 🎁🎄🎅
A belated merry Christmas Pigsy! I haven't had a chance to play the demo yet, but from everything I saw in Inglebard's footage during your interview, it looks like phenomenal work (and great job in the interview, btw). Can't wait to play it. Hope you have a happy and enjoyably productive new year!
The accuracy of the sound is phenomenal! My only criticism would be that the jumping feels a little floaty and it makes some of the platforming harder than it should be. If the control could be tightened up to something closer to Bloodlines it would be great. Overall, amazing presentation and there were moments where I forgot I was playing a Megadrive version.
Thank you (and the crew) for this demo AND the entire project. The way this is shaping up, it may well become not just the ultimate Castlevania on the MegaGen, but on a 16-bit platform!
this is amazing! its come a really long way and the results are incredible. i don't want to spoil anything so i'll hold my comments until later, but really great work.
Thanks mate, pretty incredible for a homebrew project. I’m really amazed you got it running as good as it already does, I’m sure it’ll only improve over time. The graphics & sound are also amazing, considering the hardwate you have to work with. Will be really looking forward to see the next step in the ecolution. Keep it up & again thanks for the awesome work
Thank you pigsy, the project in general is very formidable and I am always atonished by your accomplishments! happy Noche Buena and Navidad to you too! PD: I've noticed that the scrolling is a bit jittery, it shakes around, does this have to do with the refresh rate or something? for some reason in a certain part of the second stage the enemies become all red, I am using kega fusion btw.
I tested it on a Retrooad using the MD adapter on an Everdrive on a CRT TV 🤣... the strangeness when I turned on the game created in me a kind of vision of a world in which SOTN actually came out for the Sega console at that time . The soundtrack using the Mega Drive's audio chip along with the graphics and the way the game moves like an "old" game made me "happily uncomfortable" in a positive way, because this game wasn't a reality in the 90s when I first played the console, but now it...exists! Your work is amazing, impressive, and perfectly proves that the mastery of technology allows us to recover a kind of forgotten power in these consoles that were once powerful. I tested the "unstable" version, but it looked and played very stable, i tested it for hours and hours and no crashes. Cheers from Brazil!
What a wonderful Christmas present! Thank you Pigsy! Here's my pro's and con's for the Demo: Pros: - Graphics (great conversion to lower colors!) - Sound (sound was good) - Music (music was a good translation to the genesis music chip!) - Gameplay (felt pretty close to Sotn) Cons: - No wall chicken - I WANT MORE!!!!!
It's been awesome to see this channel and project grow. (Shinobi as well) It's become important to me. It is more than just a sotn gens port. Merry Christmas to everyone!
Absolutely nailing the audio and visuals! This looks like an extremely promising port project and no doubt took quite an effort to make it this far. Looking forward to more progress and best of luck on finishing it!
nice demo. interesting to see the development over the time. sweet to see we have savage regime here too. Looking forward to more updates, thanks a lot. talking about gameplay, maybe movement could cancel some animations to make things smoother. the collision box of ceiling blocks and stairs could be higher. about the bugs. haha fun to see them. most of them happen when something changing stage or dying while there's projectiles on screen. happy holidays.
I played this on my Sony Trinitron CRT via hdmi to component adapter using retroarch. I have been waiting to play this on a CRT since I heard about the project. It looks and sounds incredible as I knew it would. Thanks Pigsy for this demo, I look forward to the finished game in the future.
Just tried in emulator, and your work is amazing. Will try in real hardware later, but I assume it would be great. Good job man, I really admire what you do. Thanks for your work
The demo is amazing! Thank you so much for some Mega Drive goodness to enjoy during this holiday. I have some feedback. I'm sure you are aware of most of the issues, but here goes anyway. Overall, the presentation is very solid. Pyron has done an excellent job in converting the graphics to the Mega Drive palette. The contrast is very good, which is hard to pull off with dark games on the Mega Drive. Some small exceptions are the very red skeleton enemy, and (I think) on the same stage the backdrop colour is a strong pink, which doesn't fit as well as black on most of the other stages (there is another stage later which also has a brighter pink, which looks like a "dev" temporary colour though). What the graphics is missing is mostly animations in both the backgrounds, and on enemy movement and feedback (hurt and death animations or colour flashes). The music is mostly excellent, my favourite conversion is without doubt Savage Regime's Marble Gallery theme. The sound effects and samples are also very good. Hope you can fit them all on the final version. Since it won't be a cart release, maybe you can expand the ROM with bank switching to fit more content? Gameplay is mostly very solid. Alucard feels a bit clunky, but if you plan your moves carefully you'll manage. The levels are fun to play for the most part, but some annoying platform jumps were there. But it's part of the genre and series, so... I like the sub-weapons, though the holy water didn't move, however the high damage it caused made up for it. Bosses are fun to fight. I think they could be balanced a bit, which is natural at this stage though. Overall I was very pleasantly surprised with all the content and overall quality. Great job, and thanks again! Can't wait for the upcoming video on new homebrew games for the Mega Drive!
Meu Amigo esse jogo mesmo inacabado com bugs esta Lindo muito bem feito coisa de Profissional! Gráficos musica e efeito sonoro excelente PARABÉNS! FELIZ NATAL
