Tan delta testing and it's basics including safety instructions

  • It's the basic guidance for tan delta test.
    Tan delta = Ir/Ic
    That is the basic equation. Everyone knows this equation.
    What I wanted to focus on is the basic concept of insulators to which acts as a capacitor.
    Basic equations-
    tan δ or D.F = IR/IC
    P.F = IR/(IR+IC)
    Acceptable value of tan δ ≤ 0.007 or 0.7% AT 20̊ C
    tan δ test can be carried out on following equipments-
    Cable
    Transformer oil, winding, bushings
    CVT
    Current transformer
    Any insulator
    Safety points to remember-
    Always ensure proper earthing of the equipment before testing.
    Do not keep the tan δ point open after testing. The open tan δ point may cause rise of potential at the point which will result into flashover & equipment damage further.
    Keep the C.T/CVT secondarys shorted & earthed properly during tan δ testing.

    Best ever explained on you tube ....sir....I want more videos regarding Transformers all testing with details....like magnetic balance, winding resistance, seperate source, induce over voltage, no load, load loss, Impulse, PD etc (all test regarding Transformers).....plz plz....

      Actually what I faced that very few people are interested in protection schemes and theories, but maximum people are interested in testing related procedures.
      That's why I had to upload videos with some basic testing and related topics.

    How the frequency is lowered in the Tan dela kit? Do these machines use PWM techniques?
