- BYU Photo's Jaren Wilkey explains how photographers can use travel routers for wireless ftp setups. Travel routers can help you overcome splash login screens and slow wi-fi networks. Here are the two routers that we have tested:

Choice of battery that isn't too big, but will run the router from 2-4 hours. THanks!
Jaren, this is a great video, thank you!! Please do follow up with a walkthrough video, it’d be a great help!!
This is awesome! i wish I knew about this when I was shooting a lot more. If it could take a SIM card, it would be perfect.
So thankful for BYUPhoto continually sharing valuable content!
Thanks! Let us know what video we should work on next.
yep full walk through will be great
Let’s see that walk through! Very beneficial!
Will my apple wifi express work ??
Any router that can run in relay/repeater mode should work, including the wifi express. We used to use an airport extreme base station in some of our arenas. The advantage of the travel router is that it can be powered by a battery and it is small and portable.
Excellent info as always. Might have missed it in the video or comments but wanted to see it you had a recommendation for the power supply to power the mobile router. On another note, I might be out your way with Lipscomb University volleyball the first weekend of September. Thanks for making all of these great videos and the BYUphotos website - top class.
We use a typical "portable charger" power bank and have noticed the battery lasts pretty well.
Great stuff. Thank you. Would love to see the walkthrough video.
Noted!
Thanks for me teach video and photos
Glad to have you here with us!
so i have a 2 cam set up. one is my A cam and my B cam is on a remote across the stadium. i can cull in cam and bring my files into photo mechanic on my a cam. but how do i select and bring in pics from my b cam. plz do a video about that.
Thank you for doing this video. I’ve been looking for a solution like this for when I shoot Notre Dame football games. I’ve been using the Canon connect app on my phone with less than stellar results in the crowded stadium. This looks like a promising alternative.
Hi jaren, I use the GL-MT300N-V2 model, I am doing very well, although I get the best results with the mini router near me during soccer games, today I should get the model you recommended with the antennas and see if I have any improvements.
thanks always for your sharing.
Emanuele
I was interested in looking at that one too, I'm sure the antennas make a big difference.
@@byuphoto you are right, today I compared the two models and with the same configuration the antennas make a difference...and a lot of difference too
Amazing video as always Jaren!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Just get the canon wft for that canon it’s outside the body increasing signal and u choose each pic u want sent to laptop ??
Unfortunately there is no external Canon WFT for the R3, R5 and R6. The antennas are inside the body and sometimes they are not enough.
Hey jaren. If you could let us know the model of router you mention here that would be helpful. Maybe put in the description of the video. I know you do say it during the video but it would be helpful to have it written too. Thanks.
Added it to the description, we've used both the Slate AX and Beryl AX, the only difference between the two is that the Slate has an extra LAN port.
Thank you!
wouldnt your phone hotspot be easy since nothing to bring but ur phone and use that ?
Most of the time I use the hotspot on my iPhone as the first option, but in a crowded arena/stadium, its getting harder and harder to get a reliable signal, especially on the sidelines. These travel routers allow you to connect to local wifi in the stadium/arena and in many cases are more reliable and have faster throughput than your hotspot. You can also connect to a hardline and create your own network.
