Came here to leave the same comment. Everyone I talk to about GL.iNet is surprised about the capability in the small form. Plus it has a 2.5gb port for little money!
This needs to be battery-powered and support sim cards, plus have an esim store where you can buy data for specific countries. Currently, I can't see any benefit to me when I'm travelling because I would need to use someone else's internet to get online. Usually there is no public internet available so having a sim/esim is very much needed.
sorry what do you mean battery powered? did you not see he used a battery bank and said he charged it through the tesla. What sort of battery power are you thinking off?
@@yhoda145it needs its own internal battery, you shouldn’t need to have a battery pack too, or a wall plug as pretty much anytime I travel I end up without a wall plug nearby
I have and I absolutely love it. The only issue I am having is when I have a mifi unit plugged Into the usb a port on the Asus to provide Internet n charge the mifi unit it doesn't seem to be able to pass the internet thru when the Asus is being powered by a power bank. It however the Asus can get internet from the mifi when the Asus is plugged into mains electricity
Looks nice, but similar price to the Slate AX and it's got a better CPU and Tailscale/Zerotier support. A comparison between the two would be interesting.
Did the exact same thing. I have another travel router, but there's some useful features on this that the other router doesn't have and so I was sold very quickly.
Great review. Bought. Been looking at a few other options including some mentioned here but the free security features on this worth the extra. Great for smart devices like fire sticks and Alexa when taking them on holiday.
Can someone help me I’ve got toon installed and it makes my network double Nat so I have to test it everytime for it to change. I’ve done all the normal stuff to try and make it work. Does anyone have a clue how to sort it ? Thanks
I have a raspberry pi setup as my “travel” router which can do all this at a budget option. The only downside is for the non tech savvy people this method is less user friendly than the Asus device.
What's the point of this video...Why would use outside AP? Do you have your phone with Hotspot. And why would someone bring a router outside ? UNLESS... This is for Van Life
Let's say you're on the road a lot. Doesn't matter the reason why. Instead of setting up your laptop/switch/other internet accessible gadgets for each location, you can just connect to the RT-AX57 Go, and just modify the settings there. If you travel with kids or others, it more useful to have a connection their devices already knows and trust rather than trying to get everyone connected to the new location. You could also attach devices to the other usb/ethernet connection, so an external usb drive can become more of a nas. A lot of these devices also can act like firewalls, so it's extra security from random wifi that could have security issues. And this is just the device as a router. And as he said, it can work as a repeater or AP, who's price is much cheaper than a lot of the others currently on the market (wifi 6 AP for decent specs seem to cost around $80, about the same price as the RT-AX57 Go), so you're getting more functionality for basically the same price. Now, I'm not saying get this product. But if you do go away from home at least a couple times a year and want to have a network you trust, this is a helpful device.
The GL-Inet is cheaper smaller and better !!
Agreed

I've got a few Beryl AX devices, they're great for travelling
Was going to say same he clearly not done his research. Gli net device are the boss!!
Love them 😊
Why not connect your Macbook to BT WiFi and use the wireguard client for Mac to connect back home? Surely quicker and a lot less faff.
Basically any GL.iNet device but from Asus.
Exactly, came here to say exactly that yet GL.iNet still seems better
@@joegr0ssit runs openwrt under the hood which is an awesome firmware
Actually lost this channel for about 6 years back with this video hope you are doing good. Your big moosehead at your setup was dope.

Next door neighbour be like nobody has our superior EE broadband speeds,Techflow be like”OH REALLY”lol ,cheers fella 👍
Looks nice but the mikrotik hAP ax lite is somewhat better and with more juice to give (only downside is no usb)
Those EE wifi hotspots aren't free
This is just Tailscale with more steps.
he's gotta make the video more than 3 minnutes long I guess :P
When in repeater mode, can it broadcast a completely different SSID and password than the wifi it is repeating?
Use it as fallback with unifi and your mobile phone as hotspot to connect to

which mifi you use?
How did you get back into the browsers settings when in wisp mode? I couldn't back after i just changed to wisp when in my hotel.

this router vs GL inet's Beryl AX?
Gl.iNet Beryl AX is amazing!
Alex how does this compare to the Beryl AX?
Could you connect to your sky q main box with this with a faster enough upload at home
I can do that with Mikrotik hAP AX2 router :)
But the learning curve is much steeper
I’ve never been so sold on something so quickly before in my life, already purchased and on the way before the video ended 😂

Same. Well worth it for fire stick etc and smart speakers that have trouble with landing pages.
Yeah I did the same when I saw another review. Yeah I also have other travel routers but saw this and needed to try @@Mr.Bayliss
Pretty decent device to use as a travel device.
I am in Canada it’s about 179 Canada not bad price

I wish I had neighbors like yours 😂
and what's the magic in that? you could have put the wireguard config directly on your laptop....

Not a bad little find that. Quite cool.
10:34 those won't work. asus device requires 9 volts.
It is not much better than what a Beryl AX or the Puli AX that has 5G and a battery does.
Love my Spitz AX!

What is quid currency??
Quid is slang for British pound sterling
Quid is a slang term for pounds. It's a bit like Americans saying 'bucks'.

Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. “There’s nothing this can’t do” - lies, you can’t put a SIM card in it which is a pretty big fail.
