Will LEGO ever make a Dark Saver mold? Will the instructions ever go back to their former glory and stop looking like cheap knockoffs? All these questions and more (probably never answered because LEGO Star Wars team doesn’t answer questions we care about).
It's totally accurate to that episode where bald Mando forgets his cape, has to borrow a different jetpack, and waves a black stick around in frustration. The same episode where the N-1 wasn't finished and before it was polished up, and they'd forgotten to paint the underside. The attention to detail is remarkable.
Honestly, it IS very annoying when designers do stuff that is just completely off/wrong with a set, but whenever Ryan says "only the best is good enough" to something in the set, I just start bursting out laughing 😂
My biggest qualm with this set is that it's not all tiled and sloped off. The N1 starfighter is one of the sleekest ships, and when you're working in that small of a scale, studs make the surface look textured and greebled. As well, a metallic silver brick would match the actual finish of the starfighter a lot better than gray.
It’s not supposed to be completely tiled and sloped off. If you watch the show, it kind of has that unfinished, just came out of the workshop look to it. It’s actually accurate to the real thing. Unlike most LEGO Star Wars sets these days lmao
It just doesn’t capture the “sleekness” of even mando’s cobbled-together N1 in my opinion. I definitely think this could be sent back 15 years and not look too out of place.
true, the bubble of grogu stands more out, the 2 blasters are way closer to each other, the wings arent straight but have a decent ankel downwards and the front of the two engines is just bahhhh :/ if u wane see an more acurate UCS version feel free to check out mine, ( 8th latest video...)
What was needed was the shiny silver pieces and the design so it's completely smooth on the wings. 100x better and lastly all silver and not dark gray.
I am kind of baffled at the size, too. Of all the ships to be affected by Lego's trend of downsizing Star Wars sets, you'd think it would be this one. The N1 especially, since in-universe these things are tiny. I'm not really hooked on the price either, since past N1 sets at least had a ground crew and droid squad to also pad out the set, this one doesn't.
I think their mind is on the idea that tanks, fighters and other vehicles are kids toys. With the exception of these larger pieces. This is kinda an odd one out. Compared to the Tfighters and Xwing as well as the tanks so far. It is almost meant as a collectible. Which it basically is. Even the stud shooter is totally built in. Which usually gets slapped on.
The ship does no justice to the Razor Crest but it’s still a really cool set! I’ll definitely be picking this up and be adding it to my Mandalorian set collection, even though it is a Book of Boba Fett based set.

Loved the concept of a new Naboo fighter. Love the new headpiece. But the instruction, non fleshed out wings, cockpit with so many openings, dark saber and lack of chrome makes this a skip for me
I feel as they will probably turn it into a ucs set as they did with the original n1 starfighters with chrome so i think that's why they have left the chrome out also making it chrome could be quite expensive
I think I struggle with this set because it needs more plate to look sleek and smooth like it does in the show. Plus I really wish they would do a metallic silver helmet for Mando.
I have seen other fan made designs that have aspects that I think are more accurate, but overall I love mine (just got it a couple days ago) and 100% agree - the model is surprisingly large! I didn't expect it to be that big honestly. I feel like Lego has been getting smaller in size and more money, but this is a decent size with a fair amount of heft to it! I just need to make me a sweet stand for it now... and maybe add some LEDs...

Have to pass on this one for 60 dollars. There are so many little things LEGO could do to entice a collector to part with an extra few bucks but in this case they fell short. Maybe if it goes on sale somewhere in the future. Also I wish they would stop using mini figs as a ‘carrot on a stick’ means to get us to pay more. I get it on some, but it’s not the only reason to buy a new set.
It's definitely strange that they used the 41948 plate in medium nougat. Not that there was a better color choice already available for it (maybe light aqua?), but it looks likes they could have used a 22888 (plate, round half 4 x 8) and a 3035 (plate, 4 x 8) instead, both of which do come in in both light and dark bluish gray. The pieces directly attached above and below would have crossed the seam line, giving it plenty of rigidity. Based on current prices, it would be about $1 to buy the two.
@@Smarty7752 No, the two new pieces placed edge-to-edge exactly equal the current part. Doing that creates a seam across the part that isn't currently there (it like you cut it or broke it along that line), which could potentially weaken it. However, as I mentioned, there are pieces on top and below it that would cross the seam (i.e., they would connect with both new pieces), so it should be plenty strong.
I feel like they should have included a hairpiece for mando. He's not bald so having the printed face (while nice) without a hairpiece is rather pointless?

YES! Since the leak I've been saying they bounced the price up $20 just for the BD droid as a finger to the people wanting Fallen Order sets and calling them out for the double-standard of saying FO was "too violent" when other series like Jurassic Park/World, Indiana Jones, and even other Star Wars things have more violent scenes in them that ALREADY were made into sets. They KNOW we're gonna buy this set just for BD, because they're never gonna make another one with it, and it is *BUNK*
Just funny how ninjago can get new molds and new colors, even translucent, for every new series but meanwhile we get the same black bar piece that has been used for the darksaber for about 10 years now. Other than that, I like this set. I honestly like large sets that aren’t minifigure scale as it makes the price more worth it.
It's because like this, Ninjago always gets new molds because you can't take a simple piece and say it's a sword, like game controls / ninja weapons, you couldn't do that with just a single piece. But even so, Lego owed that due attention to Star Wars weapons like the Darksaber, just like it does with Ninjago. Sorry if there's a typo, I'm a Brazilian.
I like how you point out even the small mistakes. From this much money, only the best is good enough. Not having a proper darksaber is outrageous at this point. It's unfair! They could have at least use the Katana-hilt (Lightsaber Hilt Short with Ridges), recolor it black, if they are so cheap on making a new mold. Or even a regular lightsaber hilt in black. On the other hand, using a simple black rod is lame. There should be a glossy finish on that piece, or use trans-black. I skipped all the mandalorian sets so far because of such mistakes, at least we have a head for him now. Not sure I'll buy the set though, it should be better.
12:46 That is a really good thing for this set. I own the 2015 version, and the back part of the fin always snaps off. It might be because of the sets old age, but it's very annoying. This new version is a great improvement!
As someone who doesn’t thank a Grogu figure yet, and loved the initial design of this ship… I’m still buying it, especially with Din Djarins face finally showing up!
8:10 that might have been an effort to create the grime lines in the bottom. As you can see in the image you provided in the video it does have a substantial amount of engine grease looking grime and dirt on it. Maybe they assumed that since he's been living on Tatooine for a bit that the sands would have caked into that dirt and made it a lighter color, or maybe they just figured brown is a decent grease color.
This is a set I had little interest in at first being partial to the Razor Crest, but now I can't wait to get it. The size is impressive and somehow the Lego version of the ship looks cooler to me than it did on TV. And with Mando and Grogu in the ship it just looks great. I like Peli a lot on the show and I always welcome a new droid. I just wish they would have provided a hairpiece for Mando, but that's my only gripe. Agree that it doesn't feel like it's overpriced which is rare with Lego lately.
I'll hold out hope for yet another significant moment for mandolorian season 3 that will have a helmetless scene to justify giving us a set with a hairpiece for djinn
It doesn't have to do with cost savings. They just put a different liquid into the same mold. It's so you can tell the pieces apart easier when building. Take the 7662 MTT, for instance. Some of the reddish brown is replaced with dark bluish-gray to tell the pieces apart better. This was later made a bit better in the 75058 MTT, where the replacement color is dark brown instead.
I really like this set. I think it’s a little bare-bones, but it’s nice! Although, it’s $10 too much imo. And I wish they’d use that Ninjago sword piece for the Dark-Saber. I mean, it exists, so the “not enough time” excuse is void. Also, I think that Mando’s head is a new color? Can anyone confirm or deny?

@@Jay-Zech I used a black sword that came in the 2012 Jabbas palace used for the Bo’mar monks. I cut the handle short and stuck it in a black hilt like you. Looks pretty darn accurate

I think the front of the droid doesn’t have enough print. It looks way to bare and if I hadn’t been familiar with Jedi fallen order I would have never guessed what that was. But I think the set looks ok, I think it could have Benefited from more tiled off wings but I still think this set is good

I just don't understand why they go with the dark gunmetal for the jetpack.. its a simple 1 color piece; there is absolutely no reason it shouldn't be silver like the rest of him

@@vampiresquid74 sorry for miscommunicating. The reddish brown pauldron is from the 2010 Boba Fett, the jet pack I believe was only from Jango Fett and an Advent Calendar mini build.
2:30 my thought for a darksaber was, remember that Ninjago blade pack that had those daggers, hooks, and katana blades without handles? Well what if we had that in black and used that on a silver lightsaber handle or the Ashoka lightsaber handle
for the booster, what I did to make it more sturdy was replace the 4L axle with a 7L and the green 2x3 with two 1x2 technic bricks (one keyed and one smoothbore) and two 1x1 bricks. On the keyed brick I put two 1x1 plates on, put all that together in the original mounting thing, put THAT back on the ship then just inserted the axle. Now it won't pop off :D
My better half got me this for V-day!! $47.99 on sale. I would totally agree, it is bigger than expected considering the part count. I am having a slight problem displaying it as I did not anticipate it's length LOL.
Good review, fair criticisms and observations, they need to clean up that design on the bottom and strengthen the engine/exhaust. A Big shame a $60 set has so many flaws. The $50 X-Wing recently was not all that durable too, very fragile for a "play, not display" set. LEGO doesn't want to improve much of that it seems.
Does grogu fit in the middle compartment? It eould be cool if so because then you can convert the bubble back into a droid attachment like in season 3 with R-5
Just built this last night myself after picking it up for $50 at the local walmart. The size is definitely a bit of a surprise given the last N-1 I built was the original when I was a kid. My biggest gripe personally is while the ship is long and "beefy" I'm surprised they couldn't do a little better with fully enclosing Mando's cockpit area. The bubble and overall look is nice, but even just using a corner brick there instead of the rounded on the front half would have done a lot to appease this for me personally. I've also noticed the bubble runs into the canopy piece when closing it so again I think a single brick's width there would have done nicely. Agree with MandR that the engines are the best detailed bits of the ship and were fun to build! The overall lack of symetry scattered throughout the set was a nice touch as well.
That dark orange (or is it dark naugat) is used to make it look old and worn down. This set was announced right after the end of book of boba fett, so it looks like another case of disney didnt informerd lego correctly
I like the look and playability of this set, will definitely be getting it. The dark saber excuse is getting old…but they FINALLY included a jet pack. 👍 I’m totally fine with all the environmental stuff. Good move to go to paper bags, it’s the responsible thing to do with the state of the oceans. Happy over all with this direction and quality of set for the price point. Thanks for the review!
Will be picking this up, one of my favorite episodes when he gets it’s built and definitely a car guy episode but Star Wars. The N1 in universe really a power house in Star Wars and it got hot rod
I modified mine off your video i made the engine stay on better and i made the gap smaller and the cockpit bigger so that he could have his jet pack while he is inside because i made it slide open and i added a different thing to shoot the missile O and i also made the bubble and some of the back look better
Off the top of my head there's the basic lightsaber, Dooku, Ventress, Inquisitor, and the Monkey Kid staff that hasn't been used as a lightsaber hilt yet but should be for Maul.

I think as a community we're feeling the effects of inflation on legos. It's going to take some time to adjust but things are just getting more expensive.
It was a pass for me. I went with a more show accurate MOC for half the price (Of course I'm not a LEGO purist and go for what's most accurate) and added my own Mando and Grogu mini-figs
I don't know seeing what the MOC community has done with Mando's N1 and seeing what lego is putting out. I personally think Lego was being lazy in designing this set. There are WAY better MOCs out there then what this set is. When I heard lego was coming out with it I was excited until I saw it and decided to go with A MOC set.
Well they also “didn’t have enough time” last summer for the Imperial Light Cruiser…. And then they had another year to do this and didn’t. They clearly weren’t working on it so I’d guess they aren’t working on it now.
It’s funny this is a boba fett set just because of the circumstances. Makes me wish we got a Corvus set with Ahsoka and the magistrate for mando season 2. Couldve been a little build of the bridge where they fight, give us Ahsoka, magistrate, hk87 droid and mando.
Wish we got a smaller starfighter for $40 (even smaller than previous N1 starfighters) and get a very nice and sleek model. Another strange decision that doesn't make a lot of sense by Lego. Regardless, still not bad and I will definetly be picking it up in 6-8 months when it's 20% off.

Lego gets cheaper but the prices stay the same. I wonder what it cost lego to make the set. I know they have taxes on manufacturing and "light bills", but still. They included the tan/orange piece on the bottom as an homage to Luke's Landspeeder just to troll everyone.

Yeah they did the same with kylo ren in the new (old now but newer of the two) command shuttle. Really weird choice from Lego

As someone who doesn’t thank a Grogu figure yet, and loved the initial design of this ship… I’m still buying it, especially with Din Djarins face finally showing up!
i am awaiting a future set that will give mando a hairpiece, but this is a good first step!

8:10 that might have been an effort to create the grime lines in the bottom. As you can see in the image you provided in the video it does have a substantial amount of engine grease looking grime and dirt on it. Maybe they assumed that since he's been living on Tatooine for a bit that the sands would have caked into that dirt and made it a lighter color, or maybe they just figured brown is a decent grease color.
Lego used that bottom piece to promote the great and very requested Luke’s landspeeder. Lol
The instructions look awful. Why would LEGO take away all the colour and background??? I doubt they fix it, based on past experiences
This is a set I had little interest in at first being partial to the Razor Crest, but now I can't wait to get it. The size is impressive and somehow the Lego version of the ship looks cooler to me than it did on TV. And with Mando and Grogu in the ship it just looks great. I like Peli a lot on the show and I always welcome a new droid. I just wish they would have provided a hairpiece for Mando, but that's my only gripe. Agree that it doesn't feel like it's overpriced which is rare with Lego lately.
I'll hold out hope for yet another significant moment for mandolorian season 3 that will have a helmetless scene to justify giving us a set with a hairpiece for djinn
It doesn't have to do with cost savings. They just put a different liquid into the same mold.
It's so you can tell the pieces apart easier when building. Take the 7662 MTT, for instance. Some of the reddish brown is replaced with dark bluish-gray to tell the pieces apart better. This was later made a bit better in the 75058 MTT, where the replacement color is dark brown instead.
Just a note to say - Every review I've seen of this set (inc this one) has Peli Motto's belt piece upside down !
I really like this set. I think it’s a little bare-bones, but it’s nice! Although, it’s $10 too much imo.
And I wish they’d use that Ninjago sword piece for the Dark-Saber. I mean, it exists, so the “not enough time” excuse is void. Also, I think that Mando’s head is a new color? Can anyone confirm or deny?
For the darksaber, I used a black sharpee on a gold ninjago sword lol, and cut the grip very short so it would fit on a black lightsaber hilt
@@DanielTheDuncan I just used an old black sword from 2012, they don’t make them anymore, but they used to. Although, I’m no stranger to the “sharpie method” lol. I mean, are you really a Lego fan if you’ve never done that?😂

@@Jay-Zech I used a black sword that came in the 2012 Jabbas palace used for the Bo’mar monks. I cut the handle short and stuck it in a black hilt like you. Looks pretty darn accurate

Honestly i think it’s more accurate that Mando’s star fighter doesn’t perfectly line up with the Naboo one because it’s not supposed to, it’s supposed slightly different since it’s modified
The skin tone they used for Pedro Pascal is the same as the Wooden Jack Sparrow polybag, lol

My one gripe with Peli is that mid-legs would've worked better, since she is on the shorter side compared to Mando

I think the front of the droid doesn’t have enough print. It looks way to bare and if I hadn’t been familiar with Jedi fallen order I would have never guessed what that was. But I think the set looks ok, I think it could have Benefited from more tiled off wings but I still think this set is good

It is an issue. Same problem here but the other way, own the slave I and Mando have the cloak but no jetpack....
I just realized that Bobas armor colors on the box art is more accurate to boba than the actual boba figure

I just don't understand why they go with the dark gunmetal for the jetpack.. its a simple 1 color piece; there is absolutely no reason it shouldn't be silver like the rest of him
I specifically bricklinked a silver jetpack and the pauldron from the 2010 Boba Fett figure for my Mando.

@@vampiresquid74 sorry for miscommunicating. The reddish brown pauldron is from the 2010 Boba Fett, the jet pack I believe was only from Jango Fett and an Advent Calendar mini build.

2:30 my thought for a darksaber was, remember that Ninjago blade pack that had those daggers, hooks, and katana blades without handles? Well what if we had that in black and used that on a silver lightsaber handle or the Ashoka lightsaber handle
for the booster, what I did to make it more sturdy was replace the 4L axle with a 7L and the green 2x3 with two 1x2 technic bricks (one keyed and one smoothbore) and two 1x1 bricks. On the keyed brick I put two 1x1 plates on, put all that together in the original mounting thing, put THAT back on the ship then just inserted the axle. Now it won't pop off :D

The new face print for Mando looks amazing! It seems that the downward shifted print for the helmet has returned for some people.

My better half got me this for V-day!! $47.99 on sale. I would totally agree, it is bigger than expected considering the part count. I am having a slight problem displaying it as I did not anticipate it's length LOL.
That Mando head is a new color introduced this year! It is 371 Warm Tan.
Good review, fair criticisms and observations, they need to clean up that design on the bottom and strengthen the engine/exhaust. A Big shame a $60 set has so many flaws. The $50 X-Wing recently was not all that durable too, very fragile for a "play, not display" set. LEGO doesn't want to improve much of that it seems.
Does grogu fit in the middle compartment? It eould be cool if so because then you can convert the bubble back into a droid attachment like in season 3 with R-5
Just built this last night myself after picking it up for $50 at the local walmart. The size is definitely a bit of a surprise given the last N-1 I built was the original when I was a kid. My biggest gripe personally is while the ship is long and "beefy" I'm surprised they couldn't do a little better with fully enclosing Mando's cockpit area. The bubble and overall look is nice, but even just using a corner brick there instead of the rounded on the front half would have done a lot to appease this for me personally. I've also noticed the bubble runs into the canopy piece when closing it so again I think a single brick's width there would have done nicely. Agree with MandR that the engines are the best detailed bits of the ship and were fun to build! The overall lack of symetry scattered throughout the set was a nice touch as well.
That dark orange (or is it dark naugat) is used to make it look old and worn down. This set was announced right after the end of book of boba fett, so it looks like another case of disney didnt informerd lego correctly

I like the look and playability of this set, will definitely be getting it. The dark saber excuse is getting old…but they FINALLY included a jet pack. 👍
I’m totally fine with all the environmental stuff. Good move to go to paper bags, it’s the responsible thing to do with the state of the oceans.

Will be picking this up, one of my favorite episodes when he gets it’s built and definitely a car guy episode but Star Wars. The N1 in universe really a power house in Star Wars and it got hot rod

I personally liked how it isn’t perfectly symmetrical, because it shows how it was made in a shop instead of in a factory
I modified mine off your video i made the engine stay on better and i made the gap smaller and the cockpit bigger so that he could have his jet pack while he is inside because i made it slide open and i added a different thing to shoot the missile
O and i also made the bubble and some of the back look better
i love this set already! Im happy to see its much bigger than i first thought, so now im 100% sold on it and cant wait to pick it up :)
Really would like LEGO to make new hilts. There's maybe three total? It's a small piece but it'd be neat if we got specialized ones for each Jedi
Off the top of my head there's the basic lightsaber, Dooku, Ventress, Inquisitor, and the Monkey Kid staff that hasn't been used as a lightsaber hilt yet but should be for Maul.

I feel like they could easily make a model based on the Obi-Wan/Luke design, since they share a similar look, and then apply it to both figs - Lego loves cost efficiency

I think as a community we're feeling the effects of inflation on legos. It's going to take some time to adjust but things are just getting more expensive.

It was a pass for me. I went with a more show accurate MOC for half the price (Of course I'm not a LEGO purist and go for what's most accurate) and added my own Mando and Grogu mini-figs

I don't know seeing what the MOC community has done with Mando's N1 and seeing what lego is putting out. I personally think Lego was being lazy in designing this set. There are WAY better MOCs out there then what this set is. When I heard lego was coming out with it I was excited until I saw it and decided to go with A MOC set.

You can just take a katana and paint the blade black with acrylic paint. I suggest putting lack after that. Also use a very small brush

Well they also “didn’t have enough time” last summer for the Imperial Light Cruiser…. And then they had another year to do this and didn’t. They clearly weren’t working on it so I’d guess they aren’t working on it now.

It’s funny this is a boba fett set just because of the circumstances. Makes me wish we got a Corvus set with Ahsoka and the magistrate for mando season 2. Couldve been a little build of the bridge where they fight, give us Ahsoka, magistrate, hk87 droid and mando.
Wish we got a smaller starfighter for $40 (even smaller than previous N1 starfighters) and get a very nice and sleek model. Another strange decision that doesn't make a lot of sense by Lego. Regardless, still not bad and I will definetly be picking it up in 6-8 months when it's 20% off.

Lego gets cheaper but the prices stay the same. I wonder what it cost lego to make the set. I know they have taxes on manufacturing and "light bills", but still. Over the years it definitely seems like Lego is getting more expensive. They can do whatever they want with their prices because they know we won't stop buying. I know I won't.
