The rivalry is culture in the state.

I’m in the Columbia area so I’ll occasionally go downtown and interact with USC students and it’s easier to play along and pull for them than be overly aggressive lol. I initially went for just educational purposes with a slight leaning towards Clemson’s geography because it’s not in be middle of the city, but overtime I grew to appreciate the other things about the school.

Going independent at SC back a few decades and joining the SEC took another decade to get acclimated. IMO, the most underrated rivalry in college football with so many storylines from the beginning to the present.

Clemson was founded on racism. Carolina allowed black students. First black student admitted to South Carolina? Henry E. Hayne in 1873. So yeah, Clemson's founders and supporters weren't going to allow that to stand either. Yes, the sports are a side dish to the actual rivalry.
