All your suggestions are BRILLANTE! It takes a combination of many kinds of comprehensible input like books, songs, games and native speakers over time to achieve fluency for everyone in the family

I intend on starting Beautiful Mundo curriculum in preschool and Spanish with Miss Mason in Kindergarten in addition to all of the more relaxed things we do. My biggest success this far is doing Duolingo for myself to keep my skills sharp and then I find myself speaking Spanish to my kids more often. This fall I’ll be purchasing the Habbi Habbi books in Spanish. They’re an investment but perfect for my almost two year old!

I have definitely been more motivated to keep on working on my Spanish skills ever since these little boys were born and I've had little people to "practice" my Spanish with each day. :)

Heggerty has Spanish curriculum for phonological awareness skills. I've been doing the pre-k with my boys.

I used to watch movies that I had memorized in Spanish. It helped me a lot. Thank you for the reminder ♡

Yes, starting with younger children resources is much, much less intimidating. Picture books are so fun! I'm really enjoying this journey with you. Thank you for sharing it

My grandad said that the best way to learn a language is by getting into the culture. I agree that translation is awesome!!! I agree that language learning is to speak to others

Yes, learning a language can open up the door to so many more relationships!

We’ve started watching Pocoyo as well! It’s great for me even 😂. I struggle the most with listening and comprehending so it’s at my level lol

    • @SevenInAll
      @SevenInAll  3 года назад +1

Pocoyo is awesome for listening practice because the narrator speaks slowly and with a lot of expression, ha! Following only one person speaking is easier than when conversation is bouncing back from one character to another.

Great picks. You’re right that language learning courses alone will not make anyone fluent.
Listening to a lot of real Spanish is essential for learning how to read Spanish aloud. Studying the alphabet and the stresses on words will not be enough to be able to read to children. It will be painfully bad. Don’t ask me how I know 😜
You have inspired me to decide that the next time I order books, I will buy Spanish books.

That's a good point--I came to learning Spanish after studying Chinese and Japanese, so by comparison to those languages, I felt like learning to read Spanish aloud was extremely easy, but you're right, if you don't have Spanish-speaking people in your daily life, it could take a while to get the hang of it. My husband is my secret weapon for all my Spanish skills--I love my "instant dictionary." "Hey honey, how do I say..."

Kudos to you for taking the lead in wanting to raise bilingual children. It’s amazing!! I like to listen to Spanish love songs that are kid appropriate. Like Selena. And they actually like to sing her songs 😅😅

It's a challenging new adventure for me, but I'm grateful to learn and get ideas from moms further along in the journey! Selena songs are classics!

We love the De Colores album from José-Luis Orozco! We also love Simple Songs in Wnglish and I just found out they have Simple Songs Español so now we can hear our favorites in Spanish too.

I loved the starting with books suggestion! When I was in college I used to be able to read Spanish really well, but speaking it was quite a bit more challenging.

I have also found that Spanish is one of those languages that is fairly easy to read...but challenging to speak! I have improved in my speaking a LOT ever since having little boys motivating me to practice speaking every single day.
