HR series engines were only for longitudinal layouts whereas the DE engine was used in tons of FWD-based vehicles like Maxima's/Altimas. 35HR/37VHR engines have a much better head/intake which revs much freely and higher than DE series engines. The HR engine fits the Z34/370z & G37 much better. Looking at my G37s coupe right now which I DIY repairs on it has much more space and is pretty DIY-friendly. Although engine mounts were a ~6hr job on most repair manuals/books, took it to a shop for them.
