  • Seriously, if you don't set your playback to 4k, it looks like shit. RUclips compression is being a real bitch. Anyway, this is the first trailer to our first attempt at a real movie, re-uploaded after the first version got compressed all to hell.

    It's so hard to get people to watch one's film. They expect it to be amateurish because it wasn't made by an established auteur with a large budget. In a lot of cases, those expectations are based on reality: there is a LOT of crap out there. I commend anyone putting a lot of effort into making a film. And this is the opposite of crap! [You're welcome to use that quote when trying to sell the movie!] The trailer succeeded in intriguing me; some cool-looking images in there.

      It's even hard to get people to watch a trailer. There's a billion videos online, and just hoping people blunder into yours isn't the best method...that said, I don't know what is.

      @@Corn_Pone_Flicks I wish I had something useful to say. You're already doing one thing people do to boost their stuff - making videos on a popular topic (Twin Peaks) to bring them to your channel. It baffles me that your TP videos don't get even more views - they're easily among the most well thought-out I've seen, and with some really well-produced segments where you emulate the show. The only thing I can think of to suggest is to make even more Lynch content to build on what you have, and hope more people come to your channel and check out stuff beyond what drew them here.

    • @Corn_Pone_Flicks
      @Corn_Pone_Flicks  3 года назад +1

      I'm quite content, even baffled, at the amount of times my Peaks videos have been seen...what's frustrating is how little everything else is seen. Every time I upload something that's NOT Twin Peaks-related, a number of people unsubscribe, as if they thought I was only going to talk about one subject forever, when I said quite clearly I was finished with the Twin Peaks analysis series over a year ago. I certainly didn't make the Peaks videos assuming they'd draw people in...in fact, I very much was anticipating the reverse. I don't know what happened there, but it's not repeating itself with any other topic.

    • @clauditorium
      @clauditorium 3 года назад

      @@Corn_Pone_Flicks What happened is that you made good videos on a topic that was popular at the time, but for which there wasn't as much analysis available as there is for, say, the Star Wars movies. You've got a LOT of competition there.

    • @Corn_Pone_Flicks
      @Corn_Pone_Flicks  3 года назад

      Not much I can do about that. I like to talk about lots of different things, and make videos based on whatever is interesting to me at the moment. This is a hobby, and I don't intend to treat it like it's a job. I've already got one of those. What's annoying is that it's as if Peaks fans like that show and nothing else.

    Man, this channel is so underrated. From the quality of the content you can see it's made by someone who loves doing it (and does it well) but with the cadence and budget of someone who cannot fully commit to it like other channels do (which is totally understandable, not a critic). Anyway, I just wish you had more views.

    • @Corn_Pone_Flicks
      @Corn_Pone_Flicks  3 года назад +3

      In terms of committing to it, the fact is that I've been making films in one way or another since I was twelve. It's been with me forever. What I don't ever want to commit to is a schedule. As Douglas Adams once remarked, "I love deadlines...I love the whooshing noise they make as they go by."

  • @wingflanagan

    • @Corn_Pone_Flicks
      @Corn_Pone_Flicks  3 года назад +9

      It's hard, yes, but not in the ways I expected. It's easier, I expect, if you aren't trying to do it during a plague. There's also a million special effects in here that shouldn't have been, mostly because of things like "Hey, who's that asshole reflected in the glass over there? It's me, goddamitt!" When you've got a huge deadline bearing down, it's so easy to miss little things like a lens cap sitting in plain view you then have to remove in post.

      I know...I have no idea what's up with that. The original video isn't even in 4k to begin with, but if I didn't upload a 4k export, it really looked like tiles sliding around. This seems to be a new problem-my past videos haven't looked like this in regular HD.

      It's basically done, though I decided to rework the opening scene recently. The resolution may be higher than Inland Empire, but Lynch's lighting is better. Not sure what the size of the channel has to do with anything, though...anyone with a camera can make a film these days...it just takes the will to do it.

    Soundtrack is pretty badass. It definitely realigned my expectations. For pretty obvious reasons, I was expecting this to be a spoof or a flat out comedy just because CPF is funny as hell, so that would have colored my opinion of the images I was seeing, so the music helps set the mood. The lighting and shadows took care of the rest. Well done.

    • @Corn_Pone_Flicks
      @Corn_Pone_Flicks  3 года назад +2

      Comedy is the most obvious approach for short films, but in terms of films I personally like, well, my comedy section is a comparatively small part of my DVD shelves. At the same time, there's still some humor here and there in the film that I think fits into what I'm doing. Have you seen Poltergeist recently? There's parts of that film that are funny as hell.

We had to shoot what we've got at an accelerated pace when our lead actress got a sweet job offer out of state, but now that that deadline's no longer looming, we should go back to being a bit safer. I'd like to get it distributed via streaming if possible, but we'll deal with that later.
