    This Muddy Waters inspired rhythm can be heard on Hendrix's Catfish Blues and another variety on Voodoo Chile Blues. It's very simple, using just a call and response technique to create a conversational feel. In this lesson you'll learn the "call" lick and several "response" licks to use together.

    I've been fighting a hellish tendonitis / tenosynovitis for over two years, I got it from practising fast guitar runs with too much tension in the left hand wrist. I had been playing for some 15 years at that point. I would strongly advice against practicing until feeling pain. Otherwise nice lesson. Love the playing, and the camera angles.

    • @davidb5659
      @davidb5659 4 года назад +4

      Important point! Tendonitis can be pretty horrible. You want to practice to the point of *exhaustion* - not pain. Make sure you recognize the difference. Practice the lick as fast as you can. When your hand gets tired, stop. Next day, do the same. It’s a good idea to use a metronome for these kinds of things. Set the metronome at a speed you can manage without errors. When you do it 3 times without error, kick it up 5 bpm. Repeat. If it ever hurts, STOP!

    Very similar to Jimi"s version of "Catfish Blues". It's here, on RUclips.

    Your teaching skills are so impressive! I can tell you really put alot of work into what you do. Instead of teaching us to play note for note, you give us variations on it and show how to make it your own. You're officially my favorite teacher on RUclips :)

    The part about increasing trill speed, I have a great suggestion for anyone trying to build finger speed and strength especially with Jimi style trills. Most finger exercises neglect the muscles for opening your hand/lifting your fingers and so I suggest a great simple exercise. Get a rubber band, make your hand/fingers into like a sock puppet position, place the rubber band around the ends of your fingers and open/spread your fingers like you're trying to grab/grip a softball/large ball, start off with 5 or 10 repetitions on each hand for about 3 sets, alternating hands between sets. This can vary depending on how resistant your rubber band is, just listen to your body and not overdue anything. I generally aim to find my sweet spot for reps/sets by the amount of "burn" I feel in the muscles on the back of my forearm. (exercise "burn"/fatigue and NOT pain! If anything genuinely hurts I'd recommend stoping immediately).
    Once I found this little exercise I had instant results. What I had been trying to improve over several months with slow minimal gains I achieved in days doing this.
    I really hope this helps someone as much as it helped me! I've been playing 20 years and felt like I reached a ceiling in trill speed and endurance, it was so frustrating! I'm still blown away what an improvement it's made.

    Sounds like Catfish Blues. Also, I've never heard SRV use that 12th fret high E and 15th fret B string bend, but I've heard Jimi go it A LOT! Hendrix also does those bends in Manic Depression.

    This may be for amateurs like myself, but you were once an amateur as well because you weren't born a professional. I won't stop playing no matter how "beginner" or "amateur' level the groove might be. If its groovy and just plain good I'm gonna learn it eventually. I'll just keep what I learn in my pocket and eventually it'll add up to be a lot!!!! I know it!!!!!

    @gr8bluesgtr There was a radio station near where I live that did some kind of thing where they played a bunch of songs from a single CD, and I tuned in right near the end of the Hendrix Blues CD. I went out and bought it shortly after, because it's definitely amazing. Nice lesson - I've figured a good chunk of this out myself, but there are definitely a few new licks in here, and a few tips to better play that which I have figured out.

    This is what happens when one makes silly assumptions and wants to bump one's gums for no real reason. However, for what it's worth, I have been compiling people's interpretations/variations of what Hendrix did (and yes, there are many variations and embellishments out there) and it saves me the time to have to write out the few bars or avoids any copyright issues. Hope that helps.
