Scotty Kilmer Scotty your awesome
My scan tool reads:
No electrical pulse scanned, waited a minute and guess what. ......I dont have a. pulse!!!
Scotty Kilmer almost like my issue... Scott, I have a 2006 hummer H3 I-5 with 127K miles. I have code P00014 and it’s idling rough as well as rough on acceleration. Could it be the timing chain? Don’t hear rattling.
Changed a 04 hyndai had to remove the fans and radiator started up Scotty
Wish you weren’t so far north of me or I’d take my hummer to you. We need more honest mechanics like you. Hello from Mcallen,Tx

I’d argue that the C6 Corvette has been one of the most reliable vehicles I’ve owned.. other than a radiator exploding and a water pump.

A lot!!
All of it

Dr.Scotty, besides being a auto repair genius, who has saved people millions of dollars in car repairs, you really are comic relief to peoples nerves now days.
yes the more vids the better education is the key never forget that people.
I always loved my Vette easy to work on so I don't know what you're saying.
Well on this 1 you'd have to pull the exhaust off just to replace the starter so I don't know what your definition of easy to work on is
@Aidan McKenney I agree, as long as you don't have broken bolts
Swallow your pride
Just saying, I drive a mustang, I love it but it sucks.
@@dylanclay2741 bruh, I’ve taken apart ls engines and compared to other engines like Ford, these are definitely easier to work on, I think it someone else that doesn’t know what easy to work on means
"I'm not gonna take the whole car apart just because GM engineers had their fingers so far up their asses they were coming out their mouths" haha savage!!
Lmao that sent me!
I am dying 🤣
Unfortunately not just stupid G.M. Engineers...they all have their heads up their butts.
I have a 96 Chevy c1500 and a lot of stuff is easy to work on but there is stuff like the power steering pump and the starter bolts running strait up makes me question gm

As a corvette owner I can relate to what your are saying. It takes a special type of mechanic to be able to work in a tight space like that, on your back, without a lift, removing all kinds of other components and without being able to see exactly what your doing. Another job well done Scotty, thank you. We actually changed our crankshaft position sensor at the same time we fixed a real main seal leak and clutch replacement. Like you say it's a real pain to work on a corvette lol.
doesnt mean its a bad car or that it sucks, what the hell do you expect of the first american car to really take german cars for a run.

@Nathaniel Smith first of all, by his name, he’s clearly foreign and that’s rude. Second of all, it’s not about him being unfit, it’s about the fact that Scotty is an older gentleman and he still has all the vigor and ability to do this.
I am now curious and want another video on just the behind the scenes of Scotty just working on a car. lol.
It would be censored to the point of not seeing it at all.
"Stupid thing."
There must have been a 1/2 hour of pure cursing that was eliminated.
I like the pictures you put up that show the location of parts and other parts related to it, as you did with the position sensor and the flywheel etc. Very helpful in understanding where to find the part on my car. Thank you for another great video Scotty!!
Gosh I really liked this video. Much respect to all the mechanics that have to fix faulty designed parts. ❤️
"Another brilliant GM design" says it all.

I am amazed at the amount of work you do without a lift! When I built my pole barn I put in a 2 post lift, and I'm a truck driver not a mechanic! I basically couldn't stand bending over to polish the bottom half of my car anymore, LOL more power to you
Scotty, I know some professionals that would never work under a car without a lift! Much respect for you!
David Swick True it’s a whole different world laying down under a car trying to fix stuff
I have removed and rebuilt my'04 Pontiac Vibe GT trans once to replace a worn syncro because oil was gone. Put back in and drove two weeks and completely removed it again(yeah) because shifter wasn't aligned properly. All that was done on the floor of a garage, no lift. When you put your mind to something, be surprised what you can do.
Speaking of removing a starter, when I was a teen I was under my ‘84 Cutlass removing the starter and the damn thing fell on my forehead! Lol! I bled profusely and ended up with a inch and a half scar. Every time I look in the mirror I’m reminded of that stupid starter!
Vince Clark 307?
You called the starter stupid?
Randy Jackson, yep 👍🏻
Damn, that's crazy. Luckily you weren't killed
bern m, well it was GM.
Thanks Sir Scotty! I'm getting a clearer picture now of why you say to stay away from modern GM vehicles.

MAKE UP YOUR MIND MAN!!! LMAO
If I did this job I would take 3 days to get it "close" to done. Then I would find I could never get it put back together again without pulling the exhaust system off and instead I would tow the car to a Great Northern Railway crossing and park it and setup a comfy folding chair and grab a cold beer and video the train hitting it at 90mph.

Its all plastic and fiberglass, so a yellow maintenance putt-putt doing 10 mph will do the job.

it takes a special kind of guy to do thiswork
Me neither but it is what it is, l can still learn a lot from Scotty
Reminds me of the old chevy chevette, had to remove the brake master cyl to remove the starter. Gotta love engineers.
Wtf lol
How about changing a water pump on an LT-1 V8
Hmm...I think manufacturers pay their engineers to design it difficult to work on so people are forced to take it in and pay the company to fix it. Idk just a theory
Sedition Society not always true, 3800 series II from GM is the easiest engine I ever worked on

Scotty wrecked it verbally. "GM engineers had their fingers so far up their rear end, their fingers came out their mouth.

Great tip... my '03 Xterra has issues, but one was the distributor that I replaced because it got to the point I couldn't drive it and it was destroyed inside. But It would shut off while stopped at traffic lights and misfires plus it struggled to turn on, I couldn't believe it when I found out it was a temp sensor. Hence it had a code for that plus other codes along with it
Huge props to Scotty for doing the job like this and saving the customer money. Would’ve probably been at least an extra couple hours of labor to take the exhaust and all that off to get the starter all the way out.

The "proper orientation" for a powerful car!! ;D
As steamed up as that Vette looked inside it's probably a Houston flood vehicle and it's gonna have a lot more problems than wearing that bow tie and a faulty crankshaft sensor circuit.
Good point
My brother has a 2012 Jeep Wrangler which had the same problem. We replaced the sensor and it turned out great. It was much easier to get to though near the transmission and not right next to the starter like the Corvette
Really enjoyed this video
Dang this reminds me of when Doc brown is trying to get the 2 electric cords together at the clock tower to send marty back to the future. I can imagine scotty screaming like the doc lol.
I remember the crank angle sensor going out on my wife's Holden (Australian GM) Commodore sedan about 10 years ago (common failure on those cars). The car just died as she was travelling through a major intersection, luckily it was able to coast through and there was a large roadside area for her to pull over in as she reached the other side (of the intersection).
Scotty!!! That starter casing looks CRACKED!!!!
As a true Corvette fan I thank you for this video Scotty. 👍🏻

You can actually remove the starter from the car without removing everything else in the area, you just gotta get the right angle and it will slide right out

Shouldn't you take out the negative terminal of the battery first?
You are correct, that way with it removed you cannot short anything to ground.

~ Scotty Kilmer
I love these old school Scotty repair videos
Most of the GM LS engine CKP sensors we have problems with at work are the harness connectors getting crispy and the wire insulation melting off and grounding out because of all the heat.
Is there a reason to disconnect the Red/Positive battery terminal over the Black/Negative terminal? I've seen videos saying to always disconnect the Negative but I trust Scotty more... ??
C - I don’t think it really matters much. I’ve been told that disconnecting the negative is better because if you pull the positive cable and then go to reconnect it, it’s more prone to spark and could cause the battery to blow up. I always disconnect the negative cable myself.
I've always disconnected the negative terminal first because if you are careless while loosening up the positive cable and your ratchet touches anything metal, you will have a direct short across the battery and you'll see an awful lot of sparks!
@@drivedb7 Thank you for the explanation!
@@markkauffman6184 Thank you Mark! That makes sense and I don't want any extra sparks under the hood.
