Great to hear many positives being taken from this season into next. You and Big Dog Jacko were up against some serious opposition in all the races but it’s Henley and nobody has an easy race. The Lwt Germans were just being typical top quality lightweights and were able to spin it up another gear from halfway and there’s only so much Yam to cover that off. Give our regards to Jacko as he was probably running on fumes halfway through his singles race against his compatriot. Pleasure to follow and see what you have achieved this year (so far!!) and looking forward to you kicking on 😎
Can always be positive when having fun!! Definitely some really good competition and to be honest faster than I anticipated in both boat classes! Great to experience such high levels of racing!
Thanks for sharing your experiences, Cam. Obviously pouring your heart into it. You can be proud of that for sure - and it sounds like you’re recognizing the quality and importance of what you’re doing. Cheers to you.
I personally really enjoyed watching you guys (someone I knew) competing - made watching Henley Royal Regatta more personal shouting at the TV - seriously well done guys bravo and I look forward to seeing you there again stronger and better next year 👏
Good on you Cam, the determination to keep learning and improving is so admirable and glad to hear you give yourself credit for the improvements you've made this year
Thank you for the great videos and journey; positive as always regardless of outcome which is refreshing and inspiring. You and Jacko can be proud to have competed at Henley Royal Regatta without having to go through qualification rounds ina year with a lot of entries. An Olympic year is a tough one at HRR: all the top scullers are peaking for an Olympic year and those that don't qualify for the Olympics will set their sights on HRR, where they can compete on a prestigious international stage and maybe go head-to-head with an Olympian, and the Olympian is training through HRR.. Who can forget watching Obreno beat Drysdale in 2016 to win the Diamond Sculls. I see that Gutierrez has dominated his next two rounds. He has a unique style but is doing well with it so far! I watched the German 2x going through the next round. I noticed that their blades showed the same depth as yours, with the stroke seat oar shaft going so deep that it almost looked caught. I wondered if that stroke seat issue was partly due to the river station and partly due to how the stroke seat sits in the water.
Thanks for the support! Henley always a fun one, lots more variables than other regattas on an off the water! Yea the blade depths and other technical points are easy to comment on without knowing about other factors that come into play!
Tough race, tough conditions and even tougher opponents. You held your own for almost 2 thirds of the race, but unfortunate it was not to be. Kudos for being there though and next time .........
Good race Cam and Jacko, tough to have that initial lead and the inches work their way through you. I don't want to have this be a time to give criticism but both of you dig so deep in the water to put the power down, it's actually having the oar travel less distance because it doesn't go through the full circumference of the stroke shallower in the water. Also eating that much water on the shaft of the oar on the exit is like throwing a baseball and then slowing it down just before you let it go, where you want the most speed for the recovery time. That said, amazing to see you race, had my heart in my mouth. Racing at Henley and in the shape you're in, I could never dream of getting myself to that level. Very inspirational. Love the Henley attire too, very crisp. Enjoy the festivities and thank you for another season Cam!! Happy 4th from the States
Thanks for the feedback! Like I said in another comment. Something to improve on for sure but we still wouldn’t have won if we weren’t digging as much Thanks for the support! Been great fun! Here’s to more in the future!
On the Henley Royal footage you can see your bow side oars going very deep at the point they started to come back at you. But great race and thanks so much for the videos!
Hi Cam - My 15 year old son, Jack, is rowing at National level and is keen to explore opportunities for sixth form - either a school that has a strong rowing ethos - like Teddies or Radley. We watched your Vlog about how you started and hadn't realised that going to school in america was a thing! He is keen to go to uni in America. Would you have a chat with him?
Hi Sam! Yes I went through that whole experience! It’s relatively easy once you know what to do. Unfortunately I have too many people asking for time and messing around so i won’t be able to chat to him. There are tonnes and tonnes of places to get free information online and also loads of people to give you the same info but look for payment. Essentially you can go to any school that you like for a “post graduate” high school year in America, same idea as sixth form. In rowing generally the private schools have better rowing programs but with it comes additional cost of course. Easiest thing is to get Jacks 2k as fast as possible and talk to high schools. Can look through performances at regattas throughout the US to get an idea of level. The top US seniors are around 6:10 when they leave high school. 6-35-625 will get you essentially schools opening doors for you to go to them. Then it’s the same idea going to university, the faster you go the easier it is to go somewhere but can be a lot cheaper with availability of scholarships. Honestly you don’t need much more information than that, just a case of talking to schools and they have the staff to lead you through the process 💪
Completely understand. Thank you for the info. This has given us a way forward. He’s serious about his rowing. Interesting to hear about the grips on the blades too! We bought Jack a Wintech Cobra SE and he’s using Wintech blades, but not really liking them. He’s wondering about trying the comp blades…
just shows my novice / naive status as I'm not sure I'd consider a steady state 6k erg on the morning of a race...breakfast / quick jog / get in the boat for me lol
The Germans finished 5th in World Cup I
You stood well against these tough opponents

And cheers right back!
Thank you for the kind words
great race, you really get a good understanding of how far it is from the onboard camera.
As a viewer i can feel the positive change in mentality and succes in your recent training, it’s been a pleasure to watch recently!
I personally really enjoyed watching you guys (someone I knew) competing - made watching Henley Royal Regatta more personal shouting at the TV - seriously well done guys bravo and I look forward to seeing you there again stronger and better next year 👏
Tough race today, I was watching at the start of the course, looked like you guys we're going well. Good luck for next time.
There are a lot of positives to take from this season Cam. You inspire me to do more. All the best.
Good on you Cam, the determination to keep learning and improving is so admirable and glad to hear you give yourself credit for the improvements you've made this year
I m 13 years old and I row too competitively

Great job und thanls for that fantastic video!
Results take care of themselves but the journey is what matters. Well done on your awesome season and allowing us to share it with you. Cheers
i saw myself taking pictures of you in this video lol
I saw you taking pictures of me in real life
Good work out there on the water! Some very strong competition in it this year! Love the look of that cobra!
Tough race, tough conditions and even tougher opponents. You held your own for almost 2 thirds of the race, but unfortunate it was not to be. Kudos for being there though and next time .........
I am a sophomore in high school just starting to get into serious training, do you think polarized training is the best? If not, what do you think is?
Really tough field this year, which you were part of!

It's only in 360p?
For some reason taking a lot of time to process the 4k. Sometime a disadvantage of being the first to watch the video!
I actually know the germans. You don’t have to be ashamed of losing to them they are training like crazy.
just shows my novice / naive status as I'm not sure I'd consider a steady state 6k erg on the morning of a race...breakfast / quick jog / get in the boat for me lol
Only a light one!
WTF you just ran past me in my village 😂!
Loch Awe?

Cam imo both you and big dog blades going in to deep have a look at the footage
Definitely something we could improve on but wouldn’t have given us the win
Well done
