Any chance you can tell me what Daniel used to make the rail edge on the tail of his Lahoma. I am happy with my Hipe 5'1" that I pretty much bought last year after seeing your excellent review video, but it would be nice to have a sharp rail. I have been experimenting with foam and Gorilla Tape but it seems my leash has been pulling it off.
I used some round PVC I already had because I really didn't expect it to help. I cut it in half then heated it to smash it down. There are better options out there for making one. It's worth the effort, if you plan on pushing the lower limits with an inflatable. Have fun!
@@Foilfun Thanks. I have an inflatable kite board. The Indiana Foil 125, so I'm somewhat used to inflatable boards. If I get into Winging, I think inflatable is how I'll start out.

I see the Rocket Air has a pretty nice rocker like these newer inflatables. The fixed mount - would you say it's a deal breaker? I like Lahoma 5'3" 110L price point as well as this F-one Rocket air 5'4" 90L. I'm 5'10" 155lbs - so 70kg and an advanced beginner working on jybes and tacks

You can buy a handle on Aliexpress and glue it on. Works great. "pvc inflatable boat kayak handle". Get the one which is tissue handle, since they are easier to stick. Mine is still perfect after 50 rides.
Given the wider width of the Lahoma do you still think you could ProneFoil with it? The track forwad position would help for the slower speeds attained when ProneFoiling
I am a beginner, bought the Slingshot inflatable 120, borrowed my brothers Quattro Drifter 115, for beginning and standing up I thought the Drifter was easier because it tracked nice and stable while taxiing and seemed easier to stand up on. Do you think the lack of rails and completely flat bottom (except for carbon plate area) makes them a bit squirmier and unstable at this early stage of the learning curve? I thought it would be the ideal learning board, but maybe not. Maybe the front of the boards are too light for beginners (if there is such a thing as too light)?
David, I’m not sure, but I Iearned on a rigid board so it’s hard to go back and compare. The inflatable definitely is stickier on the release but in my experience I have found them to be very stable. With that being said, I believe that the slingshot inflatable is very thick and this can cause some roll instability due to the rail size (tippy). That may be what you’re experiencing.
@@TheOKKiteboarder Thanks for your fast response. I didn't do a direct board to board comparison at the time unfortunately. It just seemed that when I was taxiing to standing up in rough 15 knot onshore chop for the first time in the SF Bay area, the Drifter charged forward on a reach at good speed stabilizing the ride for me to stand up easily, not sure my inflatable would have behaved like that. Hopefully, its because my actual skills have improved rather than just the board.
@@davidhmws thank you for your comment. I'm struggling with the exact same question right now in my progression path for Winging. I haven't bought my board yet because I'm taking lessons. But I too feel the inflatable boards that I'm learning on really get dragged downwind and you can feel the wobbly-ness for sure. Not to say that I did great on the hard board, but the forward tracking definitely felt better. Because of the movement, obviously the balance felt a tad easier and gave me the confidence to stand up easier. I'm just wondering why others online aren't complaining about this issue. Everyone seems to suggest Inflatables are good for beginners. Maybe my balancing has to get better?!? 🤸🤸
After having gotten used to my inflatable board, in terms of its stability in terms of learning to stand up and tracking forward to get ready to foil it's not a problem at all, plenty stable and I am taxiing and standing up even in shorebreak on the Slingshot 120. The next challenge is getting up on foil, where the inflatables have a reputation for being "sticky," but it gets up on foil, I just don't know what to do yet when I'm up there. Overall, I'm thinking that the performance of equivalent hard board is probably better on all aspects until you are competent foiler, but the advantages for beginner are 1) easy to take care of, 2) portability, 3) price, 4) soft surface. #2 is a real benefit for me as I will take this board to California and Hawaii, so an inflatable is a keeper for me.
@@davidhmws Thanks for your response. Regarding the price advantage, the older Quatro Drifters are now less expensive than even Slingshot I-Fly. Even Starboard TakeOff is same price as Slingshot. Given this scenario, I'm thinking hard board, if I find one in the size I'm looking for. Of course the soft surface factor is there with inflatable, but all my falling seems to be in the water than on the board. So I'm not really hitting the board much. Portability isn't too important for me as I have no intentions of traveling (yet) for Winging.
Great review! I got a Lahoma 5'3 but I'm struggling with the foil placement- I saw in the video that you have my same set-up, a Slingshot Infiniti 84 hydrofoil. Where did you find is a good placement on the Lahoma track?

I did get another session in and think the back of the box might be best- further forward and the foil comes up and stalls because I can't get enough weight over my front foot and if I move my feet forward to compensate it puts the board's nose down under chop too much. I'm still a beginner but sorting this out helped me get some decent flights last time out...
John, It's not ideal for a kite due to the high volume, but I do know riders that kitefoil on these boards. More ideal in light wind conditions obviously under a kite.
do you have any reviews of Lahoma foil kits? I'm thinking of getting my 11yo into wing foiling and so I need to get a set of value foil that she can easily learn with
I don’t have any reviews. I know that they are extremely affordable and sufficient enough for entry level foiling. They are not high performance which shouldn’t be an issue in your case.

Roy, unfortunately the f-one i believe is a fixed setup for the mast.

@@oceanlance for me a fixed mount is a deal killer due to the narrow stance I ride with which requires a forward positioning of the hydrofoil.

I actually use the Kujira wing for foiling. Maybe someone in the video had the 84 setup. I mount my setup pretty far forward though on the Lahoma.

Lahoma has a 5’5” inflatable if you want to be budget conscious, should suffice.

Slightly better manufacturing quality than the Lahoma, not as good as the fanatic. Winging performance of the Gong would be less than the other two.
