    Epiphone has been really making a ton of improvements in three last 3 years. It's like they've suddenly realized they have a great vintage model history and it was worth standing up for.

    I too will never be a Gibson Bass fan. I contacted their custom shop once about wanting to buy a custom Les Paul Jr. Bass. I had money and time. And they made it very clear, “we do not take any custom orders on Basses”. Ugh

    Got one exactly like the one you have!
    Had a 63 TBird and the same era Epi Embassy in the late 70's. The Embassy got sold because the sound/sustain was not as good as the TB's. The reissue Epi Embassy and Epi TB's with the same pickup BOTH are AMAZING and well worth the 28 YEAR wait for these to return. These Embassy basses are the real deal.

    I have a Rickenbacker, 2 US Fender Precisions, and 3 different Gibson basses and my Embassy gets played more than all of those combined. I love it. I had a new set of unused Gotoh res-o-lite tuners I dropped in, just because I had them, but I've changed nothing else. I bought it 6 or 7 months ago when I noticed Sweetwater had it on sale for $499 with $150 back in Sweetbucks or whatever their fake money is called. So, it ended up being $350, and it came set up perfectly out of the box. String height, nut slots, intonation, all spot on. Frets are really good too, not perfect, but better than the frets on my 2019 Gibson Les Paul Jr. were by a mile. I read about some issues with the first Embassys they made a few years back, something with the bridge, but I heard that was resolved and mine has no problems. I hear there are some wiring issues with the new Newports, but I'm sure they'll get that straightened out. I guess it's like a new car. Don't buy the first year of a new model, let them work the issues out and then dive in.

    Should we mod it? Yes! But: only the bridge. Give it a Hipshot Supertone 2 Mount (reverse mounted - Lobster did. that with a Newport, should also work with the Embassy). Maybe better tuners. That’s it. No need to change anything else.
    I own one in Smoked almond - this bass loves a comp and fuzz/distortion. Plays like a shortie. Killertones with that PUs (same as in the Thunderbird I guess), I play it via Fender Rumbles (100 & 500), really love it and yes: it’s a keeper 😍
    P.s.: Tone Control … well yes, onboard. No need to use it, as it is … Not doing too much, just in tradition of most Gibson/Epiphone basses.

    I got a silver almond metallic one for 2 years now...this is the first bass that i find really useful the blend control on it, 'cause you can have the typical combinations (neck/Bridge/both) but if you get the "full pickup+50% the other pickup" you actually notices a completely different character to the sound...and ergonomically speaking it doesn't destroy my forearm like a standard T-Bird does hehe

    Great video. I saw this at GC in green on clearance for $279 this morning. I ended up going back a couple of hours later and spending my Christmas / birthday money to buy it ahead of this weekend’s NYE gig. The color is gorgeous, it’s light as a feather, and the sounds were immediately addictive. Your video, though, definitely made a big difference; getting to hear it in a live cover band setting helped me to make the decision knowing that this is going to sound killer with the band. I can’t wait for this weekend! Sorry I couldn’t give you the commission; I’ll have to go grab a mug or t-shirt or something to pay you back. Anyway, thanks again.

    I owned one last year, but I moved it on in the end. Weirdly, it was because it was too light in weight. Sounded fine, looked super fancy (I had the smoked almond metallic - gold basically). But it felt insubstantial in an intangible way that I can't quite put my finger on. Also, the tuners were utter gash - I replaced them with licenced Hipshots.

    I love how it sounds but unfortunately Epiphone QC is atrocious. I had serious issues with my OG and the replacement I was sent, so now I'm paying for a pre-purchase setup so a tech can detect any issues before I get a new new replacement.

      @chuckbailey5673 the cool feature of the Jack Cassady bass is that 3 way resistor switch. I use an aftershock pedal which growls more if you pick harder. So if you set the overdrive level just before it distorts, you can get clean tones on the first setting, and flip the switch on the guitar to overdrive. With a compressor, it can keep the volume the same.

    • @Therealchuckbailey
      @Therealchuckbailey Год назад +2

      I’m not sponsored by anyone. They sent us basses under $500 to review. We didn’t get paid and quite frankly it cost more in man hours, gas, time and production far beyond what those two basses cost if I bought them myself. If you saw my take 5 I destroyed that model cause it sucked. Gibson has a bad habit of not listening to its players. I’ve never liked Gibson. These basses were terrible. By comparison to that piece of driftwood with tuning keys that I played and spoke about (Non Reverse TBird) this bass is light years better. Stop being a dork. People can change their minds on shit.

    • @guitarandotherthings6090
      @guitarandotherthings6090 Год назад

      @Chuck Bailey In a way it is a sponsorship because you get to keep what is sent to you and then you can sell it after the review. So its still a financial asset.

    • @Therealchuckbailey
      @Therealchuckbailey Год назад +2

      @@guitarandotherthings6090 that’s called business. An exchange of goods for services. We have had plenty of videos where they send the gear and our review is less than stellar. Also me not liking Gibson or epiphone basses hasn’t changed. I am not a fan of Thunderbirds at all. I do not like that they rehash and reissue a Tbird every 3 months or so that’s a different signature or different hardware and think it’s what people want. People have been screaming at the top of their lungs for Grabbers, Artists, RD, G3 basses to be reissued and have they done that???? No. They haven’t. Had chances like with Gene Simmons signature model… what did they give us…. A Tbird…. So yea man if epiphone did something solid and made some decent basses for under $500 that smashed some of the older epi stuff (Jack Casady epi is the best Epi in IMO btw) then yea I’m going to say this bass compared to others I’ve been exposed to is solid. It doesn’t change my opinion on Gibson as a whole but maybe there’s hope. You can call it whatever you want man. My time is important to me and I am not altruistic to the point of working for free. Gibson AR saw this also and I’ve told them my thoughts on the Tbird thing. We’re not hiding or tiptoeing over here and we never have.

      @@Therealchuckbailey I own an original Embassy Deluxe bass from '67, it's the only instrument I've owned throughout my musical life, bought in around 72/73 - before almost any guitars or basses were noted for having a "history". It played beautifully right from the start when I picked it up as used in a small music store. Traded a Ricky 4001 for the Epi and a Yamaki 12 string. I heavily modified it for some of the same reasons I would have modded the Thunderbird equivalent, but nut to bridge is completely original. That one has been fretless for some time, so I did look for something similar and picked up a 2012 Epiphone T-Bird PRO and put better tuners and pickups on it. For having the same bridge to nut, the bass couldn't feel any more different than the original Embassy Deluxe, so jury is still out on how long it will stay in collection. I have tried the new Epiphones like what you've reviewed but again, it feels nothing like the original Embassy Deluxe. That doesn't rule it out, and for the price, I may pick one up at some point and string it up for BEAD, like I had the original bass tuned for about a decade. Good review!!
