  • The hunt to find a toaster that will actually accept Warburtons slices. Armed with a paper model of a Warburtons farmhouse slice that I made, I try every toaster in Currys, to mostly disappointment.

This has got me for a long time. Warburtons has to be Britains most popular bread yet the toaster companies can't do enough research and development on the customers needs and produce a toaster that will fit bread in it.

I have just had this exact same problem today, (09 Oct 2016) and this problem isn't just that the toasters don't fit *Warburtons* bread, they don't fit *ANY* bread.
Bought a cheap toaster from Morrisons for my elderly dad. Problem, too small for the bread, top sticking out. Back to the shop. Bought a *Russel Hobbs* one from B&M yesterday. Got it home, tested it myself before inflicting it on my father, same problem. Bread sticking out at the top. Took it back today, tested all the other brands on their shelf, and not one of them is deep enough to hold a *normal* slice of bread. (By the way, I did the testing a lot easier than you, just popped a normal slice of bread into a plastic bag and sealed it, voila).
    Swan £12.99 = Too small
    Prolex £14.99 & £19.99 = Too small
Russel Hobbs *Canterbury* £19.99 = Too small
Russel Hobbs **Futura* £17.99 = Too small
So tomorrow I will have to trawl the electrical shops with bread-in-bag in tow and find one that fits. I believe it is a conspiracy because now, don't know if anyone has noticed, that Warburton's bread has shrunk to the size of normal bread and no doubt toasters have been designed to *not fit* so that when more complaints come through, bakers can shrink their bread sizes in order to *fit the toasters*. Hmmmmmm.
I'm so glad I'm not alone though and thank you for your research, your video and the tip that Asda may still have a relatively cheap toaster when I get there.
Oh, and by the way, I have a *Morphey Richards* 4 slice toaster which actually DOES accommodate the full standard slice of bread (Not the oversized Warburton's though) ;)
    Cheers

We purchased an Asda (own label) long-slot 2 slice toaster today, it toasted a full slice of Hovis white on its side, Hooray!!! They do long-slot 4 slice models as well. And it was under ten quids!

I've spent many hours over the years looking for a toaster that takes normal sized bread and forever I have always just lived with bending the bread to get it in.
I never thought of Asda and so I have ordered their 4 slice toaster.. Reviews say it still takes the normal bread we use in the UK. Be great if it works.

A valid quest indeed. Too many toasters are designed for continental sized toasting bread, which is smaller. Even the leading British manufacturers of toasters make this error.
So I'm off to Asda! Cheers!

But that's the problem! There are no longer any British manufacturers of toasters - almost exclusively, they're made in China now! 20 to 30 years ago all British sliced bread was bigger. The answer, I guess, is for Warburtons to fall in line with its contemporaries and reduce the circumference of their loaves.

I have only just found out this toaster exists (thanks to mumsnet).
Between the date this video was posted and today Ive been turning the bread round half way through.
If warburtons made a toaster they would sell millions.

Did the same search myself. Got a Russell Hobbs Classic. Still happy with it after 3 years.

Isn't it ridiculous that most toasters won't accept most slices of bread? I thought I was the only one bothered by it, having to squish the bread in, life's too short for this stress. Thanks for posting this video.

It's madness how small the average toaster slot is, and worst of all for bread maker owners. A large slice of bread from a Panasonic breadmaker has an area of about 17cm x 12 cm. I could make smaller loaves but it's more economical and less time consuming to bake the larger ones. The obvious fact is, if just one - ONE - manufacturer would make a double-slice toaster with genuinely large slots, they would own the toaster market for homemade bread lovers.

Dave Cochrane considering most bread is 15cm tall I really have no idea why they make toaster 14x14 as standard 😫

Hi I've just spent hours trying to find a toaster that will take a regular sized slice of bog standard sliced bread...First I had to return two toasters to Argos...I tried the toasters at Tesco, still no luck...Finally at Currys/PC World after checking all toasters on display I found that one or two V expensive toasters accepted the bread and a Russell Hobbs "Colours" worked, which I bought at a reasonable price...
Glad to know it's not just me that's noticed this problem?

brilliant video. I go armed with my paper slice of bread as well. I ended up with a two slot supposed four slice. Don,t manufacturers try this.

If the slice of Bread doesn't fit, cut the slice of Bread in half and use 2 slots.

Brilliant ! Just returned a Bosch to Argos for the same reason. What is it with the product designers - do they not check this sort of stuff?

The Movie Bastard late replay. Not the point. It's the most popular bread but most toasters won't fit it

Uhh these toasters can't fit British styled bread so other bread can't fit too
      Edit: I know this because:
Someone in the comments said this,I'm not an expert on toasters so I won't know lmao
