Frankly, I've never understood the Godzuki hatred. Is it because he's a Scrappy-Doo-like Hanna Barbera character? Is it just because he interrupts the intro theme with a carnival diddy? Is it because he's comedic relief? Having Godzuki in the show does make a degree of sense as he contributes to its lore and world building. It explains why Godzilla would follow around a single team of scientists on a ship and be willing to help them, given he's clearly watching out for his kin and comes whenever Godzuki calls out.
The hatred comes mostly from the fact that he serves mainly one of two purposes: unfunny comedic relief, and summoning Godzilla when needed. Has he proved himself useful in other ways, absolutely, more so than the aforementioned canine that has earned everyone's ire. But the unfunny comedy in an otherwise more serious cartoon series, and that he's more cringe than cute, made him almost universally unliked by the Godzilla fanbase.

This TV series is the very reason I know Godzilla ever existed in this world. Thank you, Toho, for bringing Godzilla into this world, and allowing an American animation company to make this cartoon series.

All i could think of when godzilla was going back into the water was those old school video game bosses that fall down the screen with explosions going off.
I deeply appreciate you uploading this show officially on RUclips as I find it a lot of fun despite it's simplicity. The original kaiju on this show were also very colorful. I hope you consider full length episode over segments in the future but that's a minor recommendation. Thanks for doing this and would love to see HD versions of the second season episodes before too long.
@@Kaijufan360 it does a great job of capturing the guardian/hero aspect of Godzilla with a fun human cast the actual helps move the plot forward. Godzuki and Pete are great pov characters for kids and Zuki works better than almost all the attempts at godzilla having a son except for Godzilla JR in destroyah. As a kid it was the only human cast i cared about besides Godzilla 2000. The Kajiu are great and Godzillas redesign really brings out the fire breathing dinosaur of Godzilla. It the polar opposite of the amazing black scales the look like burns but this is a show about Godzilla as your big brother/dog
Did they tighten the editing when introducing Godzooky for 80s reruns of this series? The shot at 0:17 of Godzooky descending feels like a pause in my memory of the intro, and I can sing it word-for-word and whistle it note for note from memory. It's just that one shot that seems to linger, throwing off my recall of what I saw as a kid in the 80s again and again and again.

Used to watch this as a kid in '94. Loved it. Seeing it now I can only shake my head and laugh. I had no idea it was a show from '78. Really puts things into perspective.
The "God-zil-la" part kind of reminds me of part of the Incredible Hulk TV Series soundtrack when the Hulk emerges from his Hulkout (and YES...Ted Cassidy supplied both Godzilla and the Hulk's growls). 😋
Ah, the joys of cross-water cooperation. It's a shame this and H-B's Ultraman series didn't get the circulation it should have. Plus there were the gems Marvel helped with on the other side. Sadly, it isn't always licensing issues that prevent airing but sometimes the chemistry of physical film or policies of reusing film.
The entire series needs to be on DVD, this is the best American version of Godzilla and probably the only cartoon that has the feel of the actual Godzilla if this could get a continuation (with his actual powers and replace Pete and Godzooky with Jana of the jungle) with other official Toho monsters that would be great
I still have the old Shogun Warriors Godzilla toy with the spring-loaded fist. I still love it and my parents meant well, but I was disappointed it didn't look like HB's Godzilla here.

I always thought Pete and Godzooky were a direct copy of "Pete's Dragon," which was released the year before. I mean, his name is Pete, he has the '70s shag haircut, and Godzooky moves and sounds a lot like Elliot. It cracks me up how they can press the button and Godzllla is BOOM, right there. Does he just follow them around all day? WHAT DOES HE STAND ON WHEN WE SURFACES? So many questions I've had for 45 years.
1. Yes, he's always right there, because they are holding Godzooky hostage to make sure he hangs around but also doesn't turn on them, and obeys them instead. 2. Every Godzilla film(And EVERY alternate English version of every Godzilla film) deserves to be restored in 4K and released onto disc in 4K. Every episode of Godzilla TV deserves to be restored in HD and released on Blu Ray. PLEASE make it happen Toho!
Godzooky is literally the I became a Godzilla fan to this day. Not the 1998 movie, him. I LOVED Godzooky as a kid you could not believe the shock in my face when I saw how hated he is to the community

Awesome blast from my past. Loved this show as a kid and still my favorite Godzilla anything outside of the original 1950s movies.
This animated series, along with the Trendmasters toyline and Godzilla vs Ebirah, was how I got started in becoming a Godzilla fan.

Glad somone else understands how actually unique it is. Really does a good job of capturing the good guy Godzilla like the later Showa era.
I always thought Pete and Godzooky were a direct copy of "Pete's Dragon," which was released the year before. I mean, his name is Pete, he has the '70s shag haircut, and Godzooky moves and sounds a lot like Elliot.
It cracks me up how they can press the button and Godzllla is BOOM, right there. Does he just follow them around all day?

So many questions I've had for 45 years.
1. Yes, he's always right there, because they are holding Godzooky hostage to make sure he hangs around but also doesn't turn on them, and obeys them instead. 2. The boat is always in an ocean which is only ten feet deep or so, unless there's a submarine or diving involved, in which case it is both ten feet deep and two miles deep. It is Schroedinger's Ocean.
Every Godzilla film(And EVERY alternate English version of every Godzilla film) deserves to be restored in 4K and released onto disc in 4K.
Every episode of Godzilla TV deserves to be restored in HD and released on Blu Ray.

Godzooky is literally the I became a Godzilla fan to this day. Not the 1998 movie, him. I LOVED Godzooky as a kid you could not believe the shock in my face when I saw how hated he is to the community
I've been wondering what's next for this channel after the movie trailers. I didn't expect this.
When I was small, I though the song was "Up From the depths 30 stories high *Prehisire,* his head hits the sky" (Prehisire, being basically prehistoric king). I did realize it was actually "Breathing Fire" somewhere along the way.
