Great reaction again and thanks for coming back to this version of 'Monochrome'. It is definitely one of their more "mellow" songs, but they do like to mix things up, the next one you hear may well be thrash or death metal. 🤘
Well done correcting yourself on which of them was Moa and which was Momoko.👍This was actually Momoko's first show as Momometal, so Su calling both Moametal and Momometal over by name was a very touching moment for the fans.
The reference to Ragnarok was correct and it was the Norse mythology they were referencing ... end of the world stuff, but as the next line said "No matter how long the night, the morning will arrive".
They have been touring the world all year since this. All around Europe with Sabaton in the summer, then they did a headline tour of SE Asia and Australia. After that they did something like 30 dates all around the US and Canada co-headlining with Dethklok (the BABYKLOK Tour) and another headline tour with about 20 dates in the UK and Europe. I think it was 94 concerts in all.
They don't do the big arena shows with the huge productions like this outside of Japan (only twice - they played Wembley Arena in London in 2016 and the LA Forum in 2019), but they still put on a great show in the more modest venues without all the moving stages etc ... and they like to get up close to interact with the audience as much as they can. That isn't so easy in the big arenas with 20k people, so they do like to have the moving stages that roll out into the arena where they can.

Welcome back to BabyMetal's metalverse 🦊🤘🌐
It seems like you're binging with BM songs, take it easy and digest every song to appreciate and let it grow on you. Glad to aee your lovely daughter around.
This is a nice version with the right subtitles, so Ragnarok was part of the lyrics.and if you watch the official lyrics video you'll see they're showing the Tree of Life in this part, it's just a metaphor for sad moments and how that terrible event in Norse mythology it's also to represent the start of something new, this is a recurrent theme in BM songs about birth, death and rebirth, you can't recognize when she's saying the word bc Japanese got another way to pronounce English or foreign language.
Monochrome is another beautiful track from this new album, it's more like a hard rock song (that's why you got some 80's vibes) with some metal elements, it was the 2nd single released in November last year and there's an official lyrics video really cool if you wanna enjoy the studio album version, later this year right before this concert you just saw they released the Piano Version at TFT surprising everyone with another stunning and beautiful one off version.
The lyrics got some Norse mythology reference and when the lyrics vid came out there were many theories around, later they said they were surprised about it and saying they just wanna give a hopeful song.
    Here's some official info:
_"One of the discovered 10 parallel worlds is MONOCHROME and this 2nd pre-release digital single “Monochrome” centers around this theme. From the eyes of the children, what color were the monochrome fireworks lighting up in the night sky? This song expresses the hopeful wish on Ragnarok, which signifies doomsday in Norse mythology, twinkling across the starry skies in rainbow colors."_
This was live at BabyMetal Begins - PIA Arena MM Clear Night, Yokohama on April 2, MomoMetal first concert as an official member, you can notice SuMetal speaking to them in the middle section and giving that recognition. You did the right thing swapping your guess, MoaMetal is in the right screen, even SuMetal look at her first when saying her name and then turn to MomoMetal asking "Can you see it?".
They got this magical moment when performing live in every setlist they did throughout this World Tour, and we'll definitely see more in the next year.
The composer behind this song is the same one behind Karate, Rondo Of Nightmare, Kagerou, the arrangement of Megitsune and also behind Believing from this same latest album, you should really not miss those songs.
Next year (March 2 and 3) is coming Legend MM celebrating MomoMetal's birthday in Yokohama, so probably will get an spectacular show like this with flying drones (not drums) around lol
Btw i was about to recommend MAYA after noticed you like Ice Nine Kills since that song got a clear riff from Rainy Day but you already did that, maybe you wanna show it to your daughter.
    .
Like SuMetal said at the end: "Just smile".🙂
Keep enjoying BM songs and see you next time 🦊🤘🌈

A personal anecdote, I got into them bigtime at the beginning of this year, and my wife and i got to see them live back to back days in Houston and Dallas. Of course they don't have the massive production, but the payoff is you get to be closer. In Dallas, we were about 6 feet from the stage and it was surreal how incredible their actual stage presence is, and they did an amazing amount of personal crowd interaction. Lots of smiles, waves, completing hearts .. they make me laugh and smile and feel young again.
    They're very inspiring to me.

    Great reaction!
Su definitely said Ragnorak. This song is about over coming catastrophe with a hopeful outlook to tomorrow.
After “monochrome” you hear her say: “what colors will we imagine the night sky?”
“We will imagine the night sky in rainbow colors”
    To finally, with conviction:
“WE WILL paint the night sky in rainbow colors”
Ragnorak -> the morning will come, just smile.
These gals just did a whole US tour in fall with Deathklok after EU tour with Sabaton, and their own headline tour in EU after US (~100 shows total this year!).
Also, they’ve been touring internationally for 9 years, so had some practice. Su also trains her vocals while on a treadmill to condition her singing while dancing.
    Look forward to more Babymetal!

Thanks for reacting to this particular performance. This for me is one of the most stunning audio/visual performances I've seen. I find the obvious joy in the ladies performances so heartening. And this concert was the one where Momo officially became a member of Babymetal. I think everyone who knows this finds that moment where Su calls her in close to be so touching. That was neat seeing the costume stuff at the end. I don't can't remember her name but apparently the woman who has designed BM's costumes from the begging is one of Japan's most revered costume designers.

8:30 I love moments like this, where we see Su-metal's almost childish happy sparkle in her eyes. 🙂 and even almost in tears at 13:27
Great to see you had the ladies correct.
Yes, dancing and singing are similar to learning an instrument, but the voice is one of the most variable probably, their are no easy tuning knobs like a guitar or piano. So my guess the voice needs the most attention of all. In the past they've said they train full setlists and do cardio for the 2 weeks before a tour. They've somewhat recently in an interview said: they train it for so long when it becomes automatic and then train it more so it becomes less automatic, so they can direct it. Does that make sense ?
Babymetal has for years now had the same Japanese clothes designing company who works for the entertainment industry.
PS By the way The Six Wives of Henry VIII is a great album by Rick Wakeman from 1973.

Yes, they did a dark reference to Ragnarök, the end of the world according to the Norse mythology. And yes, they mention it explicitly in the Japanese lyrics: "Ragunaroku no tasogare ni boku ra wa nani o miteru." (What are we looking at in the twilight of Ragnarök?). It's just the peculiar Japanese pronunciation of the foreign words... 😁
And yes, you got Moa and Momoko right after the correction.
Experiencing this song live is absolutely amazing. I was very lucky of being like at 2m (7ft) from Moa while she was teaching us how to take our phones out and turn on our lights. 🤣

Its probably like "Armageddon" which refers to a hillside in Lebanon, I believe.
Also, I'm no expert, but from curiosity and reading, I believe Ragnarok is an indo-European concept. So, cultures all over the world have its traces, one of which is Norse Mythology. If you see the lyric video, it features a big tree and I believe there's a central tree that features in their creation myth too. Maybe I'm reaching, but that's where my mind went.

    • @DadDaughtersandDrinks
      @DadDaughtersandDrinks  10 месяцев назад

It's certainly possible; the Norse tree of life (Yggdrasil) is a big part of many of their legends, so a reference to Ragnarok along with a tree is certainly a possibility.

  • @Icipher353

I was at the concert at PIA where this was filmed, and I can confirm that there was indeed a drone flying around filming. The drone was piloted by Mai Shiraishi, who is a champion drone pilot. This was all filmed for the Blu Ray release of the 2 nights of the concert, which is called "Babymetal Begins - The Other One: Black Night & Clear Night".
They are indeed referencing the Norse Ragnarok. You can't pick it in the vocals because they pronounce it as ラグナロク (raganaroku).
All the members of Babymetal have been training and performing since they were young children. Su-metal trained at Actors School Hiroshima (ASH) as an eight year old, debuted in her first idol group "Karen Girls" as a ten year old, and became lead vocalist of Babymetal as a twelve year old. She recently turned 26, so she has been in Babymetal more than half her life. Similarly with Moametal and Momometal, they both began training in performing arts as little girls, and joined Sakura Gakuin as tweens.
Babymetal regularly tours throughout Asia, Europe, and North America and attend a lot of the major metal festivals around the world. They had a massive year of touring this year, completing 94 shows in 26 countries over the course of the year.

This song may be best categorized as melodic metalcore with some djent, but to describe the genre, it's made up of melodic guitar rhythms which started with melodic death metal back in the day, but is applied to modern metalcore which makes it less brutal by the nature of it. It gives the song a very catchy melodic rhythm, especially combined with Su's melodic vocals. BABYMETAL only sparingly uses harsh vocals and screams (all in backtrack when it happens).
PIA Arena 2023 concerts (BABYMETAL Begins Black and Clear Night are the names of the two concerts held) are the current best of any versions of the songs played at them, and definitely welcomed for reactions. I think you sourced that from who? which is an excellent channel for live concerts, another is For The Fox God. I would avoid other channels in general as there are some really bad compilations in the wild on channels that don't tell anyone they are except maybe in the description.
For songs from these concerts I recommend starting with Road of Resistance, Light and Darkness, Mirror Mirror, Megitsune, Believing, Time Wave, and iine!. There's also a recent performance of Gimme Chocolate I recommend. I do have a playlist of 2023 performances on my channel if you are interested.
