    9:00 This is one of my favorite fight scenes.
    Instead of making Lucy a girl-boss that beats up this savage, buff, tall, strong, surface survivor who has been fighting his whole life, she actually loses this fight. Mostly.
    He throws her 100 pounds around like a 200 pound fit, strong, athletic man SHOULD be able to.
    I'm not condoning it, I'm just pointing out that he's huge and strong, and she's tiny, and given the difference in their size, she has no chance to out-wrestle him.
    He tosses her around with ease, stabs her, and is strangling her to death.
    Then he gets distracted and she clocks him in the temple with a heavy blunt object, enough to knock him out for a minute so she can escape.
    She still didn't really win, having suffered a possibly lethal wound while he's only out for a minute.
    It's very realistic, way way more than watching girl-bosses slap men around twice their size like taking a stroll through the park.
    This makes me like Lucy MacLean way more than typical girl-boss heroes; she fights for real and her struggles seem real.

      It also raises the stakes when she goes to the surface. We know that she faces real threats that she potentially can't handle.

      Very good point. Sure, a fantasy flick where a girl beats up a guy twice her size is fun escapism, but the reality of Lucy's fight with Monte shows her resourcefulness when she strikes while he's distracted by the alarm . . .

    Regarding the baby doll kill at the end.
    There is a famous gun in some of the video games, called a junk Jet, that you can put any junk into it and it shoots that junk as ammo.
    Wrenches, scrap metal, dinner plates, silverware, even plastic dolls.
    They put that scene in at the end of the episode just for us Fallout video game junkies so we'd know something everybody else doesn't.

    Nice to find a new reactor to this show who even looks quite a bit like Lucy 😊
    And i wish you much fun with the show, its really a very good one 👍
    Oh, for the giant bag that Maximus is carrying, its a bit of a joke about inventory in RPG games. I mean, even that big wouldn't be big enough for all the stuff you often carry around there.
    Also of course the "stim pack" Lucy used after she got stabbed by her "husband" is just game mechanics, like you drink your HP potion and your wounds are magically healed.

    "A cult." The Brotherhood of Steel is a religion of technology!

    • @MarcosElMalo2
      @MarcosElMalo2 3 дня назад

      It reminds me of the Catholic Church and its military orders, like the Templars or the Hospitallers. They were like monasteries, but the members trained as soldiers to defend the faith and fight for the Church (and literally fought in The Crusades). So I don’t see the BoS as a cult. They’re just like any other religion with rituals, dogma, and symbols, etc.
      What is interesting (to me) is that cracks have already formed in the religion, conflicts between dogmas, and contradictions between its high ideals and its methods.

    6:40 "I wonder why everybody is separated into different vaults?"
    No spoilers here, but I can answer that.
    The US has hundreds of millions of people.
    Nobody can make one vault, or even many vaults, big enough for all of them.
    Vault Tec, the company that made these vaults, made each differently based on the nearby population and the needs of the vault.
    Some would only hold a few dozen residents, others held several hundred.
    They made hundreds of vaults all over the US.
    Games in this world included vaults in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Washington DC, and Boston, plus several out in the wilderness in Nevada, California, West Virginia, and Maine that I recall.
    Vault Tec also conducted social experiments and, occasionally, other kinds of experiments in some of the vaults, though that isn't explored in this TV series so Lucy seems to be from one of the non-experimenting vaults.
    Unless you count the fact that it was connected by underground tunnels to Vault 31 and 32, kept separate but having an inter-vault breeding program. I'm not sure if that counts as a social experiment or not.

    I started with the precursor to Fallout, Wasteland. Long story short, Brian Fargo made a 4-bit post-apocalyptic video roleplaying game called Wasteland. He wanted to do a sequel, but the publisher, Electronic Arts, wasn't interested and since they owned the IP, he couldnt do it on his own, so he founded his own company and made Fallout. Years later he sold the IP to Bethesda who caused it to skyrocket in popularity. Oh and EA did finally let Fargo make a sequel to Wasteland, as long as they didn't have to pay for it, which they didn't due to a successful Kickstarter campagin.

    I have only played Fallout 4 and have played it for several years. When I first heard they were going to make a live-action version of the video game, I will admit that I thought it was going to flop, as many other attempts to transition and adapt video games to screen never went well. But I will now admit I was wrong, and this show was a very good surprise. It's not an adaptation of a story directly from the games, but is its own story and follows a majority of the game's lore.

  • @arsewynd
    @arsewynd 3 дня назад

    The best thing the showrunners did was to lean into "game logic" so things like the instant heal from the stim-pac (the needle Lucy uses on her wound) which restores your health.
    So if anything seems unrealistic remember GAME.
    Lucy probably cant get pregnant, he was very radioactive.
    Take note that Moldaver leaves with only four people and Hank, was not until I rewatched the series that I caught that, more thoughts on that as you get further.
    Moldaver's bomb IMO was only meant to block off their escape passage not destroy the vault.
    The suit is heavy, but you don't use your muscles to move it, it is powered and uses hydraulics and servos to move.
    Is he the Dad? Yes. The Ghoul is a mutant created by large doses of radiation, they can heal, are functionally immortal, like a (Tolkein elf) so can still be killed.

    👍A lot of times a new show gets hyped, and then you watch it and find that the budget was blown on a big name actor, or tons of CGI, or its got some kind of agenda its pushing. But this is pretty damn faithful to the source material. The props, sets and costumes are lovingly crafted, and the creatures brought to life diligently. This is what it looks like to have a showrunner care about the details. Add in a fantastic cast, and you're in for a rocket ride.
    Also, for the sake of your curiosity, the reason the world is kind of retro-futuristic is because the world of Fallout is kind of a divergent timeline where technology moved from the vacuum tube, over to nuclear fusion/fission, lasers, robotics, and essentially skipped the transistor. The Fallout universe is essentially the "World of Tomorrow" as imagined in the 50's. Lots of Americana, focus on 'the red scare', all satirized and dialed up to 11. Its violent, its cruel, and its quirky. Enjoy :)

    • @MalBread
      @MalBread  4 дня назад +1

      OK the nuclear fusion/fission explanation makes so much sense now! I really like it when I come across media that has the vintage feel to it paired with advance tech! So far the actors have been super talented, I only have great things to say about this how. Also thank you so much for watching my video, I really appreciate the support!

  • @cstains5543

    The Brotherhood of Steel are also founded by surviving members of the US military who after seeing a series of "war crimes" committed in the name of progress by the US government mostly against other US citizens before the bombs even fell effectively revolted and fled their original base under the leadership of Captain Maxson. Maxson would become the first Elder of the Brotherhood with most of the original fellow deserters as senior members of the Brotherhood.
    This created an interesting semi religious semi technology loving military based cult built on the idea that technology needed to be limited and controlled and it was that unchecked hubris of scientists and their more dangerous creations that ultimately led to the collapse of civilization.

    9:21 You’re terrible! Terribly funny. 👍
    Everything about this show is impressive, but what I find most compelling is that it is telling a moral tale. Lucy’s big challenge is not merely physically surviving in the Wasteland, but it is maintaining her self, her moral framework, her identity. That this is a moral tale doesn’t become clear until early in the second episode when she has her first encounter. The character she encounters has a short monologue and it is in this monologue that the character states Lucy’s thesis. Yes, a thesis statement, like in an essay, but it is so artfully done that the directness of it doesn’t take us out of the story. But to be clear, it’s the writers of the show telling us directly, This is what the story is about. Or at least Lucy’s story. The other characters (both the two other main characters, but also other important characters) also have their own moral points-of-view and goals, sometimes forthright, sometimes obscured and sometimes veiled.
