@@jakewest8816 Nobody is saying that, it is however very uncommon for him to shoot. I'd probably find more bullets shot in some kid's cartoons than an Indiana Jones movie.
lol how many Indiana Jones movies does he actually have to do that many complicated puzzles? That shit doesn’t happen. Not only that but I’m broad daylight in fascist Italy? The game feels like it hasn’t been fully finished. Not a bad game but definitely overrated
@damiantirado9616 the whole idea is giving you the experience of being him. Plus it's a video game dude. Don't understand the character nor understanding how to make it work in video game form. Shocker! In another universe if those elements didn't exist you would be here complaining about that as well! lol
The melee combat is the exact same as the one in red dead 2. You're able to block, dodge, punch, grab, and have unique animations for certain weapons. Stamina really isn't an issue if you don't speedrun the game to pump out a video (I see your stamina bar at the very end, I had almost double that when I finished the game). You wanted wolfenstein, not an indiana jones game
Yep, Indiana jones isn’t a superhero he doesn’t have unlimited stamina and there are way around that, explore and upgrade him and then the stamina never comes into play.. this was a shit review just for clicks
Yeah I said the exact same thing when I saw his stamina bar, I was like "no wonder he thinks the melee combat is shit, he's facing late game enemies with no perks because he didn't do any of the side content"
Melee combat is actually really fun. The gun play does feel pretty bad but I'm fine busting random objects over enemy characters heads, getting in epic first fights and whipping the crap out of enemies. It's not a shooter quit trying to play it like it's a shooter. The real problem with the game is it starts getting buggy once you get to Asia. I thought that was going to be what the video was about. The combat is fun, I'm fine with guns being nerfed.
Ya ive only used my gun once the entire game, its much more fun throwing hammers and shit at people, hes just playing the game as boring as possible then complaining that its boring
I would have preferred making the stealth more difficult while buffing the guns to be more powerful. Overall making it feel more realistic and like the movies.
Imagine being shot in the back of the head with an actual revolver, then turning around to whoever shot your unprotected head and being like “my health is still at 90%, en guarde!”
Very rare, maybe even unique L on this one. As you said, the focus of this game is on puzzle and exploration, with stealth being the main mechanic when it comes to facing enemy... and you're not supposed to go around and knock out every guard, but sneak without being noticed, with melee and guns being the very last resort when you get found out. As someone who only watched IJ series last year, I felt really immersed in the character exactly because I didn't feel untraceable or spongy like Nathan or Lara Croft in her latest games, but a regular ass dude, considered fit for his era, but who feels heavy and moves slowly, who needs to approach every enemy area with the utmost care. Was it done well or realistically? No, but it's in sync with the campiness of the first movies.
Too many people claim to have watched Indiana Jones and then they play the game and expect him to be Nathan Drake. This game has exposed so many tourists of a popular movie franchise. Why lie about watching these movies. lol it's so obvious.
Why are you complaining about the combat when your not even playing it in the best way. The combat is not supposed to be a wolfeinstein gun game it is Indiana Jones and you are supposed to use the whip sneak around and punch people.
Dunno about that; stealth-focused games can still have good gunplay/combat (see: Metal Gear Solid). I think the critique here is, if you're gonna put it in the game, and actually have systems supporting this gameplay, you may as well make it good, or not have it all. Mind you, this isn't even a stealth game; the genre listed is Action-Adventure. You're describing a straight-up stealth game, in which case, why even bother with gunplay mechanics, and even so, as mentioned, you can still do it well, even if it isn't anywhere near the main focus.
Cause this guy has no clue what he’s talking about and he’s complaining to complain so he can get more clicks and that’s it’s.. this game is a masterpiece
He's trying hard to get some engagement by shitting on the game, hoping to get views from Bethesda haters and Playstation fanboys,he's not the only one there's a lot of mid YT channels trying to do the same.
very fair point! Games just need to have depth to detail, interactive response to player input, and a few paths/options, and those can exist in small places as good as they can in large open worlds.
@queuedjar4578 like comparison Between STALKER 2 to Metro Exodus yes does Exodus map seperated but gmae packed with Exploration eveey area instead walking 30 minutes straight
Hard to sympathize with his review when he seems to be picking a fight with every enemy. I'll admit the brawl combat system needs work, but this is definitely a stealth and puzzle game, not a Call of Duty. I don't think I even saw him use an enemy disguise in this video, instead he charges in guns blazing. I actually quite enjoyed this game and I'd go as far as to argue its the best thing that's been done with the franchise since the Last Crusade.
Sure, but the stealth is total trash because the enemy AI feels like 360 era. Stealth is not good when the only stealth mechanic is line of sight and your trying to avoid being seen by the intellectual equivalent of horses with blinders on. There is also no consequence for choosing one play style over the other. Every option is equally shallow and unsatisfying. The exploration is fine, the set pieces are solid, the puzzles are excellent, but the gameplay loop is atrocious. I am a big Indiana Jones fan, so on one hand I'm glad it is being received well in hopes that the franchise will do more than limp along. On the other hand, this game is about on par with the quality of the last two movies.
1.Indy should be able to carry/holster a rifle or shotgun while climbing 2.A dedicated heal button that directly applies bandage without you needing to carry it and then click to heal. Also dedicated buttons for camera or flashlight/lighter 3.Enemy headshots should be one shot kill 4.if one really wants to be stealthy, a hearing/locating or camera tagging mechanic should be included 5.while carrying guns, a melee button to hit with the gun and mouse click to shoot, without the need to click another button to change between shooting mode and melee mode Edit: I realised that all these changes are the mechanics of far cry games 😂
Yeah, I feel like Far Cry or the Shadows of Mordor games were excellent examples of how to have stealth without being a stealth game like Hitman or Thief. I think the complaint would be that those games are often too easy because of it, but I'd rather a game be fun than be so worried about difficulty that the game is just not satisfying to play. If you want more difficulty, just include difficulty options, but make the baseline a fun, punchy, satisfying experience.
Some easy improvements for the game could have been: 1: Guns do realistic damage and headshots one shot (unless your bullet hit the helmet or the enemy was a bulky guy who can take a shot to the head for a bit which I think could be scary and fun) 2: More or maybe just infinite stamina 3: Your melee does more damage 4: More choreography and staged events in boss fights. Not the entire fight, but there would be small set changes after a certain point to raise the stakes. Like in Raiders of the lost ark when indiana fought that big german dude next to the plane.
1:how about its being indiana jones game not tryina Wolfenstein Game clone. Seriously in movie like Raiders of Lost Ark indy shot about 5 people Temple of Doom he barely used gun at all Last Crusade yes we saw that epic tripple kill one point later on he checks empty revolver reinforcing fact he isnt military soldier who brings 8 speed loaders with his bottom Also good luck using guns if you failed Stealth in outpost like this guy playing theres more then that even you detected in stealth you can deal with him by punching him and knock the officers who has whistle that alerts all of people
1: It was clearly designed this way to cheap out the combat, I thought of a solution of using firearms would spawn more enemies with guns that can kill you easily, you may take out some but not everyone, this would discouraged the use of firearms even they are deadly. Personally it would be ideal to improve the AI while you are in disguise when you are doing something odd like climbing or using the whip, it's odd that they don't get suspicious of Indy doing some weird moves.
You’re in Sukhothai, the last area of the game and you have 6 stamina bars and 3 health bars. You didn’t upgrade yourself at all. No wonder you had a terrible time with combat. It’s almost like playing an RPG with a skill tree and expecting to beat the last boss with no skills and saying the combat is bad because of game design. Books give you increased stamina for fistfights, extra health, and extra firearm damage extra damage while using found items etc. I found as the game progressed and my skills progressed I relied less on stealth and I could actually run around and fistfight anyone I wanted. It was fun and it felt like I was progressing.
The guns are supposed to feel like a last resort. Indy isnt rambo. You get books that let you unlock the ability to silently take enemies down with the whip or Indy's bare fists. And getting disguises lets you avoid a lot of enemies.
I wonder if there are mods on pc that fix the combat issues. Seems like theres just a really long ttk for enemies, and if you made them a lot less squishy the game would feel better. Maybe the mod could make the enemies better shots too to incentivise disarming them
@@Bova-Fett Oh, my bad. I haven’t finished watching the video yet, but I’ve played the game for 10+ hours, and most enemies die in 2-3 punches or hits. It’s hard to believe they can tank 8 headshots.
Gunplay sucks I agree. I 100%'d the game and got all the upgrades and regardless enemies still tank a million bullets. However I disagree on the melee combat and hand to hand being shit. The ragdolls and audio for both melee and hand to hand make it extremely satisfying for me, especially since most enemies have a "respect" mechanic (Aside from captains, the pricks) where they won't take out guns unless you do. It makes non stealth melee play viable. If you play the game like a crack addled spider monkey, alternating between running across the enemy bases looking for the next melee weapon to throw or break over a fascist's head, it's extremely fun. The later upgrades you get for melee (as long as you collect them) are also a lot more expansive, so you don't have the same problem with them as you do later with guns. As long as you're actually indiana jonesing, and getting the adventure points to upgrade, you can damn near be a one man army with your fists alone.
I agree with most of your opinions for the game, how the combat is weird and unnatural a lot of the time. But, you can't really critise the combat too much and show how weak the guns are when you haven't upgraded a lot towards last major section of the game
Every single review I've watched about this game has absolutely trashed the combat, and every single time I laugh and point out that a game that came out TWENTY YEARS PRIOR (Emperor's Tomb) is still the Goat of Indy combat in a video game. You can tear through guys if you know what you're doing, but even then, you're likely to get knocked around a bit in true Indy style. Bonus points for improvised weapons such as chairs and table legs. What I really appreciate though, is how the one carryover for the great circle was the nerf dart bullets.... good god. Like, if you had picked any other feature from Emperor's Tomb, you would have been fine.
I fell down the elevator in iraq at the digsite. now i cant progress cause ginas still up on the elevator and i need her to progress and open the door:(
I do agree that there could be better ways to incentivize not using guns as much rather than making enemies bullet sponges. Either: 1. Guns cannot be picked up 2. No crosshair and gun sway/bloom being massive (think Battlefield 2 gun bloom) 3. Guns start with little ammo (could even make it tied to a book upgrade you can find) 4. Guns always have a 50% to jam each shot, except your revolver 5. Enemies nearby would try to lunge and grab you more often when you have a gun equipped to disarm you They could also buff the damage of the revolver but make the ammo rarer to find.
My problem with it is crashing. It's like playing Russian Roulette on every new area, cutscene, or interaction. I've got a decent build and tried every fix but haven't found what the issue is. I enjoy the gameplay but when it crashes my pc almost every 2 minutes I can't enjoy it
people give todd howard specifically an unreasonable amount of shit when he's just a nerdy guy who happens to be the face of 100s of people concurrently working on games
Were you playing on some kind of hard mode or was this the base difficulty? Because a lot of these criticisms line up with them just poorly making an increased difficulty setting rather than a fundamental flaw of the entire game
The melee combat almost seems bugged with how contextual the inputs are. Sometimes he'll punch, sometimes he'll push, often he'll do nothing at all. Ridiculous
They should have buffed the guns and TRUSTED the players to engage with the game however they wanted. The Metal Gear Solid series has always given players the option to throw away stealth (in a stealth game) and just run-and-gun. This has actually increased replayability, because many players will go back and attempt a stealth-only run.
Metal gear is not a licensed IP and has long been about tactical gameplay. Machine games also has to remain faithful to indy. He isnt rambo and its not CoD
Microsoft should make an big announcement and say Day 1 releases on Game Pass is over, if fans dont like it screw them, They basically paid billions for Activision and ruined that deal
Troy baker and bethesda was enough to keep me away. Then i saw the trailer and heared indy talk and i was like "no i am not interested in this" guess i wasnt alone.
I definitely don’t see how you could hate the combat so much. Melee always felt meaty with great sound effects and satisfying animations, parrying and blocking was reliable, and enemies always felt spaced out enough that whenever I was overrun by guys, I felt that it was my fault. Definitely didn’t run into the issues you were facing. Also, crazy that you barely talked about the story.
I'm in Thailand and just want this thing to end. Sure it was neat at first but the more time I spend with it, the more the cracks start to show. Especially that garbage gunplay
Personally disagree with your take as I really liked the melee combat, especially with the parry and the ability to use all sorts of melee weapons. Was curious if you used the disguises throughout the campaign cause I used em to avoid some fights which may have helped me avoid some of the tedium you experienced. Overall I feel that the game does mostly what is set out to deliver in terms of an Indy experience so I think an 8 or 9 is adequate for this game if you are less focused on combat and more on puzzles, but I can sort of see where you are coming from with your take
All games have their issues, but this one is very, very good. Machine games knows animation details and human storytelling. I absolutely can’t wait for the next Wolfenstein.
I agree this game has such a good idea but the combat system totally ruins the game. I actaually find myself enjoying the story and the areas exploration wise. But Boss battles suck ass. and the sponge bullets and low ammo was a horrific choice
Ah, the classic Bethesda trope of surviving multiple bullets to the head because bulletsponges are fun or something Not the worst they have done yet tho, no that goes to their latest 76 update where they have a section that’s a small maze with 8 invulnerable enemies that will always one hit you and you gotta fetch stuff out of the maze repeatedly, oh and there are no respawns until you finish the section
Yeah I'm just not seeing the 8 and 9's this game is getting. The gameplay killed it for me too. It's just sneak around and bop people on the head simulator. The puzzles annd tomb raiding is fine but the combat is trash. I honestly feel an uncharted clone would've sufficed whether it's unfaithful or not. Honestly I felt more like Indy as Nathan Drake than I did in his own game.
I'm forcing myself to finish this game. It's average at best. The only time I'm enjoying this game is trolling the enemy A.I. while easily killing them all. I make them chase me throughout their base and get to a high ground while I kick them one by one as they climb up. Lol
Something’s weird the comments in the video right now are the same when you criticize Bethesda like their Reddit community or toxic fans want to silence you.
I think you are spot on. The combat system is just off. The ammos are scarce, yet the damage is ASS, and it alerts the whole area of enemies. So yeah the gun is a better melee weapon than well a gun.
Worse game breaking bug ridden game I completed that I have played in years which is a shame because there was glimmers of a great game here. Avoid playing til fully patched then it will be worth investing time in.
This game is an instant classic and one of the best games of the last decade both innovative unique novel game play which other games wiil adopt in the future as well as a technical graphics marvel (first game making so good use RT technology and performing brilliantly). 2. No crosshair and gun sway/bloom being massive (think Battlefield 2 gun bloom)
3. Guns start with little ammo (could even make it tied to a book upgrade you can find)
4. Guns always have a 50% to jam each shot, except your revolver
5. Enemies nearby would try to lunge and grab you more often when you have a gun equipped to disarm you
They could also buff the damage of the revolver but make the ammo rarer to find.
Just finished the game and holy fuck, can't remember last time i played a game worth every penny. Restored faith in Bethesda
Hoped you had a Merry Christmas and have a happy New Year, Eve 🎉 😊 Doktor Skipper. I can't wait to see you in 2025 ❤
This man will do anything cept for making a detailed rdr2 video
Thank you! My assessment exactly. We have such low expectations from games now that everyone is swooning over this one
Dropped the ball on wolvenstein 2? What?
Wolfenstein 2 was a pile of shit that someone puked on
When is bro going to have a good take???
Wonder if you can mod that with PC...
The Doktor been taking some personal time after that depressing ass NBA finals
The absolute disappointment I had walking out the cinema after seeing the dial of destiny…
missed you pookie
Were you playing on some kind of hard mode or was this the base difficulty? Because a lot of these criticisms line up with them just poorly making an increased difficulty setting rather than a fundamental flaw of the entire game
The combat could work if it was more like in the last of us ?
Shit take honestly
@4bsurdo did you really like your own comment??🤣
@@4bsurdo definitely an alt
@@madcheeseburger3783 you are very insecure
@@4bsurdo 💯
Exactly
The melee combat almost seems bugged with how contextual the inputs are. Sometimes he'll punch, sometimes he'll push, often he'll do nothing at all. Ridiculous
Doktor skipper has problems
What a better way to start the year!
This game is great. One of the best games I’ve played in a long time
The first 3 movies good 4th alright 5th wtf did i watch except some scenes but the game is amazing. Lego games are peak too
They should have buffed the guns and TRUSTED the players to engage with the game however they wanted.
This take is just *idiotic.*
You’ve never seen an Indiana Jones movie y’know where brawls happen.
Microsoft should make an big announcement and say Day 1 releases on Game Pass is over, if fans dont like it screw them, They basically paid billions for Activision and ruined that deal
Rivals Update Video When?
Troy baker and bethesda was enough to keep me away. Then i saw the trailer and heared indy talk and i was like "no i am not interested in this" guess i wasnt alone.
really
really strange takes to not like this game from the beginning
Advertisement for warthunder while you told how disgusting monetization was in overwatched 2.
Sounds like crazy hypocrizy
I definitely don’t see how you could hate the combat so much. Melee always felt meaty with great sound effects and satisfying animations, parrying and blocking was reliable, and enemies always felt spaced out enough that whenever I was overrun by guys, I felt that it was my fault. Definitely didn’t run into the issues you were facing.
Also, crazy that you barely talked about the story.
I'm in Thailand and just want this thing to end. Sure it was neat at first but the more time I spend with it, the more the cracks start to show. Especially that garbage gunplay
Do a film essay video
The combat isn't bad, you're just not playing it right. It's a stealth game.
We respect your opinion, but it doesn’t mean it’s accurate
Nah your just hatin. Like every other critic. This game was a breath of fresh air for adventure games. Scartched that uncharted/tomb raider itch.
Sad as this was gonna be a good game i was gonna buy, but after this. Nope taking a pass till they fix the guns and fight machanics.
Personally disagree with your take as I really liked the melee combat, especially with the parry and the ability to use all sorts of melee weapons.
Was curious if you used the disguises throughout the campaign cause I used em to avoid some fights which may have helped me avoid some of the tedium you experienced.
Overall I feel that the game does mostly what is set out to deliver in terms of an Indy experience so I think an 8 or 9 is adequate for this game if you are less focused on combat and more on puzzles, but I can sort of see where you are coming from with your take
I'm missing some Smiling Friends and funnies over here buddy
The GOAT returns
All games have their issues, but this one is very, very good. Machine games knows animation details and human storytelling. I absolutely can’t wait for the next Wolfenstein.
I agree this game has such a good idea but the combat system totally ruins the game. I actaually find myself enjoying the story and the areas exploration wise. But Boss battles suck ass. and the sponge bullets and low ammo was a horrific choice
Wheres the bird avatar? I miss your face!
Don't mind me, just clicking for the algorithm
Eh not feeling your take on this one tbh. Also, Wolfenstein 2 is really good imo.
Ah, the classic Bethesda trope of surviving multiple bullets to the head because bulletsponges are fun or something
Not the worst they have done yet tho, no that goes to their latest 76 update where they have a section that’s a small maze with 8 invulnerable enemies that will always one hit you and you gotta fetch stuff out of the maze repeatedly, oh and there are no respawns until you finish the section
Игру разрабатываю Machine games tv то у дурак который в детстве обронили наверное да
I was happy until i saw the vid was only 13 min :(
It seems to play like the Thief games
The only one thing Bethesda is good at
Yeah I'm just not seeing the 8 and 9's this game is getting.
Lol
You’re not supposed to be stealthy and you have to actually upgrade your character, genius.
Bro finally dropped
Todd needs to get a better hair colorist. Looking very Just for Men.
The game is a 7 for me, you endure the stealth, shit AI and horrid gameplay but stay for the story and exploration.
Gameplay is fun what u talking bout
Something’s weird the comments in the video right now are the same when you criticize Bethesda like their Reddit community or toxic fans want to silence you.
The game is fine.
What a contrarian.
The combat is literally the best part of the game
It’s an awesome game, you are meant to use brains not fists
Slightly odd take on the franchise as a whole, but excellent review. This game is being massively overrated.
stay safe
Why Indiana Jones doesn’t work in America.
I think you are spot on. The combat system is just off. The ammos are scarce, yet the damage is ASS, and it alerts the whole area of enemies. So yeah the gun is a better melee weapon than well a gun.
Indiana Jones is hella fun, a bit of frame rate problems but outside of that I don't have many complaints 🫡
Worse game breaking bug ridden game I completed that I have played in years which is a shame because there was glimmers of a great game here.
Avoid playing til fully patched then it will be worth investing time in.
Dang that War Thunder sponsor really made me want to click off. Lol
This is my game of the year 9.5/10 great game. You sound like a hater
Well, his points are mostly valid, but the question is if these problems are important.
This game is an instant classic and one of the best games of the last decade both innovative unique novel game play which other games wiil adopt in the future as well as a technical graphics marvel (first game making so good use RT technology and performing brilliantly). I compare this game with the impact HL2 had in gaming.
It's on gamepass and i wouldn't waste my time with this punch walk fest.
Yawn.
Hard pass
i remember when u were a goated niche iceberg youtuber now u jus post hyper-edited video essays wit shitty opinions, u feel off vro💔💔
Mr ai shill is mad again. Who couldve guessed
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Woke 😊
