@@Roos-Reviews The main con I find with the simple timer versions without remote control is that you can't go to the room before the timer ends, you still have to wait for it to expire and that can be problematic if you forgot some important item like a phone or medicine or in case of emergency. I don't have any timer UVC lamp by the way, but only E27 ones and I either put them in place of the standard lightbulb if I want to sterilize or deodorize an entire room or in a ordinary table or desk lamp if I want do treat individual items. And in that late case I use a remote control socket. In either case I always put a warning sign on the door telling that there's a harmful UV lamp in operation inside the room and not to open the door and when I'm running it in lieu of the standard lightbulb, obviously the room light switch is controlling the germicidal lamp, so I also put a second warning sign telling not to try turning the light on like we're all used to, because it will hurt your eyes.
This is a great review! I was thinking of adding a few of these to my crawlspace under the house. I think I will do that. I'm planning on turning them on for maybe 30 minutes at a time every so often to keep mold from growing. If you think this is a good idea please leave me a reply. Thanks again for the great info! 👍
You could put them on an automatic timer too, though if it's in a crawl space I would run it for like an hour or two a day to keep the ozone concentration up, and make sure you put enough lights in to give full coverage, I'd suggest having one light every 20-25 feet or so, you need a lot of power in such a moist and dirty environment. I'll bet it will control the rats too lol. That or you'll just have a bunch of blind rats bumping around🤣.
Wanting a good one for downstairs where carpet has mites (I believe) bad smell. Also want to use one just for rooms where I can't find the mold but know its there. Disabled so I need good prices and trusted sourced. I have been ripped off by the corn cobb lamps. Over $50. Looking for good deal. Many are sold out. In USA
It's my understanding that first, uvc light can't penetrate dust or dirt. Hidden mold wouldn't be affected by the light because the surfaces that are keeping it hidden would not be penetrated. And second, the closer the uvc light is to the bacteria, virus or fungi, the more effective it is. It appears that distances more than 5 feet from the light aren't affected by the light as shown in other videos on RUclips.
UVC bulb This germicidal light can offer 30 times power ability of sunshine. It can work for bed, room space, object surface or any other places that you need to disinfect! No Bad Ozone Smell:There's no Ozone Smell when germicidal lamp work. Easy to install, Big irradiation area:Regular E26/E27 base. Very easy to install.
In doubt don't risk it and remove all those items from the room before using the UVC lamp. Or at the very least put them in drawers or closets. (Of course the same goes for plants or vegetables, pets, children and even valuables like paintings or silk clothes for example).
UVA and UVB are used on human skin to try to resolve cases of eczema and psoriasis but UVC isn't used suggesting it's too dangerous although it's shorter wavelength would mean less penetration into the skin than UVA and UVB.Humans aren't adapted to UVC as it all gets absorbed in the Stratosphere. The main one we encounter is UVA but some UVB gets down to the surface particularly in the Tropics .
I've used a similar lamp and it left a smell in the room. It's been hours since we turned it off and aired it out, would you know if that smell is toxic/harmful to breathe?
This light not only produces Ozone but it breaks tiny microbes and organisms amd even some materials into molecules. The lasting smell is probably that molecular level burnt smell. As for Ozon, the smell is strong but it doesn’t last. U don’t event have to vent it. Ozon is not stable breaks apart by itself within an hour or so turns back into standard O2
Every germicidal lamp on the market recommends to vent the room for 30-60 mins after using the lamp because it creates ozone, and it's harmful to breathe. Safest bet is to get a lamp with a wavelength between 240-280 nm, anything below 240 nm will create ozone. However, many UV bulbs will have fluctuating wavelength, so even if it's supposed to be above 240 nm, it still may drop below 240 and create ozone. A rule of thumb, always vent the room after using UV lamps.
@@twentytwo138 Is it really necessary to vent the room even if the lamp didn't produce any ozone ? (I know it doesn't since ozone has its own distinctive bleachy smell and not all my germicidal lamps produce it).
@@kwekiejekie3820 Or even more high-tech than that, a RF remote control outlet. That's what I use with my germicidal lamp so I don't have to worry about managing the power cord through the closed door of the room.
I want to use this for cleaning a Gray water treatment plant. I am thinking of mounting a 30w UVC light bulb in the air above a water reservoir, 40x40cm (1.3x1.3ft). Will the light kill bacteria on the surface and down in the water? I'm not going to have the light inside a cylinder like many others use, just in the air above the surface of the water.
Sorry, I can't advise you on a use case like that. I'm not sure how deeply UVC at this intensity would penetrate water from above the surface or how effective that would be for water sanitisation.
That "sunburn" you got in your eyes from welding... it felt like sandpaper in your eyeballs didn't it? It happened to me once. I'd rather lose a finger than have that happen again.
Thank you for this information. However, I'm not clear if I should buy one with or without ozone. Would prefer without only reason is not to have to deal with smell. I have a bad dust mite allergy and that's all I'm really concerned about. Should I buy one with or without ozone? Amazon sells both and which Amazon link should I choose so you can get credit? Thank you again for your video and advice.
The light itself will kill small bugs if they are directly exposed to it for long enough and the light will also keep mold from growing on surfaces it shines on. The ozone gas produced by the light kills mold in the air where light doesn't reach. I've been using the same lamp in my basement (15 minutes per day) for 3 years to keep the mold away.
Hey great video. And thanks for including the DON’Ts in it. As it is the don’ts which are more useful for your protection. i have roach problem in my friends house. Anyways, i am planning to place this UVC bulb in his kitchen and bathroom. Like at night would leave them on and as roaches 🪳 spread germs at night so would it be beneficial or any other cautions???
Yes the Ozone-free one would be safer, but unfortunately I can't advise you on its ability to help with the cockroach problem. I use these lights for mould.
@@Roos-Reviews yes of course, by roach problem i meant to say the bacteria left by the roaches. Not the roaches itself. Anyways thanks for sharing and again very informative video.
I don't think I would do it. UVC can cause plastics to release unpleasant gaseous compounds that might affect the food if done regularly. Plus you'd get a breath of Ozone every time you opened the door.
I read that ozone will be created if it's below 240 nm, so maybe try between 240-280 nm.. However it is said that UV bulbs can have fluctuating wavelengths, so even if the bulb is supposed to be above 240 nm, it still may drop below 240 nm
Hi, I'm looking for this topic because I grow plants inside my room. I have a pendant lamp with a single bulb, today I put one in it and after doing some research I found out that these lights are perfect for plant growth, so I thought it would be a good idea to buy a UV bulb and put it next to the others two normal bulbs but what I'm asking you now is…will it negatively affect me in any way? Cheers
@@Roos-Reviews Yes, but I was so desperate to get an answer like "no, you'll be fine" I had a lot of plans with this bulb and having my plans fall apart doesn't sit well with me. I already realized that I will not be able to use that bulb, a shame really.
Being in the same room with the bulb on would cause skin, eye, lung and possibly mucous membrane damage. There are LED bulbs intended for growing plants and they are safe to be around and quite affordable too. Can you buy some of those instead? This UVC bulb is only intended for disinfecting use and not safe to be around when it's on
On UVC germicidal lights remote operation easiest is a plug in cord outside the room . Also a timer and door sign informing of danger exchange air in room for 30 to 60 minutes .
My eyes are in the most pain imagineable right now because of one of these. I was in the next room over with a csrbonfilter running and it still messed me up. Be careful with these my friends.
They need to put a warning on all these lamps that really stands out, before someone plugs it in for the first time just to see if it works and they haven't read the instructions yet. I stared for a minute or two at mine, thank goodness mine has a motion detector on it and helped limit the exposure. I had no idea these things could hurt your eyes or skin. I looked at mine about an hour ago, as of right now my eyes feel fine. I'll update tomorrow. As for the smell, the place smells pretty bad at the moment and I'm airing it out. I'm sorry I bought this damn thing.
I agree about the warning, definitely. Not everyone thinks to research them before buying them. A lot of them do come with instructions that include a warning, but not all. The pain is something people never forget. It's quite something. I hope you did not experience it.
@@Roos-Reviews It's been 24 hours now and my eyes are fine. Even though I looked at that light from about two feet away for a combined exposure time of somewhere between 30 seconds and one minute I never got any pain. I was afraid when I woke up this morning there would be a delayed reaction but that never happened. I'm debating on whether or not I'm going to chuck this thing.
Is it possible to have ultraviolet rays irradiated inside a box with fans pumping air into and out of the box? Contaminated air is pumped into the box, sterilized by the UV rays, then pumped out of the box to the room where the box is located. The advantage are: 1. people can safely be in the same room with the box without the risk of being exposed to harmful ultraviolet light. 2. you can use the air-conditioner normally without worrying about temperature or circulation of air. 3. you can safely be in the room without the risk of getting infected by COVID-19 or other airborne viruses. The air inside the room is constantly sterilized by the box. The box should be small, preferably portable. Such a box does not sterilize surfaces, only the air inside a room. Surfaces should be sterilized normally with desinfectant and cloth. Right now there is no way to safely sterilize the air inside a room. You have to open the windows to ensure good circulation of air. But during the winter and summer you need to close the windows and use the air-conditioner to have an ameniable temperature inside the room. Most air-conditioners simply recirculate the existing air inside the room, instead of pumping clean air from outdoors. If someone in the room is infected and shedding viruses into the air, the air gets more and more contaminated. But a UV box that sterilizes the air while allowing the presence of people and the use of air-conditioner could be the solution.
There are air purifiers on the market which contain UVC bulbs which do not produce ozone and so are safe to use in occupied rooms. I have such a device. The bulb is inside, hidden from sight. I don't know how effective it is in real practice but they are available on Amazon.
@@Roos-Reviews Do you know how they manage to get air in and out of the device but not any light or UVC rays ? I mean if I were to put a bulb inside a closed box and say drill some holes or put grills to let air pass, I'm sure it would also let some light out which is obviously not good.
If the box is inside another box and both boxes have holes but the holes are misaligned there would not be a problematic amount of light coming out, I guess. My air purifier has the bulb deep inside it. I can't see it from the outside and I can't see the light apart from a very faint glow when the room is dark.
@@Roos-Reviews Thank's for the reply... More than a year later 😂 I just got a developing tank for photographic film and its lid comes with a hole that allows liquids (But also air) to pass whilst keeping light out, otherwise it would ruin the film inside. According to a video from Technology Connections it's because some sort of clever maze is molded inside the lid of the developing tank. So I suppose now that air purifiers come with similar designs to allow air to pass through whilst keeping harmful UV-C rays inside.

There's no safe distance, you don't want to be exposed to UVC at all no matter how powerful the lamp is it will still be harmful to your skin and eyes. Just close the door of the room where you have the lamp and turn it on and off remotely.
I would like to purchase a bulb like that. I didn’t find the link. Could you provide the link or some information as to where I can buy that particular bulb.
Roo's Reviews thanks for everything. I have a handheld 35 watt GermAway unit that I bought from cureuv.com. It was quite an expensive purchase. I use it to pass over nearly everything that enters the front door. Groceries, lottery tickets, mail, receipts, currency, etc. I also made a foil lined disinfection box that I fit the lamp in the ceiling. I want to get another bulb to try to devise a unit that I can pass currency and other paper items through the open area between the lamp tubes using little rubber rollers. A unit that will disinfect both sides of the bills at the same time. I’ll see what I come up with. And once again, thanks for your help
I admire your effort to keep it clean, but if you start living a completely sterile life you won't build immunity, and then you may become sick as soon as you go out. You need to let some bacteria enter your body to build immunity. (not counting covid)
Hey you are not wearing enough protection for your body, you need to cover the skin fully, like wearing a non permeable leather or thick clothe, just wearing a t shirt is not enough, the light goes right past gaps in the weaving. This is how you get melanoma, which can very easily progress to cancer.
I think this is a bit of an overreaction. Stupid government regulations. Don’t look directly at the sun, don’t look directly at this stupid thing. Get out of the room, for a while. Big deal.
@@Roos-Reviews nop! Because UVA and UVB is so much stronger that ozone layer does not absorb 100% of UV-A and UV-B rays before they reach our surface... UV-C is different
The UVC bulb in my video will cause severe eye and skin damage if exposed for even just ten minutes. On the other hand, UVB and UVA bulbs are widely used for tanning and are much less damaging than UVC bulbs. Many tanning bulbs actually have UVC filters to block the UVC from reaching our skin because it is too dangerous. I don’t know why you are disputing this. It’s a very simple and widely understood science. This UVC bulb will definitely burn human skin and eyes. We are exposed to UVB and UVA every time we walk in the sun and we don’t become blind or suffer severe skin blistering every day. The Earth’s atmosphere blocks the majority of UVC from reaching us. If it did not block any UVC , we would all have to live underground otherwise we would die within a short time.
@@Roos-Reviews thats why uvb and uva was banned for people tanning in many places like here in Brazil...dont get me wrong, like...all 3 types are dangerous if use in skin or eyes
This is wrong. UV-C light cannot penetrate the upper layer of the epidermis (skin). It can barely do so in the upper range of the UV-C spectrum, but not to an extent that can cause skin damage. "it is clear that the outermost layer of skin (i.e., the human stratum corneum) strongly attenuates UV-C radiation such that very little UV-C radiation reaches the germinative, basal layer of the epidermis, where the DNA would have to be altered to potentially initiate skin cancer (CIE, 2010; Barnard et al., 2020; Cadet, 2020; Forbes et al., 2020). it is clear that the outermost layer of skin (i.e., the human stratum corneum) strongly attenuates UV-C radiation such that very little UV-C radiation reaches the germinative, basal layer of the epidermis, where the DNA would have to be altered to potentially initiate skin cancer (CIE, 2010; Barnard et al., 2020; Cadet, 2020; Forbes et al., 2020)." Best info on this topic that I have found -thank you
Buy a timer lamp base. You set it fo whatever time you want the lamp to operate hit delay start and get out.
Yes I have 3 of those. But I bought this one before UVC lamps were cool and all the timer versions went mainstream.
Thanks a lot mate, great review - very informative 👍
I'm glad it helped. Thanks for the feedback.
That's exactly what I use it for, but in the basement. I run it for about 10 minutes a few times per week.
Hey, where can I found the piano theme at 3:05? Please
I make the music for these videos myself.
Excellent video, thank you for posting
How long we need to open up the window and how long we need to wait until it's safe please 🙏
15-30 minutes
UVC bulb This germicidal light can offer 30 times power ability of sunshine. It can work for bed, room space, object surface or any other places that you need to disinfect!
No Bad Ozone Smell:There's no Ozone Smell when germicidal lamp work.
Easy to install, Big irradiation area:Regular E26/E27 base. Very easy to install.
Uvc cannot damages things inside glass and or plastic bottles? Like wine, liquor and medicine?
In doubt don't risk it and remove all those items from the room before using the UVC lamp. Or at the very least put them in drawers or closets.
(Of course the same goes for plants or vegetables, pets, children and even valuables like paintings or silk clothes for example).
Do hospitals use UVC germicidal lighting and if not why?
Yes they use it to sterilise certain things.
Thanks 😮for sharing never to look at a UVC light, never to be in the same room with it on and don’t enter the room 45 minutes after sterilization
Thank you so much 🙏
UVA and UVB are used on human skin to try to resolve cases of eczema and psoriasis but UVC isn't used suggesting it's too dangerous although it's shorter wavelength would mean less penetration into the skin than UVA and UVB.Humans aren't adapted to UVC as it all gets absorbed in the Stratosphere. The main one we encounter is UVA but some UVB gets down to the surface particularly in the Tropics .
I've used a similar lamp and it left a smell in the room. It's been hours since we turned it off and aired it out, would you know if that smell is toxic/harmful to breathe?
If you watch the video I explain what that smell is.
Ozone
I'm thinking.... put this in lamp, use extension cord, plug in from outside
I do the same.
Just us a timing-switch. On aliexpress they sell them combined with a remote.
@@kwekiejekie3820 Or even more high-tech than that, a RF remote control outlet.
That's what I use with my germicidal lamp so I don't have to worry about managing the power cord through the closed door of the room.
Fyi, unfortunately the USA links don't work anymore. 🤔
Thanks for letting me know. And yes, I prefer the ozone producing variant of these bulbs for the reason you mentioned.
What are the best brands with mercury ?
Good presentation and useful information
I want to use this for cleaning a Gray water treatment plant. I am thinking of mounting a 30w UVC light bulb in the air above a water reservoir, 40x40cm (1.3x1.3ft). Will the light kill bacteria on the surface and down in the water? I'm not going to have the light inside a cylinder like many others use, just in the air above the surface of the water.
Sorry, I can't advise you on a use case like that. I'm not sure how deeply UVC at this intensity would penetrate water from above the surface or how effective that would be for water sanitisation.
Ok. Thanks for the answer.
That "sunburn" you got in your eyes from welding... it felt like sandpaper in your eyeballs didn't it? It happened to me once. I'd rather lose a finger than have that happen again.
It was extremely painful. I've injured my eyes several times in other ways too and I find eyes to be among the most painful body parts to injure.
Light can not access all places unlike ozone. With ozone it's better
Can the ozone these produce be harmful to plants?
Dude did it eliminate the musty smell in your basement?
Yeah it smells like an ocean breeze after I use it.
For how many minutes? And how many times?
Jake, did you end up buying it? I want to add a few to my crawlspace.
Thanks!
Hi can they kill mites or flies or bedbugs or mold ?
Thanks kindly
The light itself will kill small bugs if they are directly exposed to it for long enough and the light will also keep mold from growing on surfaces it shines on. The ozone gas produced by the light kills mold in the air where light doesn't reach. I've been using the same lamp in my basement (15 minutes per day) for 3 years to keep the mold away.
@@Roos-Reviews What about using mirrors or reflective surfaces to help the light reach more parts? Would that work?
I got the ones from Coospider on Amazon. The 25 watt, 110 volts with the base. I'm wondering if this one emits UVC or if it's fake.
I'm not sure exactly which light you're talking about. Can you link me?
I'm using one right now, and I can confirm that it's producing a bunch of ozone, so I'm assuming it's working just fine on the UV-C front
Same one I got. The pain in my eyes and the smell suggests it is not fake 😂.
I would not do that in my home as the build up of ozone would reach toxic levels if the bulb was left on for long.
@@Roos-Reviews thanks for the fast reply. But in that case if we use a Non Ozone uvc bulb ???
Yes the Ozone-free one would be safer, but unfortunately I can't advise you on its ability to help with the cockroach problem. I use these lights for mould.
@@Roos-Reviews yes of course, by roach problem i meant to say the bacteria left by the roaches. Not the roaches itself. Anyways thanks for sharing and again very informative video.
HI, really enjoyed the review. Can i use some ofnthr clips from this video for a UVC toilet project im working on?
I would like to make this work at least 5 minutes in a fridge to kill air microbes which enter when opening the fridge. What do you think?
I don't think I would do it. UVC can cause plastics to release unpleasant gaseous compounds that might affect the food if done regularly. Plus you'd get a breath of Ozone every time you opened the door.
Need 30 minuets and several tries
Dark lens Welding glass can protect uvc light?
The glass in welding masks protect the eyes from UVC damage.
So is the ozone one better for AC use or not?
Not
The links don’t work. There are so many bad reviews. I need the best one for in home use.
Good video! Thanks!!!!!!!
Thank you.
Can you link to a non ozone emitting germicidal lamp?
any UV-C CFL tube
@@soundspark Yes, that is correct. Bud those non ozone are hard to come by. But few products just pop up here
I read that ozone will be created if it's below 240 nm, so maybe try between 240-280 nm.. However it is said that UV bulbs can have fluctuating wavelengths, so even if the bulb is supposed to be above 240 nm, it still may drop below 240 nm
Thank you.
Cheers
Did you watch the video?
@@Roos-Reviews Yes, but I was so desperate to get an answer like "no, you'll be fine" I had a lot of plans with this bulb and having my plans fall apart doesn't sit well with me. I already realized that I will not be able to use that bulb, a shame really.
Being in the same room with the bulb on would cause skin, eye, lung and possibly mucous membrane damage. There are LED bulbs intended for growing plants and they are safe to be around and quite affordable too. Can you buy some of those instead? This UVC bulb is only intended for disinfecting use and not safe to be around when it's on
I’m going to mount one to the inside of my furnace return 🤓
I thought about doing the same, a non-ozone lamp of course. But I decided not to.
Buy one with remote control 🙏
On UVC germicidal lights remote operation easiest is a plug in cord outside the room . Also a timer and door sign informing of danger exchange air in room for 30 to 60 minutes .
Good info to have
My eyes are in the most pain imagineable right now because of one of these.
COOL 😎
Is it possible to have ultraviolet rays irradiated inside a box with fans pumping air into and out of the box?
Contaminated air is pumped into the box, sterilized by the UV rays, then pumped out of the box to the room where the box is located.
The advantage are:
1. people can safely be in the same room with the box without the risk of being exposed to harmful ultraviolet light.
2. you can use the air-conditioner normally without worrying about temperature or circulation of air.
3. you can safely be in the room without the risk of getting infected by COVID-19 or other airborne viruses.
@@Roos-Reviews Do you have links to those products?
More than a year later 😂
I just got a developing tank for photographic film and its lid comes with a hole that allows liquids (But also air) to pass whilst keeping light out, otherwise it would ruin the film inside.
According to a video from Technology Connections it's because some sort of clever maze is molded inside the lid of the developing tank.
So I suppose now that air purifiers come with similar designs to allow air to pass through whilst keeping harmful UV-C rays inside.
Roo i use a ozone generator to remove odors, purify the air & etc. It's will be much safer to operate.
Will this kill the fungus in my shoes ??
If you really have fungus growing in your shoes I would suggest getting new shoes. But yes, UVC can kill fungus if used correctly.
@@Roos-Reviews I let my uncle borrow my shoes n I don't wanna risk catching fungus so I'm thinking bout buying this lamp to clean , this lamp in like 20$ vs my Jordan's are 160
Are these still sold to European countries now ?
Hey 1 question, can UVB and UVA bulbs create ozone? For example 280 nm? I read somewhere that it needs to be below 240 nm to create ozone, is it true?
No, only cheapy chinese UVC aka germicidal bulbs will create ozone. UVA and UVB bulbs definitely can't !
Hi! new subscriber here, why would you save you time from using the the helmet, in your video, if you would have bought the light that comes with the remote control ?.....
Because you can leave the room and then turn on the light remotely. That way there's no need to protect your skin and eyes.
How far safety distance of 20watt uvc t8 non ozone lamp when operate?
There's no safe distance, you don't want to be exposed to UVC at all no matter how powerful the lamp is it will still be harmful to your skin and eyes.
Just close the door of the room where you have the lamp and turn it on and off remotely.
out of the room
I would like to purchase a bulb like that. I didn’t find the link. Could you provide the link or some information as to where I can buy that particular bulb.
Hi, there are some links in the description. I've copied them into a comment and pinned it under the video too.
(not counting covid)
excuseme, what literature or research do you read to making this video
no offens but i really need to know.
Every webpage on internet about UV-C? It is technology used for decades.
Tool Klean makes a great lamp and has NO ozone.
You didn't have to make it so grim 😂

I would definitely choose Gal gadot saving me from the virus.
The ozone ones also will kill your houseplants and turn your bananas left on the counter black.
Hi
Hello
How can we be sure the bulb is real UVC and not some painted scam bulb?
You will smell the Ozone it produces.
Hey you are not wearing enough protection for your body, you need to cover the skin fully, like wearing a non permeable leather or thick clothe, just wearing a t shirt is not enough, the light goes right past gaps in the weaving. This is how you get melanoma, which can very easily progress to cancer.
Yes it's dangerous indeed.
It also destroys plants

only uva and uvb are dangerous, uv-c is not that agressive...just read studies
You have that confused. UVC is much more destructive to organic matter than UVA or UVB.
You said “only uva and uvb are dangerous”. That’s just not true. Anyway, have a good weekend.
This is wrong. UV-C light cannot penetrate the upper layer of the epidermis (skin). It can barely do so in the upper range of the UV-C spectrum, but not to an extent that can cause skin damage.
"it is clear that the outermost layer of skin (i.e., the human stratum corneum) strongly attenuates UV-C radiation such that very little UV-C radiation reaches the germinative, basal layer of the epidermis, where the DNA would have to be altered to potentially initiate skin cancer (CIE, 2010; Barnard et al., 2020; Cadet, 2020; Forbes et al., 2020). it is clear that the outermost layer of skin (i.e., the human stratum corneum) strongly attenuates UV-C radiation such that very little UV-C radiation reaches the germinative, basal layer of the epidermis, where the DNA would have to be altered to potentially initiate skin cancer (CIE, 2010; Barnard et al., 2020; Cadet, 2020; Forbes et al., 2020)."
