The manuscript for 'Sumer Is Icumen In' was discovered in Reading Abbey, founded by King Henry I in 1121 and once one of Europe’s largest royal monasteries. The document dates from around 1261 and is the earliest known example of secular, polyphonic music.
Stunning illustrations - absolutely beautiful and the music is as always magical.
Many thanks!
Simply the best.
Thank you John.
Hilary seems incredibly gifted all around, as a multi-instrumentalist, an artist, a great singer,
story teller and much more I'm sure! I stumbled upon Simon as a mandolin player myself
just recently and I sure am glad to have discovered both of them. Simon has great style.
Thank you for all your lovely comments. Glad you found us!

Fabulous! Thanks for spreading the joy !!!
Thank you, we enjoyed making it.
Lovely
Brilliantly done. Bravo. Just think if Reading still had the equivalent of Peterborough Cathedral how that would have influenced the development of the town.
Doesn't bear thinking about!
Totally glorious, congratulations! Very fond of this song and teach it often. Why did you choose not to include the low repeat harmony 'sing cucou loude sing cucou' by the way?
Really appreciate such a lovely comment - thanks. We decided not to start with the low harmony, but it does appear - male voice at 0'48''. There's a lot going on, so easy to miss! Simon.
brilliant
very good and much better than the mechanical device in the Abbey
Great they restored the Abbey ruins... but so sad it was ever destroyed - just think of all the glorious music that could have resonated there down the centuries!!
@europhile26, I agree! But I like that I already have heard the tune and see it compared here
Thanks guys, we miss having you visit on this side of the pond. Come to Vermont 82% vaxed!
Thanks Art! Great to hear from you and hope to see you too once we're allowed..
