If you ever travel to Japan and see a man staring at a tree, the sky, a lake or something like that, he's not schizophrenic, its not a mental disorder, he's just working for Grand Seiko. And thats a stunner of a watch, congrats!
The dial is a MAJOR inspiration for buying any watch. Few would wear a watch with a spectacular movement but a dial they find off-putting. The reverse can rarely be said. And this watch has awesome accuracy. Congratulations on your new acquisition!
I love high end quartz! I am a The Citizen guy, but that is purely personal choice and I think the GS quartz are absolutely top shelf. Congratulations on the beautiful watch!
Elizabeth you are truly amazing. What a breath of fresh air for someone like you to show on the scene. You have great insight of the watch world and information you share is accurate and your opinions are honest. Great content and thanks for keeping it real. Wish you all the best with this channel which I am sure will reach great heights. Remember keep it real if I can kindly offer you some sound advice.
I totally identify with the Dexter-like urge periodically rising like an overwhelming obsession, the dark passenger awaking and needing a kill, errrr… a watch purchase. That’s exactly it! Congrats on the new watch, I love it.
Another great video! I'm a massive fan of high-accuracy Quartz. I wish more brands would put that kind of effort into their Quartz movements. Plus Grand Seiko dials are just gorgeous.
What I love about grand seiko is they take cues from Japanese culture and landscape. Not many other makers can say that. What I love about 9f is you can get them for $1.5k on ebay. Are those Allen Edmonds Strands? Love them. Enjoy the watch (and the shoes).
"Rolex might have" Okay, that got a real laugh from me. I'm happy that you have a GS now. I agree with you about quartz watches also. There are quartz movements that can be purchased for less than a dollar, I think they are trash. But there are also quartz movements that are really well made and beautiful, I love those. I also understand the bit about Seiko limited editions, sometimes it becomes frustrating because it seems like it's all they want to produce. But then Seiko produced a limited edition chronograph for the World Athletic Championships first time being in the US. I swore I would never buy a limited edition Seiko, but the lure of a gorgeous chronograph, and the knowledge that there are only 400 of them sucked me in. Now, $3200 dollars later, I have number 234 of 400. Seiko can be sneaky with the limited edition stuff. The chrono came with a bracelet and a leather strap, the bracelet doesn't quite fit right, and the leather strap might be worse than the one that came with my Alpinist. And I love the watch anyway. That's Seiko in a nutshell.
OMG i love that intro! Imagine having the budget from the bigger RUclipsrs to do your videos, that will be insane! Congratulations on your new purchase! :D
Just epic! Never apologise for acquiring a quartz watch. You picked a superb watch. Observant cognoscenti will notice that single gold star, subtly raise an eyebrow, then make eye contact and smile. Enjoy!
Great video, Elizabeth, thank you 😊👍Nearly half my humble collection is quartz, but I prefer mechanical. Not a question of quality, just prefer the ticking sound and see the balance wheel turning. That said, this watch is BEAUTIFUL, love the finish and yeah the display back is unique and quite attractive 👍
Got an Slga017 last week, super honeymoon period still, it’s snowy, and it’s hot 🔥 😉 Tried the sea of clouds and the Ginza blue auto as well when I was choosing. Both were stunning. Anyway, was concerned re fit for my tiny 15.5cm wrist - but my band is screw links and has a several short and several long links that are removable. By mixing combosof the short and long I found perfection in fit. Did you get the full length of bracelet to work with? Mix and matching the 2 lengths of link was the key in my case!
Congrats on your new purchase! I don't mind quartz especially 9f ones. But I'm leaning more towards a Spring Drive since it's a one of a kind movement from GS.
Have a Grand seiko quartz very happy with it . a Seiko LX titanium spring drive had it over 3 years, prefer it more than my Omega Seamaster, draws no attentio, an are super accurate . Much more than the Omega Seamaster. If you can , a Seiko Spring Drive get one
Hands down, I love your videos. Congratulations on your new addition. I know quartz gets a bad rap especially in the higher price points but it will be accurate, ready to go when you are and easy to maintain. A Grand Seiko is on my radar as well and their quartz options are hard to ignore. I'm with you on the micro adjustments as well though 😤 It is a beautiful watch. Best always...
Excellent video. Just discovered the channel. Subscribed. Good news on Seiko's poetic explanation. Indeed it isn't BS. When climbing Mt Etna in 2006, there was a blanket of low lying cloud around the volcano and yes, the blue sky does reflect off the cloud tops giving them a distinctive blue tint. It doesn't just happen in Japan though. Nice watch too. Good purchase!
Gorgeous watch! I got this same watch as my first Grand Seiko too! I'm happy with the bracelet though, I just let it be on the loose side and that's quite comfortable for me.
@@elizabeth_grant fair enough. Good thing you like it on a strap! Might be personal preference, but I don't find it looks oversized on a bracelet on my small 6inch/15cm wrist. I do wish GS made more smaller watches though, especially with the spring drive!
i very much like your description on the parallel/similarity between watch enthusiast buying a new watch with that of serial killer..... every once a while.... we need to do it again !
I love that quartz is back in style in higher end watches. There’s something awesome about high precision quartz movements, and they shouldn’t be looked down in comparison to mechanical watches.
Hi Elizabeth. Great review as usual and the appearance of the watch is just beautiful. Unfortunately quartz movements just leave me cold. I think this is one watch that could do without an exhibition case back. If it don't tick, on my wrist it won't stick.😊
@@elizabeth_grant like , come on Grand Seiko. you spent so much great time and effort on the case, the dial , the movement, but you neglect the bracelet? if they were to redesign their bracelets and actually make the wearing experience much better, I don't see how the masses won't say "no" to Grand Seiko anymore. hahaha
As an owner of a Momiji and the Sea of Clouds, my condolences and congratulations. Great video. I feel like you summed up not just the watch but the brand, hitting on all the little things about GS that irk, and a lot of the things that make GS a pleasure to own. Welcome to the cult~
Congratulations on the beautiful watch! I was able to buy one though a dealer here in the states. Great watch to pick up and go. I use this one to set the time on my autos. It sits next to my spring drives. Real watch geek fun to watch the 2nd hand on the 3 of them! For me the bracelet works fine. I like to ware mine a bit loose. The dial on this watch is the same as my sbga413, shunbun. ......only light blue. Over all a stunner of a watch! This is one you can't say....it is only a quartz.
You hit the nail, the marketing of Seiko & various other watchmakers know their target market well, to the point where it’s not an object you’re buying but a philosophy. Rolex represents a certain type of client which Omega isn’t, both watches are great but represents certain qualities to the eyes of this client. Your sketch was point on 😂 Seiko dials for all Grand Seikos are to die for, the accuracy of yours is quite outstanding. They are innovators in the exhibition see-thru back👌❤️👍 for quartz, I personally would like this on every quality quartz watch, this would allow the public to admire the inner-works(& battery condition: possible leakage before it’s too late 👍❤️👌) Bracelets are always a 🤯mind boggling game: I have big wrist, I have the same problem. I like my bracelet tight: when impacts are given I’ve seen them cut skin 😮, thus no play-no cuts. Even with 1/2 links the fitting is 💩, diver watches can be micro adjustable thru the clasp 👍. You have a beautiful & wonderful watch: a Grand Seiko 👌❤️👍, have opened our eyes 👀 on quality exceptional quartz movements 👌. Thanks for your quick review, John
How awesome is that; there are three tiers in your watch setup in regards of pricing, your designers have made an absolute killer of a dial and for some reason GS decides too put it in the line of the least expensive one! Name one other brand who would do that.... my next watch is going to be a quartz and not just a quartz but a killer quartz.
you were smart to get the quartz... I have a Hi-Beat "White Birch" and it keeps no better than +30 seconds a day... after two attempts to regulate it with GS... I'm going to be replacing it with a spring drive.. they have work to do on their mechanical hi-beat movement.
I loved the intro to this Elizabeth, I'm sure many of us can relate to it. Congratulations on the new GS purchase, it looks fantastic. Personally I don't care if the movement is a quartz or a mechanical as long as it's well made and pretty accurate and the movement in your watch certainly is. 5 seconds per year is nuts! But you still have to set it for daylight saving time and back but I think you can do that without stopping the 9F85movement. I'm probably wrong but I think the star on the dial indicates the super accurate movement inside. This watch also looks great on a strap, much better than I would have thought. I don't have a GS yet but maybe will at some point in the future.
I first saw your videos when looking at different shoes and boots. I’m also into watches, and yes. Grand Seiko does make a much better watch than Rolex. In every objective scenario. Nice watch by the way.
Congrats ! I recently purchased a GS Sport GMT quartz SBGN003 mode myself l as I wanted a GMT option. 9f is a proper watchmaker grade quartz movement. So handy to have as your grab 'n go watch that will be always dead accurate. And yes I agree GS bracelets are crap. I've also owned a spring drive SBGE255. The clasp on that was like a cheap tuna can
Thats a banger dial. I once heard a cooking expert say he admitted to judging a person if they wore quartz. Which tells me he's not a watch expert. I only recently bought my first quartz, an homage of the Paul Newman Daytona. It came with a ceramic bezel and synth sapphire crystal with a Seiko Mecaquartz....for $99. Why do we spend crazy money on watches again? I've been sporting a Seiko GMT from the Pressage line, the white asanoha hemp leaf pattern with the blue Diashield bezel. It's losing about 5-8 seconds a day. The finishing is so good I'm tempted to jump into that Grand Seiko Hi-Beat Peacock special edition or the bamboo green. I'm wearing the Seiko on a navy elastic paratrooper strap, my default for all sports watches as it keeps the watch head perfectly centered on the flat part of my wrist while still being just loose enough for comfort.
If you ever travel to Japan and see a man staring at a tree, the sky, a lake or something like that, he's not schizophrenic, its not a mental disorder, he's just working for Grand Seiko.
And thats a stunner of a watch, congrats!
That's funny and thanks.
No need to justify buying a quartz watch, let alone a GS quartz watch. The watch is great.
Indeed!
The dial is a MAJOR inspiration for buying any watch. Few would wear a watch with a spectacular movement but a dial they find off-putting. The reverse can rarely be said. And this watch has awesome accuracy. Congratulations on your new acquisition!

Quartz are okay as long as the seconds hand hits the markers spot on. Then you know you have a well made watch with a topnotch quartz movement.
Mine does. But when I film at different angles it doesn't always look like it.

Gorgeous watch! I got this same watch as my first Grand Seiko too! I'm happy with the bracelet though, I just let it be on the loose side and that's quite comfortable for me.

It ticks.....60 times a minute :)

Congrats!! That's the one I wanted & eluded me... Love the dial. The accuracy is crazy @ +-5 secs per year😎✌️

Thats a banger dial. I once heard a cooking expert say he admitted to judging a person if they wore quartz. Which tells me he's not a watch expert.
