      I understand that the list is personal and I agree with this, but I think that The game should be among the first positions since I see that many people do not understand what its essence really is. Especially when you explain what the movie is about, you are totally wrong like many others.

      @@jamesg8175 Yeah, the pacing of Se7en is also perfect. I remember watching it for the first time, I was on the edge of my seat the entire time and it just flew by. Also, compared to Zodiac, Se7en is way more rewatchable. I’ve probably watched Se7en like 50 times, but Zodiac only about 3. The pacing in Zodiac wasn’t as good either-it felt like it dragged in parts.

  • @edwardwhite4015
    @edwardwhite4015 10 месяцев назад +23

    While watching 'Zodiac' I just assumed that the basement scene was fictional and was only added to increase the tension. However, I read the history and found out that the event actually happened.

    • @SullyStreams

      I seriously think that’s one of the most bone chilling scenes ever put to film in a non-horror movie. It gives me chills every time I watch it. Fincher is the modern master of tension!

      @SullyStreams Yeah, I used to have Panic Room as my only bad David Fincher movie, but over the years, I've warmed up to it. I gotta watch The Killer again, but I didn't like it after my first viewing. Technically well made, but narratively below the standards of a master like Fincher. As of right now, I have it as his worst, honestly.

SHOCK!* But I adore Seven, Fight Club and Gone Girl. Also really enjoyed his most recent, The Killer. But I have another confession... Im quite a big fan of his Alien 3 movie *gasp* I just love his use of the camera in the movie and how he brought the world to life. Adored the lighting and score. I felt he did a great job at capturing a gritty, dread filled atmosphere. I know I am in the minority here.

    The release date for Zodiac is what killed its Oscar chances I think. It deserved every award and its a shame it was overlooked. Ruffalo deserved a nom as did every other aspect of the film. The run time limited its commercial appeal too cause its a slow methodical film and audiences are impatient. I also have seen it about ten times or more because its masterful and never fails to engage me. The Game also deserved a better reception. That film is amazing!

      @@SullyStreams It blew my mind when I saw it, it seemed like one of the best movies of that year (I didn't even know it was by the same director of Seven). Rarely have I felt more empathy for a protagonist, seeing him have such a hard time and not knowing what to think, being totally trapped by the story. The scene of the talking television and the clown's eye camera have remained in my memory forever. But there are others that are very shocking and see how everything falls apart; like the painted walls of the house at night that are very sinister. It is my favorite theme, the mystery that plays with you to the point of driving you crazy (total recall, matrix, open your eyes, Jacob's Ladder...), not knowing what is happening, that it is real. It is also the role that I like the most of Michael Douglas, and my top 3 perfect Fincher movies, of which I would give a 10!, until Gone Girl came along. I think Fincher is the only director alive who could tell this (somewhat tricky) story and come out successful. The other would be Hitchcock, but he is no longer with us.

The Killer has so many subtle meanings and hints in its script and i've picked up a bunch of things on my 2nd and 3rd watch. It was certainly not for everyone but it showed a true return to form for me after Mank which i kinda liked but found very boring at times, even though it was without a doubt my type of film. @@SullyStreams There are quite a few reasons actually -
      1. The weight of expectation which every Fincher film carries. (Fassbender/Fincher first time together, Fincher after 3 years, Andrew Kevin Walker and Fincher together again after 28 years).
      2. Not being invested enough in any of the characters, which I easily do in Fincher movies.
