Truly a man that exemplifies the greatest generation. Winters is just…one in a billion. I would’ve been proud to serve under him. When he cracks and chokes up talking about the war I lose it.
I am a 20 year army veteran. I went into harm's way five times. From my perspective, I can only imagine how therapeutic it must have been for Maj. Winters to participate in these interviews. R.I.P., Maj. Winters. God bless you and your generation.
Respect to you and all those who have served in defence of our countries and to those who have suffered loss as a result of their service; be that physical or mental
Rest in peace major Winters, That is the best depiction that I have seen, Of what it must have been like in World War II, I know you with God now, Hopefully you are At peace.
I never served a day in my life but I tear up every time I think about these men and what they did not for us but for each other you will never see true patriotism like this ever again. I have the upmost respect for every man who did there duties thank you all.
define "greater celebrity" because if you mean celebrity in terms of level of fame, both hanks and spielberg are orders of magnitude more famous than dick winters, in america and around the world.
Just a reminder that when I served in the military, my party affiliation was never asked for, put on my dog tags, or put on those heroes tombstones at Arlington National Cemetery.
I wonder if that framed map behind him is the silk Normandy one that officers were issued before D-Day. Winters wrote that while on occupation duty, they were ordered to return the maps or be fined $75. Winters sent a note of "Nuts" to the regiment's supply officer (who was still Sobel at the time), kept the map, and didn't pay the fine.
I wonder if Major Winters met Damien Lewis, and what his views on his performance were. I think Lewis is excellent. Not too flashy, very professional, and a good relationship with the men whilst at the same time being the leader.
It was practically mandatory for the actors to meet their counter-part characters. Hanks and production wanted the actors to know who these real men were, and how best to protray them. And as we can see from the show itself, they knocked it out the park. But to answer your question, yes, most definitely Lewis and Winters met lol.
Glad to hear there are a couple of decent people in Hollywood. I thought Hanks did a very good job in Saving Pvt Ryan, which i just watched again a few weeks ago. I thought Damian Lewis was excellent in portraying Winters- a humble, moral man who was thrust into a terrible situation and had to lead men. The whole cast was great. My other favorite was Donnie Wahlberg as 1Sgt/Lt Lipton. Hard to believe it has been 20 years already.
One is an American actor, the other an American hero. No disrespect to Tom Hanks, but when sh*# hits the fan, give me the hero. We need more Winters in this world.
I agree but it takes the forethought of people like Hanks to put their story forward otherwise you wouldn’t even know who easy company were or care about their experiences
You're not wrong, but in the 40 years Tom Hanks has been in the spotlight, I've never seen anything to make me think he wasn't a good man, and I've developed the view that he's something of a national treasure.
If I’m not wrong I think he meant the visit they had to Normandy for a memorial with all the other veterans. There’s a video of it on here if you search for it. Edit: here’s the video - ruclips.net/video/5-SdQilQvEI/видео.html
I always wonder how it must be for veterans to watch a movie or mini series about their own story and to relife the war. I imagine terrible flashbacks, but they are not giving a comment on that.
@Just think Just follow the money. Somehow these ultra wealthy directors think they can support evil trash like Newsom and the far-left and come out "fresh as a rose". They're seriously lacking in morals and their ethics are to make money and have power. Their money and elitism might just keep them at the top even if the USA becomes Communist or pure Fascist.
@Just think Jesus the right is unhinged. Let us know when your hated liberal political enemies do something actually terrible, like trying to yet again take away people's rights by say, banning abortion, again.
I honestly believe, when the shit truly hits the fan, those people will present themselves. Over the pas few decades men have been conditioned to be more feminine, more compassionate, and while the latter is I think important as well, men must remain men.

Amazing to me that Hanks has produced pro-American films, because he's clearly a far-left supporter. He was given awards by the left because of his support of Obama and his trashing of Trump. He may be the best example of a stealth Hollywood propagandist we currently have. "He's a real gentleman" is probably true, as he's a great actor/director and needed to get on the good side of the people that worked for him. Same of Spielberg who directed so many subtle anti-American themed films.

One other "minor" issue of Tom Hanks holding the rights is that Mr. Hanks is so closely aligned as a marxist/leftist that hates most of the traditional American values that made our country great and led to the greatest generation decisively winning WWII. What amazing man he was so modest. 👍So much respect for all veterans.

So could I. I could do without his “interviewer” injecting his opinion of “don’t forget Hollywood is bad.”
Me to. What a man to look up to. This should be shown and taught to all American kids in school from kindergarten to 12th grade.
A lot was implied by Major Winter's closing pause.

Why call them celebrity? Just call them great soldiers and heroes as they are.
