Dont buy into this bs! Takes about a day to a day and a half for Amazon to deliver a brand new black belt straight to your doorstep!!! Why pay monthly gym fees when you can get the same thing for a one time fee of $20?!
That's one less leg for me to lock. You will probably do quite well. That's the beautiful thing about jiu jitsu. Everyone's game Is different depending on body type.
I’m exactly the same way at my school it’s about a year or so to get to blue it’s a few years to get to purple it’s a few or maybe three years to get to brown it’s a couple or three years to get to black anywhere from 8 to 10 years a couple of my purple belts have been training for five years And I only have one black belt that he trained with me for about 12 years he was off and on and that’s why he didn’t get his belt but he did train a lot and you know different guys you see him come and go I’ve had a lot of blue belts, and they don’t make it to purple I’ve had a lot of girls and they get married or they go back to school or whatever it’s not easy to get a black belt in jujitsu. It takes time effort and a lot of hard work.
forgive me Matt, but your math isn't adding up when it comes to the time to reach blue. My academy does the same thing and issues a stripe every six months, so with four stripes, that's a total of two years from each belt correct?
so we do a similar thing at our school, 6 months is considered the "normal" pace if you attend 2 classes a week. I've seen people with a grappling background or just quick learning athletes get their blue belt in about a year of consistent training (even though its not the norm). It usually evens out to a 6 month a stripe pace in blue/purple belt.
Promotion only happens if you stay at the same gym or if you're very good. Most jiu jitsu schools care so much about competition that they won't promote you unless you win 1st place at every belt. Competing requires alot of training & athleticism because you have to roll with alot of guys in your weight class. The Gracie University is better for people that want to learn jiu jitsu & get promoted without having to prove your worthy of a belt promotion just by winning tournaments. Jiu jitsu used to be just a Gracie cult but now it's a cult of egos at all jiu jitsu schools
Yea I don’t have any plans to compete and not worried about belt promotions, I just love being there to train
Same, man... I'm just enjoying the journey
Same
You make good training partners.

Plus shipping. 🙂
Do you also have a while belt wall?
I have one leg and use a prosthetic to walk but I really want to get into jiu-jitsu
Do it. In the last two tournaments I have been to, there were amputee competitors.

I trained with a guy who had both legs amputated above the knees. He has a black belt in BJJ.
